Or you can stroll the beach just 300 yards to the Hanalei Colony Resort, for the only (award winning) restaurant and coffee house on this part of the island. Or just take our beach chairs and head the few steps to the beach out front!

About Katie Howland

About the owners Doug, Bev, Miranda, and Katie Howland: Doug and Bev were first drawn to Kauai in the early 80’s, after many visits they finally decided to buy this wonderful property in 2006. Doug, a 35-year designer/builder, has spent the last 10 years personalizing the house. Bev, a jack-of-all-trades, has owned a health food store, opened a charter elementary school, run a motel, and managed their various properties over the years. Their youngest daughter Katie lives in Portland with her older sister Miranda. After a career in the arts, she now manages the family’s properties. Doug and Beverly now migrate between their properties in Arizona, Utah, and Hawaii. They like to hike, horseback ride, ski, practice yoga, whitewater raft, dance, and travel in their free time.

They also have vacation rentals in the Escalante Canyons of Southern Utah and in the town of Sedona in Northern Arizona.

Katie Howland purchased this house in 2006

Why Katie Howland chose Kauai

Doug and Bev were always drawn to the North Shore, when making the decision to put down roots, they couldn’t resist the best part of the island. They fell in love with the unique beauty of their home that balances both accessibility and seclusion.

What makes this house unique

There are many amazing natural wonders right out the front door (see above). This home offers the lush mountainous jungle of Kauai out the back door and the soothing beach and ocean out the front door.

Lovely Kauai Beach Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had four couples stay at Hale Aloha. We loved the isolated location, the beautiful home, the ocean view, the lush setting, and the peaceful nature of our surroundings. We appreciated the well stocked home including everything we needed for trips to the beach. We had a lovely time and would love to return again.

Incredible experience in Kauai - Haena

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay.

We were a family of 6 adults and one 3 years old boy.

The house is beautiful and had a lot of character, was clean and well furnished. And was in good shape. For the foodies it has a great kitchen opening on the dining and the living space (under an high ceiling)

Nice view on the beach so you could hear the constant sound of the waves. No bothered at all by the crowing of the roosters.

Well located: close to beaches (where monk seal would come to rest during the day), close to shopping (20' drive) and easy to get to other places on the island (knowing that you are up North of the Island).

For jogging you could run from the house up to Kee's beach (3 miles total) early morning to avoid traffic.

We would recommend the helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian..and buy your organic food at Hanalei Harvest Market.

Everything went incredibly easy with booking, communication, and check in.

Thanks Katie.

We can't wait to return!

The Perfect Family Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with our adult children and partners (and our three month old grandson!), stayed in this lovely home for a week and loved everything about it. The home is clean and spacious, with a fantastic kitchen and common area. The beds were comfortable and the furnishings really suited the environment. Everyone loved the outdoor shower and the lanai, which is AMAZING--ocean views, private, sheltered, and spacious. Close to beautiful beaches, and about a ten minute drive to Hanalei. Everything went incredibly smoothly with booking, communication, and check in. We can't wait to return!

Perfect Hale Beach Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time ever to Hawaii and we picked Kauai and the Hale Beach Home and did we ever make a wonderful decision. The home is beautiful from the clean house to the wonderful sound of the ocean seconds away. Our family of 6 adults stayed there and it was perfect tons of room. I would highly recommend this house to rent.

Perfect Vacation Home in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I can't express how much we enjoyed staying at Hale Aloha! Since the house was unavailable for the first two weeks in July, we rented a house in Hanalei. I've only stayed in Haena for the past 35 years so it was a good chance to see how we liked staying in Hanalei. The answer is, we didn't! It was crowded and very noisy with many of the surrounding houses doing construction of one kind or another. I'm not exaggerating when I say we shed all of our stress the moment we arrived in Haena and Hale Aloha. The adults rejuvenated and the kids thrived for the next two weeks in this beautiful home and idyllic setting. It was another magical stay for us!! We can't wait to return next year and stay for four weeks!

Great Time at the Beach House

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly wonderful home with 5-star location in Hanae on the breathtaking North Shore. 8 adults plus a baby (none of whom had ever been to Kauai) made this our holiday home for 10 days just before Christmas, having to say "aloha" Jan. 2. By utilizing the fully functional lanai, we had plenty of space. Needing a baby gate (to prevent a tumble down the stairs) and a high chair were no obstacles whatsoever for Beverly...they were both there awaiting us upon our arrival. Even a new-out-of-the box flat screen TV had just been installed. Satellite service enabled us to view all the football bowl games we cared to watch, and the internet connection was rock-solid. The 4 ample bedrooms in the home are most inviting, with tasteful decor throughout. The fresh-air shower was a HUGE hit with all. [There is a second one on the lanai's back deck.] At the other end of the spectrum is a whirlpool spa tub in the Master Suite on the lower level. Not that one would, but if you were to fall off the front porch (a perfect place for evening card games and happy hour), it's only a hop, skip and jump to the beach. In December, surf is up...so you hear that wonderful sound 24/7. Hanalei is only a short drive...and offers shops, dining and farmer markets. Heading the other direction, one can very conveniently arrive at a local Mediterranean restaurant/coffee house, Tunnels Beach, Limahuli Garden & Preserve, and Haena State Park at the north end of the dramatic Napali coast...a hiker's or camper's 6-star destination. Golf, snorkeling, kayaking...literally, any activity offered on Kauai...is within reach.

A truly unique property for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
