soggiorno a chia
The ancient village of Chia, an important Phoenician center and then Roman with the name of Bithia, was located in a small bay where today there is one of the many coastal towers in the seventeenth century built by the Crown of Spain against the raids of barbaric pirates. Among the ruins brought to light following a storm, there are the remains of a Punic tophet and the ancient road that linked it to the important city of Nora. Today it is a destination for trekking and mountain biking enthusiasts who can walk along the dirt road that runs along the old road, enjoying particularly fascinating corners of the coast.
From the tower, which dominates the coast, you access a long tongue of sand interspersed with small coves framed by thick vegetation and lapped by an emerald green sea, a true spectacle of nature that remains etched forever in the heart of any visitor .
Going along the coast to the west, you will cross the beaches of Sa Tuerra, Porto Campana, Spiaggia de su Sali, and Su Giudeu, the most beautiful of them all. Also called Spiaggia de s'Abba Durci (fresh water beach), is a long stretch of white sand surrounded by high dunes covered with ancient junipers, which with their shapes create a particularly evocative landscape.
On the back of this stretch of coastline is the Spartivento pond, a precious natural oasis habitat of many animal species. In front of the Su Giudeu beach, a short distance from the shore, there is a small island easily reachable thanks to the shallow sea that separates it from the mainland. Due to its special charm, this beach is often chosen as a natural setting for films and TV spots.
In the most western part of this stretch of coast is the Cala Cipolla beach. Reachable only on foot, it extends into a small sheltered inlet and enclosed by a rocky promontory that separates it from the wider coastline. From Cala Cipolla a panoramic path leads to the Capo Spartivento lighthouse, from whose summit it dominates the entire southern coast of the Sulcis.
Thanks to their shallow waters, all the beaches of the Chia coast, are particularly popular with families with children and fans of underwater fishing and diving. Often beaten by the mistral wind, Chia is also an ideal destination for surfers who can perform spectacular acrobatics. Rich in tourist services, these beaches are accessible to the disabled and have ample parking.
