About the property

Sleeps 8 persons. Four bedrooms all with own shower room. Open plan living.

Accommodation: Entrance hall, cloakroom with hand basin and toilet. Large open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area, with parquet flooring, double height beamed ceiling and mezzanine gallery overlooking the area downstairs. Bedroom 1, super kingsize antique four poster bed, en suite shower, hand basin and toilet. Stairs from living area down to, bedroom 2, twin single beds, rear door to steps up to garden area, ensuite shower, hand basin and toilet, utility room (also off this bedroom). Spiral staircase from living area up to: Mezzanine lounge and study area offering fantastic views of Chesil Beach, Portland Harbour and Lyme Bay. Bedroom 3, double bed, ensuite shower, hand basin and toilet. Family shower room, with hand basin and toilet. Narrow stairs to 2nd floor: Bedroom 4, (attic room), double bed with double aspect conservation windows.

This property was converted from the old Portland Magistrates Court in 2009/2010. It has been very tastefully designed and has a wonderful outlook over Lyme Bay from the front and Portland Harbour from the side aspect.

It is a high end property with antique furnishings, including a king size four poster bed in the master bedroom.

It is within easy walking distance to Chesil Beach and the Olympic Sailing Venue, Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy.

The property enjoys outstanding views from the upstairs mezzanine lounge and will not disappoint.

The property accommodates 8 visitors in four bedrooms. The lounge, kitchen and dining room are all accommodated in what was originally the magistrates courtroom, providing an ‘open plan style’. With its pitch pine flooring and panelling it certainly has a ‘wow’ factor when one walks through the door. A wrought iron spiral staircase leads to the first floor, with stairway to the upper bedroom. From the kitchen a stairway leads down to the basement where there is a further bedroom with twin beds and this room has the benefit of a second kitchen attached to it. All bedrooms have access to their own bathroom and three are ensuite.

As a grade II listed building, certain features remain from the old days, including the dock which has been converted into a bar in the dining area of the room (inclusive of bar fridge). The 17 ft magistrates table was retained and now takes pride of place along the walkway to the upper lounge/study. There is even a Bell Tower on the top of the property. One cannot fail to be impressed by the grandness of this property.

Large TV with Sky Plus and ability to use internet are all plus factors for this quite remarkable and unique property.

Perfect in every way

What a wonderful find!

We stayed at the house as a family group and would not fault the property in anyway.

Traveling with my grandmother who is in her 90's the ground floor bedroom was perfect. the open plan living space was ideal for our group as we all had ample of space but were able to remain together in the house without being separated by walls.

the view of the sea from the Gallery lounge and the outdoor terrace were beautiful.

We were well informed that we had to take our own towels and the property was excellently equipped. We had guests for Sunday lunch and didn’t struggle with utensils, crockery or glasses for all twelve of us around the stunning dining table.

the conversion from the original court house to a house has been completed with such care and thought from the lighting to the sound system and some amazing antiques. the modern kitchen fits perfectly in the traditional surroundings and the secret door to the bedroom is fantastic.

We had no need to contact the caretaker during our stay but full contact details were available. The owner was very helpful prior to arrival and speedy in all correspondence.

We would happily The Court House to anyone looking for the ideal property for a group get together. We hope to return again.

The Court House overlooks the world heritage coastline, Lyme Bay, from the front of the property, and from the side of the property Portland Harbour and the Olympic Venue, Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy. It is within easy walking distance of the Olympic venue being held later this year. This Grade II Listed Building, was built in 1904, and is the old Portland Magistrates Court. It is constructed of local Portland Stone. It was converted into a residence in 2009/10 and this conversion has been very sympathetically thought through. The interior now combines original features such as the old balustrading, pitch pine flooring, pitch pine wood panelling and the original 'Dock', now converted to a 'bar'. You can sit and read the newspaper at the original 17 ft 'Magistrates table' now cleverly located on the walkway to the upstairs lounge which overlooks Lyme Bay. There are luxurious feature such as contemporary kitchen styling with granite work surfaces, en-suite bathrooms to nearly all the bedrooms and high quality antique furnishings throughout, including a magnificent large oak four poster bed in the main bedroom that used to be the magistrates chambers! The large open plan living area is perfect for enjoying a sociable holiday; preparing food, entertaining at the antique dining table which seats twelve or relaxing in the comfortable lounge area. Outside the property, enjoy the fresh air and sunshine whilst experiencing the magnificent ocean views on a sunny day, or sundowners on a balmy summer's evening. Whilst staying at The Court House you may wish to ramble along the South West Coastal path, exploring the rugged countryside, or visit the Chesil coast, to beachcomb - both activities are just a short walk away. A groceries shop, various pubs, The Blue Fish restaurant and the famous Cove House Inn located at 'Dead Man's Cove' are only a stroll away. Opposite the property is a park area with a bowling green, tennis courts (open to all) and attractive gardens. You may like to take a country drive along the magnificent Jurassic coastline exploring hamlets and villages as you go, possibly stopping at a choice pub for a fresh fish lunch or at a traditional cottage cafe for a Dorset cream tea. Weymouth, with its long sandy beach, restaurants and various entertainments is just a short drive away. The Court House would be appreciated by a discerning guest looking for a touch of luxury and a unique property.

Services in addition to standard equipment: Gas Central heating, large flat screen TV, DVD player, music system, SkyHD, Wifi internet and phone for incoming calls only. Fridges, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer. On road parking outside. Bed linen included, please state requirements when booking.
