Great Cottage in Portreath - Over the Sea
Excellent location in Portreath, it was my first time here and the owners were very friendly and helpful during my stay.
Lovely Property with perfect location
Lovely property in a perfect location (2 min walk to beach). Drive to property is along a narrow road but easily doable.
Property was perfect for us and our 2 children (9 & 3). Plenty of space and well maintained. It had everything we needed for our stay.
The owners were lovely too - very friendly and welcoming.
Would definitely recommend and will be booking again the future.
Idealy situated for the two of us and adequate for our needs.
A narrow road from Portreath but you get used to it! Steps up to the bungalow would be a problem for less mobile guests but allows good views across the bay. The coastal path is next to the property and provides good walks. The beach is about 50 metres from your door and you can walk easily to Portreath when the tide allows. It is easy to imagine Poldark striding across it. James and Janet were always available and helpful. Janet told us about the Food Festival in Truro which we went to and spent the morning going round the various stalls. Porttreath is not your quaint Cornish village with narrow streets but has a small 70s type estate just behind the beach. There are plenty of eating places such as cafes and pubs. The Portreath Bakery is definitely worth a visit. We did spend a lot of time walking around the beach and harbour and along the coast. We also went to the Eden Project somewhere we had said we would go to for years. We both enjoyed our stay and would certainly return.
Very pleasant family bungalow
Nice bungalow in a great location very close to beach. Comfortable for two adults and two kids. Having Sky and fast broadband was a bonus. Would highly recommend.
Great little bungalow
The bungalow was clean and tidy. There are a lots of steps up to the property, but not a problem for us. It was perfect for us, we were visiting family who lived locally and convenient for our stay. WiFi was quick and free. The beach is 2 minute walk away and you can see the sea from the bungalow.
The reason I did not give it a five star where just little things, the knives in the kitchen were blunt so chopping food was a real task and time consuming and the mattress on one of the bunk beds was very uncomfortable. Otherwise I would recommend as a place to anyone. Four people I would say is the max as it is small. We were two adults and a 3 year old so perfect.
Not up to expectations
Pros: Great location, well equipped kitchen, good sky tv and wifi, good customer service
Cons: Narrow lane access, small lounge and bedrooms, tired, bedroom furniture falling to bit, old faded bedding, no pressure on small shower.
Not suitable for 5 adults. All in all needs a new upgrade to meet customer expectations
Very good nearby activities, can recommend the Portreath Arms and the Bassett Arms.
We are pleased you enjoyed the location, sky TV etc. and we are very sorry that you were disappointed with aspects of the accommodation. We are replacing the bedroom furniture for next season - bed mattress was brand new anyway. The size of the accommodation is as described on the listing ('comfortable for 4') with photos to make it all clear - also even more detail on our own website. The main house at the same location was available if you required something more spacious. (The Bungalow in September was just £350 per week!)
Portreath nestles in a valley between high cliffs with a secluded sandy beach which is ideal for the family.
The beach is clean and safe for children as well as providing good surfing for those who do not want to travel elsewhere. Surf lessons available in Portreath from West Cornwall Adventure Surfing. Experienced surfers will enjoy the challenge of the harbour wall
The village has a friendly atmosphere and caters for most needs of visitors whether holidaying in the area or touring whilst based in the village. The village has 3 pubs, with many more within a few miles.
It is within a 40-minute drive of the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Maritime Museum, many surf beaches, golf clubs.
For the holiday-maker who prefers to keep to the local area, there are many facilities to enjoy including the beautiful beach for swimming, surfing and windsurfing, fishing, the National Trust coastal footpath with unsurpassed, breathtaking scenery and inland wooded and parkland walks where wild flowers and many species of birds abound.
