8 adults & 5 children under 4 years - we're a tough crowd. La Rivolte came through with flying colours. Thanks so much, we had a great time.
La Rivolte is located up a small lane leading from the road which runs between the town of Grasse and the village of Châteauneuf. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk into the historic centre.
The medieval town of Grasse is a labyrinth of fascinating ancient paths and alleyways. The “Place aux Aires” at the centre of town is where you will find flower sellers as well as a number of great cafés and restaurants. The market is held on Wednesday but you will need to rise early as it's all over by lunchtime.
The perfumeries for which Grasse is famous are dotted around the town centre and include Molinard, Fragonard and Galimard. Perfume essence is manufactured in Grasse from flowers from the local area as well as those which are imported. Regular guided visits are available at most perfumeries as well as the chance to make your own unique scent.
The nearest beaches are at Cannes, Antibes and Juan les Pins which are all about 20 minutes drive away. Other places of historic interest include St. Paul de Vence, Mougins and Biot and for some spectacular natural beauty the Gorge du Loup and the immense Gorges du Verdon are not to be missed.
La Rivolte is a beautiful 19th Century 'Belle Epoque' villa overlooking the historic Côte d'Azur town of Grasse, the world capital of perfume and walkable into the town centre. Set in 2 hectares of Mediterranean gardens with magnificent palm trees, beautiful heated pool and stunning sea views over the Bay of Cannes, the villa sleeps a maximum of 16 people and is available to rent throughout the year.
There are 8 Provençal bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, 2 living rooms - the first with satellite TV, piano, X-Box, DVD/VCR and a large ion of films, and the second a library with wood burning stove. There is a large kitchen/dining room with open fireplace. In front of the villa is a vast terrace with tables and chairs for guests to enjoy the spectacular view, large gas barbecue, outdoor dining area and table tennis. There are many activities in the area including golf, paragliding, hiking, sailing and even creating your own perfume. La Rivolte is an ideal base from which to explore the Côte d'Azur. Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez and Monaco are all just a short drive away.
The villa is surrounded by two hectares of Mediterranean gardens - exotic plants and trees including Agave Mexicanas, huge Lebanese cedar, magnificent palms, pine trees, fig, cypress, mimosa, oleanders, rose bushes and 60 olive trees some of which are 1,000 years old.
Immediately in front of the villa is a wide terrace with amazing views across the medieval town of Grasse with the Mediterranean in the background. There there are tables and chairs for cocktails and outdoor dining. This is dominated by 4 majestic Phoenix palms and large ancient olive pots filled with geraniums. Trailing on the terrace wall are orange trumpet vine, bougainvillea and plumbago. There's lavender in front of the house and in the garden of Herb Cottage, and also lemon and orange trees.
