Close to the market

This apartment is as good as it looked in the photos. We really appreciated the garden right off the street with a great 'English' view from the window overlooking the church and nice white 19th century houses.

We were surpised at how close it was to get downtown - Soho and Kensington High Street were less than 20 minutes away. Travel was expensive until we discovered Oyster cards and we had a great time visiting Greenwich, Kew gardens and Tate Modern. Portobello market on Saturday was our favourite place to hang out.

Arriving on early morning flight meant we had to wait for the check-in time but Bella was helpful while we waited.

Both the flat and the area met our needs for a great 8 nday holiday.

A lovely stay in Notting Hill

I can't say enough good things about this Notting Hill flat. John and Karen were responsive and helpful leading up to my visit, even calling me after a HomeAway issue to make sure I knew my reservation was still on. I met Bella, their daughter, within five minutes of my arrival into the neighborhood after a quick cab ride from Paddington Station (there is also a bus from Paddington that's very easy, but as I was coming from Heathrow and had not been to London before I opted for the cab).

The flat itself was bright, clean, and a perfect home away from home. I really appreciated touches such as tea and books being available and the nice restaurant guide provided by John and Karen. I was expecting to find the flat on the small side after reading reviews about London flats in general, but it was really very spacious - I would be happy living there for quite some time! The bed was extremely comfortable, which was perfect after long days of sightseeing. Coming from the States some of the appliances were unfamiliar to me, but John and Karen provided excellent instructions on all of them.

The flat was very safe, which was important for me as a single female traveling alone - there are multiple layers of security to get into the complex, and the neighborhood itself is quite safe. Easy 10-15 minute walk to the tube, which was perfect for me, and there were buses that were even more convenient. I loved being able to wake up in the morning and stroll along Portobello Road in search of breakfast. Departure was also very easy and flexible, and my damage deposit was promptly refunded.

I would stay in this flat again in an instant and intend to do so whenever I return to London. Perfect for 1-2 people who want a quiet home base in a real neighborhood, but still extremely accessible to the highlights of London. Thank you, John and Karen!

Great flat - one caveat

The flat is just as advertised - outstanding location, excellent transportation options, plenty of restaurants and amenities in the area. The only caveat is to confirm that you are not booked in during the Notting Hill Carnival (unless that is your intent).

The perfect London base - This flat is a wonderfully comfortable and secure home away from home

This was our third stay at the Notting Hill flat. We will continue to stay here every time we holiday in London. We were fortunate to meet the owners, John & Karen on this occasion when they greeted us on our arrival. Again, the flat was spotlessly clean. There is a lovely, homely feel to the flat which is a delight to come 'home' to at the end of each busy day of exploring in London. The ground floor flat has abundant light and sun that streams in from the bay, sash window in the lounge area. The outlook over the residents-only garden is beautiful. The location is peaceful and safe. It is a 2min walk to Portobello Road, and a 10-12min walk to Notting Hill Gate tube station. The neighbourhood is full of beautiful homes, and the streets are lined with trees. There are restaurants galore in the area, and two supermarkets within 10min walk. Holland Park is a 30min walk away. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are 15-20min walk. We can not fault this flat or the location. John & Karen are superb hosts who have been extremely efficient with their communications and responses to queries. They are a delight to deal with and we are very grateful for the fantastic time we have had as repeat guests in their lovely holiday home.

Fabulous Location, Charming Apartment

Everything was exactly as advertised. The unit is small, but it had absolutely everything we needed. It is a good 12-15 minute walk to the Tube, but we were then able to readily get anywhere--Oyster card was a huge help! Portobello Rd. is awesome, and it's only two short blocks away. We discovered Mike's Cafe, which serves amazing American style pancakes with a large quantity of fresh blueberries, a welcome change of pace from the traditional English breakfast.

Just what we needed

John and Karen's flat was exactly what we needed for our ten day stay in London. The kitchen was well-equipped, the bed was comfortable, and the flat was cozy and clean. The owners made sure we had all the necessary information we needed to get to the flat from the tube, right down to telling us which door we needed to enter. Their daughter, Bella, checked in on us once we settled in, and she gave us excellent information regarding restaurants, stores, and how some of the appliances worked. The private front garden was a lovely bonus.

We also thoroughly enjoyed the neighborhood. As two women travelling (and American) we are always concerned about safety, particularly at night. We felt completely at ease and safe even on the odd night when we were walking home from Notting Hill Gate tube station at 11 PM. Having the market and the shops (including Sainsburys and Tesco) within walking distance was a great help since we were eating breakfasts and some dinners at the flat.

There are two tube stations that were the most convenient to use - Westbourne Park and Notting Hill. We found that we only used Westbourne Park when traveling to and from Paddington. The rest of the time we were walking to Notting Hill Gate to catch the District, Circle, or Central line from there. The walk generally took us about 15 minutes since I'm a slower walker, but we found that we saved some time by not going down Portobello Road, and using a parallel road (Colville Road), which changes names a few times before reaching Pembridge Road where the tube station is. One note about Westbourne Park: if you do come from Paddington to Westbourne Park there are no lifts at this station, just stairs, so you will have to get your luggage up and down them in order to get to the platform.

If there was anything we could change about the flat - yes, as has been mentioned, the sofa is not the most comfortable, but it was serviceable. The other thing is that the bed is against the wall, so whoever draws the short straw has to sleep on the inside. Overall, however, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this flat to anyone looking for a nice home away from home while in London.

Excellent value for money.

We have stayed in this apartment for 3 years running and find it is perfect for our needs. Well equipped kitchen, good heating, clean and tidy. Owners are easy to deal with and very supportive. Would certainly recommend this property to anyone, as being a ground floor apartment with only a few steps to approach the front door.

Few minutes walk to Portobello Road where there are supermarkets, butchers, bakeries for all your self-catering requirements. Great street market Friday and Saturday.

Just off the famous Portobello Rd and situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in the heart of Notting Hill, this bright flat in a 19th Century mansion block is a perfect location from which to explore London. Its leafy, gated garden provides a pleasant and secure setting for your stay in London. A ten minute tube journey from Notting Hill tube will take you to the heart of the city with art galleries, West End theatres and the River Thames. You are just 5 minutes from Paddington Station and the express train from there to Heathrow Airport.

There are 3 cinemas close by including the famous Electric Cinema, many great bars, cafés and restaurants. The famous Michelin starred ' Ledbury' with its fabulous set lunch is just a block away. There are excellent clothes shops in Westbourne Grove (2 mins walk), one fascinating mile of antique shops on your doorstep, and delicious patisseries and deli such as Ottolengi (3 mins). Just along the road are the famous music shops of Honest John's Records and Rough Trade. In addition, the elegant tree-lined residential architecture of Notting Hill makes this a very pleasant area to see on foot, as you walk towards Hyde park or Holland Park, or down Kensington High Street. Knightsbridge and Harrods are just a short bus-ride away, as are the V & A and the Science and Natural History Museums

This is a fascinating and vibrant neighbourhood. There is a great sense of community and there are many families with young children around. The owner has run a music business in the area since 1974. He knows Notting Hill and its people well and will be happy to give you more information on where to go and what to see.
