Skiing: You can ski from December to late February in the Troodos Mountain. They say you can ski in the morning and then be sunning yourself by the pool or on the beach in the afternoon. Try it!
Special interest holidays: Villa Athene is a good base from which to explore the various nature reserves and forests in Paphos. Paphos is great for bird watching, from the Villa itself you can hear and see Little Owls and other birds. In the Akamas Peninsular national reserve there is the Turtle sanctuary (at Lara) for the Loggerhead Turtle which you can visit.
We would echo all the comments on the villa - very comfortable, fully equipped and very peaceful. We felt very much at home very quickly.
This was our second visit to this villa it is well appointed with everything you need for a home from home holiday we would recommend this villa well equipped quiet area can't wait until our next visit
This is our 4th visit to a most relaxing & well laid out Villa that has everything - step straight out into your private pool and entertain with a BBQ or sit on the balcony & watch the sun go down. The view is hard to beat & even if you want to catch up on some evening TV you can get all of the main UK channels & WiFi & start watching football or soaps at 10pm. We have rented a few villas in Cyprus but this is without doubt the best & the owner has put a lot of thought into making us feel welcome & Sally is excellent at looking after anything you need. Thank you for yet another fantastic stay. Christine & Paul
This was our third visit and we noticed some additional features such as the balcony seating, new planting around the pool and new internal sofas. All welcome additions to what is an already excellent property, well kitted out. We did a few additional things such as see the sunset at Agios Georgios; it has a little harbour and great restaurant. We also ate a fish meze at Latchi, worth the journey and discovered more of Peyia. A lazy but good holiday.
This was our second visit to this holiday villa and we immediately felt relaxed in this quiet residential area. Temperatures were at a warm 31 degrees, which made it ideal for the pool but also for enjoying eating out on one of the three dining areas of the villla. We particularly like the unspoilt view across the Coral Bay and Paphos areas from this hilltop villa balcony, especially in the mornings and early evening.
The villa is very well equipped, air conditioned (which we used in the evening) and with free wi-fi; a definite bonus with a teenager who was also delighted to be able to watch her UK soaps etc on the catch up tv. We also knew where to food shop but also tried the bakery Papantoniou half way down from Peyia.
We undertook the scenic journey to the Kykkos Monastery in the Troodos Mountains, but this is not for the faint hearted. Stick to the main roads up there, as these roads are better maintained if a little busier. We could have done more sightseeing or gone to Corallia Bay for the sandy beach, but we were just chilling by the pool mainly. The new shopping centre at Kings Avenue in Paphos is worth a look but park (free) in the second basement where there is always parking and take the escalators up. There is also a small Carrefour shop there for groceries too.
All in all another restful holiday and we may well come back for a third time!
We’ve just returned from a very relaxing holiday in the lovely Villa Athene.
We found it to be to be clean, tidy and well equipped with everything and more that you might want during your stay.
Any queries were easily answered and problems solved by Sally who manages the villa and is readily available pretty much at any time.
The welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, sugar etc. was very much appreciated after our delayed flight and very late arrival.
The location was perfect for us with the villa overlooking Coral Bay and the fabulous weather rounded off a great holiday.
This was the best family holiday we have had in years! The villa was spotless and quite frankly faultless, fully equipped (I cooked most evenings) and very comfortable. Set above the main coast of Coral Bay, the area retains the charm of the Cyprus I knew about 14 years ago, without the tackiness of some of the newer resort shops. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat of the day, with lots of pool loungers and outside eating available on both levels and the air-conditioning kept us cool for sleep in the evening. Breakfast overlooking the lovely view of the coast, free-wi-fi, catch-up and English satellite tv, a dishwasher and washing machine, as well as plenty of space, means we will definitely return. The villa is peaceful and set in the slightly cooler (breeze in morning and evening) hillside and had plenty of information and maps for our self-styled tours.
You do need a car as the village is up a long hill, but parking is much easier in the car park in Peyia than on the street. The village of Peyia was charming and we found everyone to be welcoming, speak excellent English and respond very well to my three words of Greek! We enjoyed seeing the goats in the orchard below the villa every few days. If you have a Blue Badge, take it as there is disabled parking in Paphos and Peyia. The covered Municipal Market in upper Paphos is easy to find and worth a look round for souvenirs and fresh fruit/veg. Tourist Information is next to the Market and has details in German, French and English as well as some free maps. There are beaches at Pissouri, Coral Bay, Latchi and Polis, but all are a mix of sand and shingle; take beach shoes. The owners and the agent were very helpful, with directions and information, which made our trip and stay very easy.
Food is about the same price as the UK, with our favourites being at the deli counter (cheese and ham), the bakery (still warm, fresh baguettes and doughnuts) and the meat counter (Mexican marinated pork) all at Philippo’s main supermarket - I left a hand drawn map to it in the book in the villa. When we ate out, we tried the meze at the Peyia Tavern (make sure you book), and the huge hot and cold Greek buffet followed by authentic Cypriot dancing on Tuesdays at Yiannis in Kathikas (again make sure you book- both places are fully booked by the evening). Whilst very popular with the ex-pats, the Grande (behind the Jail Café in Peyia) was excellent value and a good setting for the evening.
Peyia covers a large area, from the Peyia Forest on the hills high above our villa to the sea in the south, which you can view from our balcony & from Coral Bay in the east to the Akamas Peninsula in the west. The old town with its beautiful church, the square with the fountain of Peyiotisson & old stone houses sit alongside modern facilities, including banks, small supermarkets, a green grocers, a fantastic bakery, butchers, fishmonger, pharmacy & if you really need it, a gym !
Peyia, has a large number of family run cafes & restaurants ranging from tavernas, meze houses & traditional cafes with an even bigger choice in nearby Coral Bay.
A short drive away, Paphos is a tourist destination in it’s own right with many activities & archeological sites You can take a boat trip for sightseeing or fishing or just watch the magnificent view from one of its many restaurants & bars. Golf, tennis, scuba diving, go carting, horse riding a water park & the bird & animal sanctuary are all nearby
