Very clean and newly decorated self contained ground floor garden apartment

A lovely newly decorated and lovingly looked after garden apartment with period features perfect for a couple or a young family wanting to explore London. Can comfortably accommodate 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children

The apartment has all mod cons, and the kitchen is well equipped for those looking to make home made meals.

The apartment is very clean, warm and homely. With its own front door and gated entrance, the central heating and hot water is always available and included in the price.

The 'Old English' style fire place and lovely restored features throughout. including a 42inch plasma, full satellite TV, with 800 channels, (includes over 10 children channels, over 15 movies channels, and over 10 news and sports channels,) internet access, a bose system, board games, books and magazines will keep you and your partner/family entertained in the evenings after a long day out visiting the many sites of London City.

French doors in the double bedroom lead to a lovely secluded patio area where you can sit out and relax after a day out exploring, or perhaps your children need somwhere safe and enclosed to run around. The front of the apartment is gated and spacious and the area is quiet and safe.

With numourous routes to get you around London, there is a bus stop which is a three to five minute walk from the apartment with buses going into the city, or if you prefer using the undergound, you can jump on at Turnpike Lane underground station and hop on the tube (the tube comes every 2-3 minutes and each stop is roughly two minutes apart, making the whole of London easily accessable. London Transport is very user friendly. Living next door to the apartment and working from home, I am always available to advise and help out with anything.

On arrival you will be given a tour of the apartment and shown where everything is and how to use all the mod cons. You will also be given a tourist pack with details of getting around London. Once you have had a moment to settle in have drink and look through the tourist pack I offer all guests the opportunity to sit down with me and ask any questions about getting around London or any other enquiries.

The apartment is well situated for all the airports with great transport links and is very close to major London connecting roads leading to Heatrow Airport, Stansted, Luton and Gatwick. I can arrange airport transfers if needed or I can advise on public transport to and from the airports.

Tourists attractions very close by include The Japanese Gardens and mazes in Capel Manor, Lee Valley White Water rafting Centre (one of the Olympic stadiums,) Lee Vally Park Farms, Paradise theme Park and zoo, Trent Park, and Myddleton House Gardens, The Harry Potter Museum. The Althletic Centre where some of the British Olympic teams train is also a must see.

If you feel like going further a field, there are lots of other UK areas to explore close by; Maybe you would like to visit one of England's famous pebbled beaches in Brighton or Southend, or fancy a trip to Oxford? - the apartment is close to London's orbital road which gives you access to all the major motorways in the UK. Rent a car for the day and see other parts of the UK or jump on a bus and go into the capital - the choice is yours!

The Great Cambridge Industrial estate (five minute walk) is fantastic for groceries and discount branded shopping or perhaps you would prefer the smaller shops of Enfield Wash - boutiques, English cafes, fish and chips, and other quaint restaurants true to the English style in decor offering a wealth of European foods.

There is also Wood Green Shopping Centre, and Enfield Town Shopping Centre, along with the famous Brick Lane market in Liverpool Street all easily accessable via public transport.

Big Ben, The Olympic Stadium , Hyde Park, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace and all the other popular London attractions are also very easy to get to, with train links/underground links to the City, as well as bus routes.

I am well aware of how daunting holidaying somewhere unfamiliar can be, especially with children, so I am on hand to help anyway I can with advise about the wonderful city of London and other parts of the UK throughout your stay.

My husband and I are business owners in Education and Agricultural

We have lived in various parts of North and East London and in our younger days spent a lot of time working in the City. We know London well, and decided to move and settle in North London once we started having children as the area of Enfield is residential and more family orientated. We like going into the City, but love being able to leave the bustle behind.

We have lived in North London for 8 years with our three children.

Why Shimmy Opara chose Enfield

The property we live in is a lovely spacious family home and the previous owners used the guesthouse apartment to accommodate their visiting relatives.

Coming from a big and international family ourselves, we fell in love with the idea of being able to entertain family from abroad whilst still having complete privacy.

Family who stayed started recommending the apartment to their friends who wanted to visit London - one year the apartment was filled almost every week and so we decided that we would advertise it on this website and see what happens. It has proved to be very successful over the last two years - unfortunately for our family, the apartment is not readily available, but we are happy combining holiday letting with using it as part of the family home when it has not been booked.

The apartment is perfect for young couples and families - two adults, two children who want to see London but don't want to pay the massive inner city prices for accommodation.

Having children ourselves, we know how expensive holidaying can be and we are happy to offer families an affordable way to show their children the wonderful sights London has to offer.

What makes this apartment unique

The property combines the old with the new. It really is beautifully decorated and we maintain it.

The apartment is lovely quiet and warm with plenty of outdoor space which is lovely in the summer.

