Perfect stay in the meadow retreat
We were delighted with the facilities and surprised how spacious the accomodation was. To say there is a private garden is an understatement. The meadow stretches out in front of the property with lovely views of wooded hillsides. You could feel as if you were the only people there, but Nick and Jenny know how to make you feel very welcome. There are lots of places nearby to visit and a supermarket in Quissac is only 5 minutes drive away. The Ancient Gare restaurant is superb. I have recommended this gite to family and friends. We are going again this year for 3 weeks!

Tranquil...but lots to do...perfect!
Our family (inc 2 teenage boys) stayed at this lovely peaceful gite in the foothills of the beautiful Cevennes for 2 weeks in the school summer holidays and we all loved it. Nick and Jenny made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived and we saw them most days around their lovely large pool where we also made friends with the other guests. Our gite was clean and had everything we needed including private garden with hammock, BBQ, and also there's fast wifi! The property has three other gites but there's plenty of privacy. Nearest supermarket is a 3 min drive or you can walk the 20 mins along the lane and river to historic Sauve where there are local shops, cafes and some good restaurants, there's also a local excellent restaurant which is only 5 mins walk. Loads to do in the surrounding area: Sauve itself is worth a good walk around with its medieval streets and strange rock formations above the town. Day trips included fantastic canoeing in the hills, Nimes with its perfectly preserved roman temple and amphitheatre, the Camargue national park with its flamingos and great beaches and the medieval walled town of Aigues-Mortes. All in all we had a great holiday, in fact, because it was so good and with there being so much more to see and do, we're going back again this year!

Heerlijk rustig en landelijk gelegen
Zeer gastvrije ontvangst. Zeer rustig gelegen. Loopafstand van dorpje Sauve dat klein maar fijn is. Voor wie van rust houdt maar ook dagtochtjes naar bekende plaatsen wil maken, ideaal.

Great cottage in wonderful surroundings
Stayed in the Bergerie, 3 bedroom cottage, set among the fields. It was just perfect for relaxing on the spot and exploring the area. The wifi was good enough for remote working (which is not always the case in places we stayed) which unfortunately I had to do for several days. Good job I take could take a dip in the great swimming pool to relax. At the same time the family could explore the area: kayaking on the Herault, Pont du Gard, bambouseraie, Nimes, beautiful Sauve, here is plenty to do. In the evenings we could relax, either cooking in the cottage, on the barbecue, or visiting the excellent restaurants in the area. Nick and Jenny are welcoming hosts who provided a bottle of rose, pleasant conversation and lots of tips on what to do in the area. For us this was an unplanned booking en route back home, but we struck it really lucky. Would return, highly recommended.

About the host

Hello . Jenny and I moved to Southern France some years back now, with our young family, seeking the warmth of a Mediterranean climate ,the beauty of Southern France, good wine and a more relaxed way of life amongst the nature and history of this lesser known area. We have not been disappointed and still marvel at the beauty of our surroundings, the space we have and yet all the facilities of modern life just close bye. Not that easy to find but we did and here we are over 20 years later and never saw anywhere better! It was an all or nothing move. Jenny has been a local councillor. I play in the pottery studio when I get the chance. No photo of us as we don't really come with the gite! But you'll see us around, occasionally by the pool.

Why they chose this property

Why this property? Well because it's close to all the facilities you may need and not up a mountain pass ! The accommodations are set within 12 acres of a conservation area of outstanding natural beauty. The whole region is stunning in its beauty, there's a super pool waiting,no stairs, great local walks, plenty of attractions from caves and train rides to bamboo forests and Roman temples , beautiful markets, great wine and even river swimming It's a perfect place to relax and watch the stars at night. Surrounded by a beautiful natural environment in a conservation area but close to art galleries, supermarkets, restaurants and a wonderful wine growing area. It's close to this side of paradise! and offers you your own private garden area as well as acres of meadow land to enjoy. Walk the medieval lane to Sauve for breakfast bread or in the evening to one of the nearby restaurants.

What makes this property unique

Beautiful meadowland surrounds you in this conservation area giving you space to breath.
Barbecue in your own garden or wander across the meadows and play a game of boule
Everyday you'll see eagles overhead. But you'll be only 3 minutes drive to supermarkets, restaurants (even closer), and genuine village markets. In the further meadows you'll find our donkeys, goats and chickens (don't worry ,there is no noisy cockerel!)There's a delightful walk from your gite by gardens and river to the authentic medieval village of Sauve with its many artists, musicians, many interesting shops and great architecture.
You'll have complete privacy but Jenny and I are always there to help with any problems you may have from booking a restaurant to punctures to light bulbs.
