Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday bungalow in Trevone - Crisalgo

Self Catering, in quiet cul-de-sac with plenty of parking.

Crisalgo is situated in the village of Trevone one and a half miles from Padstow. Trevone has two fabulous beaches, a sandy beach for swimming and surfing and a rocky beach with hundreds of rock pools to explore for marine life at low tide.

Trevone caters for visitors who enjoy the sea and countryside. It lies in an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers delightful walks along the coastline and inland. We have a beach and surf shop, farm shop and beach cafe. Tesco has a store situated just outside Padstow.

Padstow offers a wide range of shops and amenities including sailing, fishing trips and some excellent restaurants including Rick Stein's famous seafood restaurant and recently opened fish and chip shop on the quay.

About Joan Boon

Joan & Robin Boon live in Cornwall. Not too far from Crisalgo.

Robin's family have been connected with Trevone, Padstow and Crugmeer for many generations and therefore the area is very special to him.

Why Joan Boon chose North Cornwall

Crisalgo was passed to Robin in 2004. Robin and Joan then re-furbished the bungalow to use for themselves, family and friends and also for holiday letting.

What makes this bungalow unique

Crisalgo is ideally situated with sea views, plenty of parking and an interior that is suited to family holidays. We feel very fortunate to be able to spend time here ourselves.

Crisalgo - exceptional holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

Crisalgo is a superbly comfortable holiday home. I have stayed there three times now and cannot recommend it highly enough. The tasteful blend of old and new furnishings gives the bungalow an air of quality. The kitchen area is spacious and well-equipped and the owner kindly provided several food items, including a delicious home-made lemon cake! The bathroom and bedrooms are aso of an excellent standard.

Although the location is quiet, it provides easy access to the North Cornwall area - and within a few minutes you can be walking along the cliffs or enjoying Trevone Bay.

I'm very much looking forward to staying at Crisalgo again sometime in the future.

You must stay here!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third time staying at 'Crisalgo' so as you can probably appreciate, we like the place....a lot! Always immaculately presented by the meticulous and thoughtful owners, clean and very well equipped. You will want for nothing.

Trevone is a lovely location and this bungalow is very well situated in a quiet lane within a five minute walk to the award winning, life guard patrolled beach (use the path to the right of the Well Parc pub). Sleeps six in comfort with a pull-out bed in the smaller bedroom. Well laid out with an open plan arrangement for lounge/kitchen/dining area.

Padstow and Tesco supermarket within a five minute drive although supplies are available from the surf store or farm shop (two minutes walk).

August 2015.

If you want to stay in North Cornwall, stay at 'Crisalgo', I promise you will not be disappointed.

PS My profile pictures shows a view of the stunning beach in Trevone.

Well located and equipped - ideal for family

  • 5 of 5

We stumbled across Crisalgo when looking for a reasonably priced property within walking distance of the beach somewhere near Padstow. Booking in March meant there was not much availability for the summer holidays other than Crisalgo however when we arrived we were more than happy with what we had got.

The house is well set up with the main room being open plan with a modern kitchen, dining area and sitting room meaning that no one misses any action. The room has excellent sea views from the large windows. The beds were all comfortable with linen provided and beds made up. The house is on a dead end road with minimal traffic.

The beach is a 10 minute walk with small kids (5 mins as a marching adult!). We walked through the Well Parc grounds so as to avoid the busy road down to the beach. The beach itself was ideal for our 4 and 6 year old boys with the benefit of a tidal pool having been formed at high tide which was shallow and safe for the kids to play in (can't guarantee this is a regular feature - it depends on how the sea is feeling).

The waves weren't too fierce meaning the kids could play in the waves as well (benefit of a life guard service as well). There is also the rocky beach with the tidal swimming pool and rock pooling possibilities meaning plenty to do.

Padstow is 2 miles away with Newquay 30 mins away as well.

Overall we were very pleased with our find and have already reserved for next year. The owners were great and met us to show us around the house and hand the keys over. They provided basic provisions, a large lemon drizzle cake, croissants, bottle of wine and cereals as a welcome which was really appreciated.

In summary, highly recommended for families or just adults and thanks for our time this year and we'll see you next year!

Well located, well kept, great for families

  • 5 of 5

We have already booked to go back to Crisalgo next Summer. Lovely house, great location.

We have boys, 4 and 6. They had plenty of room to avalanche their toys in the lounge if it rained (Though luckily it didn't). The layout is very practical, very spacious by the standard of holiday cottages, especially looking at value for money in the school holidays. The kitchen is well set out and has 3 or 4 work surfaces depending on how you use it (Important to us as we deal with some allergies, so we needed somewhere we could keep separate to prepare certain food). It's very easy to keep clean without worrying about wasting time while on holiday. The wide open glass across the front of the house makes for a beautifully lit lounge.

