Kalix Hus is a big, family-friendly house, wonderfully situated by the sea. It faces south, has beautiful views and its own pier. Rental includes the separate guest house and this is a perfect spot for 2 families planning a holiday together. Originally built in 1750 in Kalix, in the north of Sweden, the main house was rebuilt on Ljusterö 15 years ago, with all modern comforts - the best of old and new. The deck is a fabulous suntrap. A large garden sweeps down in front of the house and there is a forest behind. An old-fashioned fence encloses the whole property, useful when there are small children and dogs. Downstairs in the main house there are two large entertaining rooms, an open fireplace and a well-equipped kitchen and a lavatory. Upstairs there is a large main bedroom, a big bathroom with a shower and washing machine, an open area and a huge bedroom which children love to pile into and share! The little house sleeps 4 in two rooms and has its own bathroom and kitchen.
The owners of Kalix Hus are English. When they lived in Stockholm they visited the house most weekends, always finding it painful to leave on a Sunday evening. Now they live back in the UK, they miss it terribly and visit whenever possible, which sadly isn't often. It is a special place, and everyone who visits has a wonderful time. We hope you do too.
We had a very pleasant stay in the house. The weather was great so we could enjoy the beautiful water and boat facilities. The house has a wonderful garden and also everything inside is well equipped and perfectly OK for the best holiday! We will definitely come back to this beautiful place.
Stockholm is a cool city with plenty to do for everyone. Only one hour drive and we are in the calming nature of the relaxing island. This is a dream come true! The house has everything. Very good kitchen equipment and outside BBQ, boat, sauna, karaoke and movies, blueberries and sunshine.
We had a wondefully relaxing week at Kalix Hus. This was our first holiday in Sweden and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The house is in the most beautiful setting wtih wonderful views and a real sense of tranquility. We enjoyed taking trips out in the rowing boat and braver members of the group enjoyed swimming and the sauna. The owners were very generous with giving advice before we set off which made us feel welcome before we even arrived. Our little boy loved the space and the toys and books provided in the house. We cooked and ate at home and enjoyed an excellent Thai takeaway on the last night.
We spend a week at Kalix Hus in July 2012 and will definitely return. The house is absolutely beautiful, perfectly equipped and extremely well looked after. All household appliances are Miele - that says a lot about the owners and their standards of quality. Also, everything inside and outside has been done with lots of attention to any little detail you might come to think of. Lots of space, lots of garden, and a beautiful jetty of which you can jump straight into the baltic sea. Katherine, the owner and Yvonne, the wonderful lady looking after the property on Ljustero are both great, always available when you need them and did everything to make our holiday perfect. We will be back!
Kalix Hus is our little bit of paradise on the east coast of the beautiful island of Ljusterö. Overlooking the Baltic Sea and only one hour's drive from central Stockholm.
We feel there is a perfect balance here. There is that wonderful feeling that you have escaped all the stresses of the world and have arrived in the middle of the Stockholm Archipelago - but modern conveniences are close by! There is an excellent grocery store 7 minutes away by car - between Kalix Hus and the ferry - which stocks anything you might be needing. There is also a post office, hair salon and gift shop at Ljusterö Square. The town of Åkersberga is only half an hour's drive away for more extensive shopping activities.
If you can bring yourself to leave the area around the house, there is our 'secret' beach (don't tell anyone) just 5 minutes cycle down the lane, or a lovely 15 minutes walk. Berries and mushrooms can be found in the forest behind the house. A nature reserve on the adjoining island of Lagnö is a delight for a change of scenery and a picnic on the rocks. There is a golf course about 5 minutes drive away and a marina where you can rent boats. Of course all the delights of Stockholm are only an hour away.
If you would like to take a more leisurely, scenic trip into Stockholm, you can take the Waxholmsbolaget boat from Linanäs pier on the western side of the island to Strömkajen in Stockholm. SL bus number 626 also goes to Ljusterö from Danderyd, on the Stockholm metro line.
