Beautiful house, friendly owners
We had a great holiday at Villa Ag. Georgios. The villa itself is new and spotless. The beds were hard, but comfortable. The kitchen is well supplied. Not a lot of pots and pans, but the quality is good and we cooked several meals ourselves.
The garden of the house is great. Everything is beautifully maintained and the views are amazing. We absolutely loved the pool. As the weather was cool, we had it heated and the water was about 30 degrees, so swimming was a bless.
The Margarites Villas are located very privately, so it was quiet in the gardens. You do need a car though, because the nearest village is over 2 kilometers away.
The owners are so friendly and welcoming. They welcomed us personally and provided us with a great welcoming package, including juice, milk, wine, toast en fruits. They were very accessable when we had any questions. They made us feel very much at home.
So, no critical notes at all? Well, our main issue was that the hot water in the house was exclusively solar heated. As the weather was clouded the last few days, that meant we did not have any hot water left. The owners are aware of this now and said they would try to find a solution for the future. For us, it meant we were extra happy with the hot pool...
A second concern might be that the two Margarites Villa's are very close to one another and the upper balconies look out over both pools. The other villa was not occupied when we were there, so we cannot say how much it will affect your privacy if you have neighbours, but we were glad we were alone…
All in all, despite the two (minor) critical remarks, we can definitely recommend this villa and hope to return someday ourselves!
Dear Mrs. Marianne, thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice review for our Villa and we appreciate your feedback. However, we would like to mention that the Villa provides hot water at all times, as it has a sun boiler and an electrical one as well, which our guests need to turn on when the weather is not very sunny. We are sorry to hear that you had this issue during your stay and we really wish you had asked us about it, as it was very simple. Furthermore, we would like to state that the outdoor area of each Villa, is only partially overlooked, from one of the bedroom balconies on the second floor of the other Villa. Finally, taking your feedback into consideration, our beds will have top mattresses from now on. Thanks again for being our guests and he hope to have you back again!
A stunning haven of peace and tranquility
Just returned from a wonderful two week holiday at villa Ag Georgios. The villa is finished to the highest of standards and the garden is truely spectacular. On arrival we were greeted by the owners who presented us with one of the best welcome packs we had ever had. Over the course of the holiday they continued to be attentive without being intrusive and nothing was too much trouble for them. We also enjoyed eating in the family taverna in Margarites village and were made equally welcome here.
The villa is somewhat secluded but has the most amazing views and is a perfect haven of peace and tranquility. There are plenty of places to eat within a 15minute drive and the nearest beach is the same.
We enjoyed all of the villas facilities but were bowled over by the garden and the spectacular lighting in the evening which made the whole place even more beautiful. Great to sit out, watch the sunset and then wait for the magic to happen!
If you want to get away from it all and don’t mind driving to eat out then we would highly recommend this villa.
The villa is situated in the peaceful area of Margarites village. The village of Margarites is south east from Rethymnon town in the centre of the island of Crete. Located in picturesque green rolling hills, the village is well known for its pottery and attracts many visitors in the busy season.
The tradition of pottery goes back many generations in this village and you will be able to find an elder to show you how the pots are hand thrown. The village which has some extraordinary architecture and lovely narrow winding streets is well worth exploring. There are also some Venetian doorways, Byzantine churches and plenty of traditional taverns and cafés to relax in and perhaps to try a Greek coffee. Margarites village also has some essential shops such as mini markets, taverns and a bakery.
The village of Perama which is around 4.5 km away, has bigger supermarkets, pharmacies, cafes, butcher and a fishmonger. Additionally the villa is 14 km away from Skaleta’s sandy beach and 11 km from Panormo’s sandy beach!
If you are looking for privileges that only a big city can offer, then Rethymno town is 23 km away and offers unique facilities and a wide variety of entertainment.
Finally, there are also opportunities for guests to explore surrounding areas such as historical monastery of Arkadi (20 km), Ancient Eleftherna and its museum (6 km), Melidoni or Zoniana Caves (9.8 km and 26 km) and Anogia village (32.5 km).
Furthermore due to the village location and the topography of the area, there are many beautiful hiking paths. E4 paths start from Margarites village and reach up to Ancient Eleftherna.
We will be happy to make you suggestions and directions for places which only locals know about.