The garden is big enough to play in, the shed is very handy, and there is a hose which stretches into the garden, so it's straightforward to clean your wetsuits and store boards etc. The driveway fits a 4x4 and we had 3 guests so 3 cars on it at one point without any problems.

The street is quiet, with nice views between and above the houses of the sea and easy to drive down. For people visiting in August, important to note that the turn off is just above the point in the village where you risk being in a queue of giant Volvos waiting to get where you are going, so you don't risk scratching the side of the car every time you set off anywhere...

Trevone itself is the best beach we found for our kids - and while it's fun to drive to other beaches for a change, you cannot beat having a 5 minute stroll, and being straight by the beach, the surf and the rock pools. The farm shop in Trevone is 3 minutes away in case you fancy a croissant when you get up. The cafe and the surf shop by the beach are very fairly priced - twice they downsold us to cheaper stuff in the surf shop if they thought we were spending more than we needed to for occasional playing in the waves.

Rick Stein's pub (The Cornish Arms) is about 5 mins away (turn right as you leave Padstow and drive straight) and does a mean pint of prawns as well as more substantial meals. And Padstow within easy reach.

So, in all, we love Crisalgo - - it's a warm cheerful house to come back to after a day out, a day on the beach, or after a meal, and it's a great place to wake up and plan your day. Thank you Joan and family :)

Half term June family holiday in Trevone

  • 4 of 5

This was a great bungalow, and I am in two minds about even writing a review to be honest, as I don't want it to get booked up when we want to return!

We went for June half term with our two boys aged 4 and 7. The layout was great. There is a hallway with a separate loo near the front door, and then one very large room which is split into a lovely, very well stocked, modern kitchen, a large dining area and a lounge/TV area. The layout works brilliantly for a young family, There are double doors through to a small internal hallway and there are three bedrooms leading off it, plus a clean, modern, comfortable bathroom. The double bed in the first bedroom was very comfy, and then there was a twin bedded room and another smaller bedroom which had a single bed with trundle bed underneath. All were beautifully clean, with comfy beds and great storage. The only slight issue we had was with the light curtains not blocking out enough light, but that's the only slight gripe we had with the whole place, and certainly wouldnt stop us returning.

There is a large private drive, and the cottage is situated up a private quiet road. The garden is big enough for the kids to play hide and seek and run around in. There is a pub at the end of the road (2mins stagger at most), and they let people use their pathway which cuts out the walk through the winding country lanes down to the beach. Instead, it's a 10 minute walk with boys stopping and looking at everything en route, or a 5 minute walk unhindered!

We love Trevone beach, it has easy access and a good little shop, cafe and toilets. The waves are good and the water quality is high, plus there is a lifeguard on duty. Its a 10 minute drive to Padstow, where parking is a bit of a nightmare, but it's a lovely little harbour town to visit. We had a few glorious sunny days, but then had bad weather (gales, storms and freezing!) but we were warm as toast with the heating on, and taught our sons how to play monopoly and scrabble from the well stocked games cupboard!

The cottage particulars we read on this site are accurate. The owners were extremely helpful, and left us a lovely welcome pack, including wine and a homemade lemon cake, which was much appreciated after a hellish trip from Manchester in the Diamond Jubilee M5 traffic jam!

All in all, we strongly recommend this bungalow but strictly on the basis that nobody else pinches the weeks that we want to go back there! Thank you for a lovely holiday Crisalgo

Great Location, Fantastic Accomodations

  • 5 of 5

Our family absolutely loved staying here. The house was in a great location, just a few minutes away from the beach and was very well equipped.

In a nutshell: owners were very friendly and provided a delicious cake and some food essentials; beds were comfortable; there was a nice garden in the back; the kitchen had everything you could ask for (including plastic dishes for the kids); new LCD TV is great for rainy days or quiet evenings (has HDMI, perfect for laptop or game system hook-up); house was immaculate; and furniture was in great condition and very comfortable.

We highly recommend staying here if you have kids. We had 3 adults and 3 children (1, 4, and 7) and there was plenty of room. There was also a kid-friendly pub just a two-minute walk down the lane (great selection of ales for the parents, too).

The only thing lacking was heavy drapes or shades for the bedrooms - the rooms were pretty bright very early in the morning. Fortunately everyone was worn out from the long hours at the beach and trips to surrounding areas. You'll definitely want a car as well, as the only decent grocery is about a 5 minute drive away in Padstow.

Overall, this is one of the best properties we've stayed at in the UK and would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends.