It really is ideal for the young couple/family wanting to explore London life but who need that extra space and quiet evening time to put the kids to bed and unwind with a glass of wine or two!

The bed is orthopaedic and all the furniture in the bedroom is brand new. This is a gorgeous luxurious apartment at a cost effective price.

good stay. cozy home

The property was cozy and perfect for our family of 2 small girls, myself and my husband. We had everything we needed to be comfortable. The only negative was the amount of time it took us to get into the city during the work week. Traffic was heavy so it took the bus about 40 minutes to get to the station which then we had to get a train into the city. Our girls loved the upper deck bus ride so this didn't bother them in the least, and I completely understand this is just how things go.

Shimmy was very quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had. She was very helpful to take care of any issues regarding the property. We would probably stay closer to the city next time, but again, that does not reflect on the property or owner, that is just our preference. The neighborhood was cute and quiet and we got around easily. It was great to have the kitchen and washimg machine so we did not have to go out for very meal and so that we did not have to spend our vacation time looking for or sitting in a laundrette.

Owner's Response: Feedback is really important and we take on board all comments to help enhance our visitors holiday experience. I wasn't around to welcome this particular family as I was away and so all correspondence took place via text and so I did not get a chance to explain the "rush hour" time to them. From 7am - 9am the morning traffic in central and greater London is very heavy. It is also more costly to travel at this time. I usually advise guests to wait until after 9am to travel to miss the "rush hour". It can cut the traveling time to almost half. In the afternoon "rush hour" is between 5pm - 6pm, so once again I advise guests to avoid using public transport at this time. The apartment is not in the centre of London and the rental price reflects this, however public transport is really easy to use and I have a list of times printed out in the apartment to help guests plan their days. If used correctly, it really does make a difference and cuts down on the waiting time for public transport and traffic. I will make sure I add this information to the tourist folder that is in the apartment, so even if I am unable to personally welcome guests, they are aware.

Very Comfortable

This is a really good place to stay. Shimmy contacted me and asked me to write a review which I am happy to do so.

When we stayed, everything was in good working condition. Shimmy communicated with us enough. She is very to the point and frank and honest. She told us about the public transport, what was good cost wise and gave us her number if we needed anything. We had no problems.

She came to see us when we arrived to give us information and to collect the security deposit and then the night before we left to give us back the deposit.

After reading all the reviews, I can confirm with all the positive ones. I would recommend this to all who are able to explore. Shimmy is very nice and helpful.

Very Disappointed

We were excited to stay here especially after reading all of the reviews. The one thing that upset us in the beginning us we weren't given the address to the property prior to our reservation date. I called her from Paris 4 times plus emailed her a couple times the day of arrival to get the address. I finally pieced the address together from the picture which had the house number in it plus the description on HomeAway. She got back to me 4 hrs later as we were standing at the Train Station in London not knowing where to go. Everything did not work: lights were burnt out in the apartment, no internet (unless you have a computer with a USB so you can use her thumb drive), TV wouldn't work. The heater being temperamental - she told us not to touch it. It was so hot we had to leave the back door open. The shower was something else. Electricity had gone out before we arrived as the clocks etc were blinking and it went out while we were showering the first morning after arriving. No electricity - no water at all in the shower and then no hot water in the apartment. It took us a while to reach her and then 45 minutes before she got the electricity back on. She had to have someone come as she doesn't live next door as advertised and "it does that sometimes". It took about 1 1/2 hrs to reach London after you walk 3 blocks, catch the bus to the train station and then ride the train in. Gated entrance, really. Yes it has a gate, which doesn't lock or really even latch. The owner was apologetic about the electric going out, the mold in the shower, not having internet anymore and TV not working, so promised to refund one nights stay plus cleaning deposit, as we moved into a hotel in London, but it's been 6 weeks and we haven't seen it yet.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wants to see London. We only had 3 days and didn't want to spend 3 1/2 to 4 hrs a day wasted on the train and bus. Cheap - yes, but not worth it if you are there to see London. I also won't recommend it for anyone over 55 as it's quite a walk to the bus, and a bit confusing to get around if you are not from that part of the world.

