La maison de Pegomas is ideally situated to profit from all the very best Provence has to offer. Located just ten minutes walk from the beautiful St. Rémy-de-Provence and within half an hour’s reach of the towns of Avignon, Arles, and L’isle sur-la-Sorgue, to name but a few. There is a wealth of cultural and historical attractions within an easy drive. In Arles, you can see the Roman ruins, the Museum of Arles and Provence or go to the lively Saturday market.
In Avignon, there is the Palais des Papes, an important medieval gothic building, boasting one of the largest gothic fortresses in Europe.
You can take a leisurely boat ride on the canals that pass through L’isle sur-la-Sorgue, a small but vibrant town, particularly visited for its many antique shops and where you can see working water wheels throughout.
Alternatively, you may wish to sample local wines and visit Château Romanin in St. Rémy where you can enjoy a tour of their vineyards and see their cellars.
Leisure activities around the area include horseback riding tours in Egalières, or avid golfers can tee off from either the Servants, Pont Royal or Manville courses nearby. For those feeling more adventurous, hire a bike for the day and choose a challenging long distance mountain bike trail. Whether an easy or vigorous route, cycling is one of the best ways to experience the breath-taking vistas of the Provencal countryside.
For family days out with the children, there are a variety of adventures to choose from. Rent a canoe in Avignon and view its historic buildings from the river Rhône, or take the steam train of Cévennes from Anduze to Saint-Jean-du-Gard, passing through the typical landscapes of the region or spend the day at the Zoo in La Barben, where you can see a huge variety of creatures: elephants, giraffes, crocodiles, wolves and yaks.

My wife Lucie and I, are the happy owner of this great villa where we spend only a very few time each year. We are living and working in Saint Rémy, Lucie as a web marketing advisor, and me as a real estate agent specialized in seasonal rental, that is why we are taking great care of our guests ! We are very aware of suggestions to keep offering the best experience !
Julien purchased this house in 2012
Saint Rémy de Provence is THE village of the Alpilles area. Of course, others are beautiful also, and you have to visit them, but St Rémy is the most popular with lots of restaurants and shops, and even a great authentic and provencal atmosphere, little village places full of charm, and still quiet (except during wednesday morning as it is a famous and very well known provencal market).
Saint Rémy is also ideal as a basis to visit Provence, close by the TGV train station of Avignon (20 minutes) that offer direct line to Paris in 2H30, St rémy ios also 45 minutes from Marseille international airport.
The great points :
Before offering this villa for rent, we used to live in for about a complete year, and we have experienced this very quiet surrounding, while it is very clos to town. We love its garden plenty of charm and we maintain it at its best level. There is a cherry tree plenty of fruits during May-begining of June, an abricot tree for July, and a figue tree for September, as well as a vigne in September/October also !
The house is very well built with a perfect thermal insulation (double insulated walls, 30cm of glass wool over head, double glazed windows..) so we do not suffer at all from warmth. Also, there is an air conditioning system in the living room and the master bedroom for the most hard top please.
We do improve the house and its equipments all year long, and pay great attention to its maintenance. Everything is working good and we do love it very much !
Five of us stated at Julien's lovely property at the end of September for a 70th birthday celebration. The house is lovely and much thought has gone into everything to make for a trouble free and pleasant stay. The beds are all SO comfortable!
From the welcome by Laetitia who was waiting fro us to the time we left it was just a perfect place to be.....close enough to walk into the charming centre of St Remy but a very quiet, safe location for good rest at night!
We had no transport of our own but used a local taxi company suggested by Julien or the local buses to visit a few places further afield.....Avignon, Les Baux ( a visit to the amazing Cathedrale des Images set in the old Bauxite mines is a must) and Tarascon with its amazing castle and legend of the mythical beast Tarasc who was said to creep out of the Camargue and wreak havoc in days gone by!!
St Remy abounds in restaurants and cafes ( and the delicious icecream needs a mention) from which to watch the world go by over a pastis or kir and coffee and there are many narrow pedestrian streets where wandering and watching was a joy. The local market on Wednesdays is superb with a happy atmosphere.
Thank you to Julien for providing yet another bottle of 'bubbly' on Anne's birthday, such a lovely touch.
We all voted it a marvellous holiday.
Our party of six adults plus one toddler of us enjoyed a wonderful week in this property. The house is lovely and a real home from home. It is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The house and gardens are well maintained and very clean. There are three bedrooms in the main building and a further double room with a shower en suite in the annex. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a separate laundry room. We loved the outside area which was well shaded and provided a great space for outdoor dining. The garden and pool (secured by a fence) are very pretty and provided a safe space for our granddaughter to play.
Julien and Laetitia the cleaner are very helpful - nothing is too much trouble for them and they are keen to ensure your stay is a good experience.
The location of the house is perfect - being located just outside the centre of the town it is very quiet and private but it is still within easy walking distance of the centre.
The centre of St Remy is a maze of tiny streets filled with cafes, restaurants and shops.
We would definitely return - it is one of the nicest holiday houses we have stayed in.
We stayed at Maison du Pegomas for two weeks at the end of August and it was one of the most relaxing holidays I've had in years (although that might have had something to do with grandparents being on hand to babysit!) The house is great, but the garden and pool are even better and we could take full advantage of both in the 35 degree heat. Julien was always on hand to help with any queries we had and Laetitia, the housekeeper, was lovely too. Our boys (9 and 3) took full advantage of the table tennis table and headed out on the bikes a couple of times, so were kept well entertained.
St Remy is a fantastic destination - the perfect size, with a great variety of restaurants, bars and shops only a ten minute stroll away. We took daily trips to the supermarket nearby - which stocks everything you could need for a fortnight's stay - largely to stay cool in the lunchtime heat!!
Favourite day trips were to Arles, Uzes, Les-Baux-de-Provence and the Van Gogh exhibition at St-Paul-de-Mausole. The Roman settlement of Glanum is fascinating and also well worth a visit.
Unfortunately, we can't return to St Remy next year because of a scheduled trip to America, but I'm already looking at planning something for 2017!! Thanks Julien, for sharing your beautiful house - it was a really wonderful holiday.
We were 2 families staying together for a week in Julien's lovely house in Saint Remy de Provence. The house, garden and pool were all lovely. Julien was on hand and willing to meet any request, he even went out to buy a fan for the bedroom the day we arrived, due to the hot weather. It was an easy walk to the boulangerie to get breakfast and into town for dinner or shopping (don't miss the market day on Wednesdays). The supermarket had a huge selection and was only 5mins drive away. We particularly enjoyed having bikes (new condition) available and the nearby bicycle track made for fun times cycling through the town and countryside. Laetitia, the very friendly housekeeper, came to clean twice during the week, which was an added bonus. We had lovely hot weather so we very much enjoyed the pool in the afternoons after coming back from sightseeing, especially with so much to see and do in the area. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Julien's house.
Our family of 6 spent a marvelous week in this very comfortable home. The place is well equipped, well located, extremely clean
and perfectly designed for a three generational family. The pool was the perfect place to end the day before eating a dinner of local produce outside on the back terrace. An easy walk to town, we were able to enjoy all that St Remy has to offer including the Wednesday market.
The house is lovely and a real home from home ! Using the beautiful shutters ensured the house was lovely and cool inside even though hot outside. The garden and pool are very pretty and dining al fresco under the cannopy was a delight. The house is nicely decorated , comfortable and well equipped . It even has its own laundry room and a good selection of bicycles! Julien and Laetitia are very responsive and helpful . Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are keen to ensure your stay is a good experience .
