Positives: Property spacious and in good location. Owner organised babysitting and cleaning service for us.
Negatives: on our arrival owner made us feel very unwelcome. She nervously followed us around the property informing us that it was unsuitable for children. (She had known about the age of our children when we booked, three months earlier). Her house is indeed full of precariously placed ornaments and artefacts -there are so many, that there was little room for our clothes. She informed us that in France children are not at the centre of everything (unlike Britain). She loudly questioned why she had not asked us for a deposit when our children were sure to break things. She showed us numerous items in the apartment that we 'could not under any circumstances' touch (including the sitting room table and sofa chair). She made us very unwelcome and stayed in the apartment for ages apparently unwilling to leave it in our hands. She then asked me to pay her in cash for our stay rather than via the website. When I refused, she said she would not leave the apartment until I paid as I clearly had no intention of paying. (I had already paid for 1/3 stay upon booking) The website allows for the remainder of the payment to be made anytime on day of arrival. I felt intimidated and worried I'd be homeless with my 3 children so did make payment on line in front of her. She then very quickly left.
Needless to say nothing in her property was broken. We have stayed in hotels and rentals across the world and never experienced treatment like this. Our children are well behaved and we are professionals. It was a very upsetting start to our holiday.
If the lady wants to rent her home she should specify the age range of children allowed and move out of the way some of the numerous artefacts. (They are in every cupboard and on every shelf).
In addition there are 2 double beds in the property (nothing else) both are thin and low to the ground and my husband and I tried both beds, but slept exceedingly badly on both. I experienced very bad back pain.
We love Paris and love Montmartre but this was a bad experience.
The location was ideal as it was close to three Metro stations and being in Montmartre it was a relative short walk to Sacre Coeur Basilica for a fantastic view of Paris. Near by Rue Lepic and Rue des Abbesses was full of life with many cafe's and shops. The apartment was well furnished and equipped, the only issue we had was the operation of some of the appliances as they were unfamiliar to us (being from America) so it was difficult for us to figure out how to operate the microwave and washing machine, it would have been nice to have instructions in English. The apartment was well prepared for our arrival and since the the previous guest left a day early, informed us we could occupy the apartment early the day we arrived which we did do. I would recommend this property for anyone who would like to be in a friendly neighborhood with charm.
We had a lovely stay in the montmartre apartment. It is more spacious than the photos indicate, very well maintained, beautifully decorated and clean. It was better appointed than other apartments we have rented (dishwasher, kitchen range, microwave, laundry). A great location. Really lovely with all the french doors open-- looks out on a quiet courtyard in the back. we ate all our meals on the balcony. We also had nice interactions with the Zanas to check in and out. We will definitely try to stay here again!!
Had a wonderful stay in this apartment. It's in a very nice, secure building with elevator in a great neighborhood. The apartment is decorated wonderfully and is HUGE. Everything was as advertised and more. For me, the best part was having a balcony in both the front and the back of the building. The front provides a classic Paris street scene where you can enjoy your wine and watch the mopeds and pedestrians go by (It was fun to stand on my balcony and chuckle at the poor saps in the Holiday Inn across the street paying twice as much for not even 10% of what I was staying in). The back is a quiet oasis (except when school recess is out next door) where you can sip your morning coffee or take in your dinner over a serene garden. Open the doors on both sides and a fantastic breeze blows through. The apartment has two bedrooms and two baths (kind of-- as mentioned in another review, one bath has a toilet and shower and the other is a sink and tub. It's a little odd to go to the toilet and then move to the next room to wash your hands, but that's not really a big deal when you consider how great this place is). The kitchen is well-equipped and we used it several times to cook meals. The neighborhood is fantastic, with grocery stores, restaurants, etc. nearby and a nice little walk up to the Sacre Cour, which we did every night, just to people watch, grab some crepes and watch the sun set and the Eiffel tower light up from the top of the hill. Felt very safe walking around and it was only a short walk to the Metro and even a shorter walk to the bus.
The kids really liked the large aquarium set up in the living room. It's a well done salt aquarium with corals, fish and other critters, which we sat and watched for quite a while. The pictures really don't do this place justice.
Corinne was a very accommodating host and took care of everything we needed either herself or via her two adult children who live nearby.
Highly recommended. Do yourself a favor and book this place before it's gone and don't give it another thought!
Very spacious apartment located in wonderful Montmartre. There is no better neighborhood to experience the real Paris and the flat is within walking distance to Sacré-Cœur, metro stations, bakeries, supermarkets, cafes, and Moulin Rouge. The owner Corinne graciously agreed to accommodate our party of 4 adults and 3 kids in spite of the apartment being listed for 5 persons; but the place is so big and well equipped that we had a very pleasant stay. I highly recommend this apartment and hope it is available whenever I decide to come back to this beautiful city.
