It is integrated in a house where you can stroll through the garden with palm trees and typical Madeira (dragon trees, sicas, holly, estrelícias, etc..), With private gazebo. You can enjoy the outdoor barbecue.
It has one bedroom with double bed. Bathroom with shower. Living room (equipped with a sofa that includes two single beds) with Cable TV, sound system and internet. Fully equipped kitchen, built in the room.

We arrived on the island late at night rather than early evening, due to an Easyjet diversion to Portugal to fix some dodgy hydraulics(!), but Jorge and Paula came and picked us up from the airport and made us feel very welcome. When we got to the appartment there was fresh bread and home-made soup which was exactly what we wanted. There was also a well-stocked wine rack with prices on the bottles (the same as the local supermarket) that we just kept a note of and paid at the end, which we thought was a really good idea.
The appartment itself is very comfortable for 2 people and the view from the balcony is brilliant. We also hired a car from Jorge as it was quite important for us to see as much of the island as possible. All the roads are very steep and it can take quite a while to get anywhere but it's very scenic and worth the effort. We did a spectacular walk from Pico Alteo to the top of Pico Ruivo, the highest mountain on the island, using a route carved out of the rocks, with steps and tunnels in some parts. It's worth taking a torch for the tunnels but apart from that it's accessible to anyone and the round trip takes 5 to 6 hours.
Jorge offered to take us on his boat but we prefer walking so we declined. Jorge and Paula are perfect hosts and I would highly recommend this property if you are thinking of staying in Madeira.
When we booked our vacation, we took our decision partly based on the previous comments, so when we arrived, we were glad to see that the apartment fitted the descriptions exactly: the great view over the mountains and the city of Machico, the quiet of the place, and also, the tight curve to the parking lot, which requires some precision, and preferably a small car…
Jorge, Paula, and their daughter Rita made us feel immediately very welcome. They invited us for a meal, and even a boat trip along the Funchal coast, which we really appreciated. Jorge made us discover a delicious fruit we had never tasted before, the ‘anona’ – by the way Jorge, those that we brought back home were just ripe when we arrived. Thanks!
The apartment itself had all the required amenities for a good holiday away from the February cold, and is well situated, within easy driving distance of Funchal and virtually all the island. Although it is only a few minutes’ drive from the airport, there is no traffic noise at all.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Madeira, and will definitely pay another visit to Casa da Adega if we return to the island. Thanks Jorge, Paula, and Rita for your kindness, and for a wonderful holiday.
We had a wonderful time staying at this pleasant appartment which has superb views of Machico and surrounding hills.
We were made very welcome by Jorge and Paula throughout the stay and we were introduced to their friends. This included a meal with Paula, Jorge and friends and a trip on the family boat.
They were very helpful, ensuring that we got to and from the airport safely. The appartment was comfortable and had all facilities we needed.
We met their friend Lily who runs an excellent local restaurant which we highly recommend.
We highly recommend this appartment for a holiday, particularly given the welcome you will receive from Jorge and Paula.
As the roads in Madeira, including the road to the appartment, are steep with tight corners, we suggest you hire a small car if driving in Madeira. That said we really benefitted from having a car to explore this picturesque island.
Plenty to do, including swimming in the sea from Machico beach, exploring the mountains and valleys of the interior, taking a boat trip to Porto Santo with it's beautiful beach.
We went whale and dolphin watching from Funchal. If interested we recommend you use the company Rota des Cetaceaus - We sore pilot whales and bottle nosed dolphins close up. Good idea to take an under water camera.
Thanks again to Jorge and Paula for a wonderful holiday.

From the point in time from when we were picked up at the airport until the time we were dropped off at the check-in must be one of the most memorable vacations we have ever had. Georg, Paula and their daughter Rita made every effort on their part to make our 12 day vacation on Madeira perfect. The apartment is new, with a great layout and a balcony that I think we spent more time on than in the apartment itself. (because of the views of course!) The views to the Isla Desertas, the town of Machico and to the mountains are spectacular. The apartment is very private, quiet and situated high over Machico. You have sunshine all day and when the clouds roll in over the northern and eastern mountains the views are mystifying.
We had the pleasure of being invited for dinner and the whole family pitched in to make us a truly wonderful meal with fresh fruits from their own garden, fresh grown produce from the farmers of the area, and to top things off… Georg cooked us a BBQ with skewers of regional beef over a wood fire. It is a specialty of the island and is called Espetada.
We were also invited for an evening boat trip on the families sailboat. We spent a few wonderful hours on a mooring and and swimming in the open Atlantic before heading back to the harbour. Fantastic!
If 5 stars is as good as it gets, then they deserve 6! Thanks again to Georg, Paula and Rita for making it a vacation to remember for a life time. We will be back!
It is impossible not to rate the staying and the experience spent in Casa de Adega as one of the best holyday ever spent.
We consider it as the ideal holyday: in a very uncontaminated and fascinating place, surrounded by typical way life. You feel far from the stress of the city and full of kind and smiling persons, which can genuinely dedicate to you their best endeavours to make you enjoy the experience.
The owners Paula, Jeorge and Rita are outstanding delightful people, which are authentically helpful and available to make the time spent there unforgivable.
There will not be enough word to thank them for the exclusive service provided. As there will be not enough word to describe the beauty of the apartment. In fact the flat is a dream, cleaned, cosy and luminous, with everything you need for spending there all the time you want, with a delicious terrace. It is immerged in a peaceful and relaxing countryside scenario.
The boat trip is another extraordinary experience, overlooking Funchal cost and tasting Jorge exquisite sandwiches.
Really the best place to discover a dream island and experience a real typical and unique way of life. It was tearing apart to leave.
The holyday in Casa da Adega will remain impressed in our mind forever!!! Impossible not to recommend it to everybody (even if, from the other side, we would like to keep secret the “jewel” we found).
Many thanks Paula, Jeorge and Rita.
We would like to share our very good experience during our stay in Casa Da Adega in April
Arriving in the Airport, the family was waiting to guide us to the house. The house is build into the mountainside at the end of a road with the windows facing east.
The flat was located below the main house, and was nice and clean decorated with fresh flowers from the garden, and we got a glass of Madeira wine as welcome drink. In the middle of the living room, a big window with a balcony opened for the most fantastic view of the Machico valley and the Atlantic sea.
Although there were only 10 minutes drive from the airport, the surroundings were absolutely silent with only country animals heard in the distance.
The flat is ideal for two persons, but additional sleeping arrangement is possible in the living room. The flat requires artificial heat during winter due to less sun, but it will be nice cool in the hot summer. The private parking is a bit difficult to access, and bigger cars will have to be parked on the road.
We were also offered a trip with the family boat, overlooking the Funchal costal area. It was a great experience to see the island from that angle.
The family recommended us to visit the restaurant Lily’s in walking distance from the house. This was a fantastic experience – A restaurant in the middle of the country where the quality of the food, the wines, and the service was comparable with some of the best restaurants on the island – And at a reasonable price!
We would like to thank the entire family for their great effort to make our stay a success, and will give the arrangement our best recommendations.