Owner's Response: I was very disappointed to receive this review, however I am not surprised as from the start, I knew that this type of holiday was not what this more mature couple (70+) were looking for. There are a number of embellishments and missing parts of the story to outright untruths - from accessing the address of the apartment to how long it took to get hold of me, to "nothing working" in the apartment, to how long it takes to get into the city. The only thing I will say is this apartment is not for you if you expect a premium five star hotel type holiday with a "room service" response. It is also not for anyone who has just undergone surgery and can not do a three -five minute walk to the bus stop, nor someone who is not ready to be thrown in to the buzz of London public transport. The apartment is clean, has 1000 channels on the Sky TV, has hot water all day long with electricity and gas etc...It is very comfortable and I urge you to read the other reviews on this page. If guests find the apartment too hot, the temperature can be adjusted. There is internet access via a mobile USB key and a café two minutes away that allows you to access their WIFI. The apartment is 30-45 minutes away from the city as advertised on the webpage. I no longer live next door, however I am 15 minutes away and I am on hand to sort out any issues. With regards to this review, I struggled from the beginning with these guests. I tried my best to adapt the apartment to their tastes whilst they were here but knew they were not happy from the start. They decided to leave earlier and book into a hotel in the city which was the best thing for them. This apartment is for young families and couples, or a small group of friends looking for accommodation wanting to explore and be self sufficient. I am sorry that these guests feel this way.

Can't go wrong here (esp. if on a budget)

There's not much to say really, I can mostly only affirm the rave reviews that have already been written. The owners are absolutely lovely, well-informed and helpful guys, the apartment is very tidy and exactly as described. Everything worked, and if it didn't -- the heating can be "a bit temperamental" to use Shimmy's words :-) -- it was fixed immediately. High-quality big-screen TV with lots of programmes if you care for that. At this price there must be some drawbacks, but these are absolutely plain to see: There's the size (a family is OK, but four adults ought better be on VERY good terms) and the distance to central London (see the other reviews). Personally, I didn't mind the commuting much; there's a lot to see or to read and trains and buses are frequent. It's not too expensive either: To my suprise a zone 5-6 off-peak travelcard costs exactly the same as a ticket for zone 1-2 (GBP 8.90 p.d. for adults, and I think it was 3.20 for the kids -- Oyster is an alternative). What mattered much more to us was that really everything you might need can be reached on foot in a few minutes: take-away restaurants, a cafe, a little corner shop, a pub, ... Supermarkets are also nearby (a walk of perhaps 15 mins or one or two stations by bus, and we even felt daring enough to go there by car). All in all we spent five wonderful days in London -- thanks a lot for that! We'd definitely return to this apartment, and I can only recommend it to everybody; especially, but not only, if money IS an issue.

Great place even better owners.

We stayed in this great little apartment for a week. Shimmy and Ike were very helpful and always there if we needed them, which wasn't often. The place is clean, comfortable well priced. I have read the others comments about the commute, it's not that bad. It's a 200 yard walk to the bus stop that takes you directly to Enfield Town train station in about 5-10 minutes. On a average day it took us about 45 minutes to downtown London. There are shops and a supermarket within walking distance and a mini-mart gas station with a Costa just around the corner. It was a great place to return to after a long day in the city. A heads up for us pampered Americans, their is no air conditioning. We were there during one of the warmest weeks for England and it was cool and comfortable with the large pedestal fan Shimmy provided. I would recommend this rental to my friends and family. I look forward to renting this place again if I return to England.

This apartment was clean, very comfortable, and Shimmy was a wonderful, wonderful hostess. She was attentive from beginning to end for each question and request we had. She booked us a cab to and from the airport, provided a booklet full of maps and good travel info for getting to and from London. That was a huge help for us since we had no idea where to begin. We took the maps with us everywhere and were grateful for them. Shimmy even drove me to the rental car place to pick up our car, which she did not have to do but it saved me a bus trip. She came immediately to reset the water heater box when I told her the hot water was out, it was an easy fix and she made it her priority to take care of it. We loved having this place to come back to and put our feet up on the recliner couch at the end of the day and watch tv as a family to unwind from a busy day of sightseeing. The bed was so comfortable, you'll never find a bed like that in a hotel! The air mattress for the kids was great to have as well. I highly recommend this apartment, all the reviews thus far are true and accurate and you will feel welcome by Shimmy and her family, beautiful people they are!

A lovely newly decorated garden apartment with period features perfect for a couple or a young family. Idealy located with transport links into the city of London, and very close to major roads leading to Heatrow Airport and other parts of the UK. Surrounded by lovely parks, gardens and historical buildings coupled with shopping centres and the tourist attractions of the capital close by, makes this a great area to explore. Hyde Park, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, The Olympic Stadium, Oxford Circus and the rest of London's attrctions are all within easy reach via Underground or bus.

The apartment itself has all mod cons, and is very clean and homely. The property has it's own front door and is gated. The little patio area is lovely to sit out and relax in after a day out exploring in the hectic city, or perhaps you would like to dine outdoors in the summer. There are also plenty of restaurents close by if you would prefer to dine out.

Airport transfers can be arranged on request and all guest will recieve a welcome pack on arrival which will include information about the local area and getting around London and other parts of the UK. All linen and towels are provided and we can also provide an electric double air bed on request for the living room.
