Betina is a settlement on the island of Murter, which is administratively belonging to the municipality of Tisno and is only 7 km away from Tisno (municipal center), where the mobile bridge connects the island with the mainland.
Betina was first mentioned in history in 1423 when 15 people lived in it in eight houses, suggesting an earlier settlement of the settlement. In 1597 there were 16 houses in Betina and in 1678 52 families with about 350 inhabitants. Since the mid-16th century, refugees from Vrane have settled, especially in 1573, when Vrana fell into Turkish hands. The church was built in the 15th century, and it was probably dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, because there was a monastery of the Franciscan monks in the nearby settlement, on the islet of Sustipanac, who ministered to Betina pastorally.
Most of the island was covered with olive trees and figs, so these were the main traditional farming cultures grown by the local population. Today, unfortunately, pine, macaque and low plants are prevalent. In history, it has been written that it has produced top quality wine there. In addition to farming, occupation of the population was fishing and livestock breeding.
The place is well known for its craftsmen in wood. In the mid-eighteenth century, in 1740, Betina became the first family shipyard. The first buffets were on the east coast of the place, near today's center. As the development of shipbuilding crafts developed, the scalers expanded to the northwestern part of the settlement, in the area of ??Zdrače. In 1848, it was open, at that time, a very modern shipyard, and the tradition of shipbuilding was maintained to this day, so up to 300 tonnes can be built or repaired in the shipyard at the shipyard. More recently, tourism is the most important economic branch of the site. There is also Marina Betina, which offers the possibility of developing nautical tourism.
