About Cafwin Cruises Narrowboat Holidays:
Inspire romance and indulge in the idyllic waterways of Worcestershire & Warwickshire in style from Spring 2019 in our brand new luxury bespoke built 57ft narrowboat. See our webpage at: Cafwin Cruises.
We are so excited to introduce our first Boutique Narrowboat, Arthur Owl, which has been commissioned and will be on the water by February 2019. We can’t wait to greet our first guests in Spring 2019 and we hope you’ll be amongst those to take advantage of holidaying on our beautiful brand new boat.
Clearly, we are unable at this time to show you photographs or video of the completed Arthur Owl, but the diagram below shows the planned layout of the boat, which has been designed specifically with couples in mind, but which will also have the ability to provide an extra double bed in the saloon should you choose to travel with younger children or friends. Whether travelling as a twosome or in a small group, Arthur Owl has been commissioned to provide the same creature comforts you would expect in a quaint Boutique Hotel. The bed settee has been selected to ensure that all four people, and not just two, can sit comfortably. That said, if only two of you are travelling then the settee will become a generous cosy area for you both to snuggle up in and watch romantic films, converse, play board games, or listen to soft music after you’ve battened down the hatches for the night.
At 57’ long x 6’ 10” wide, Arthur Owl will be a boat built for romance and adventure in a ‘reverse layout’ contemporary cottage style. The décor will be nostalgic with an ambience of simplicity and practical charm. Catherine has a reputation for style and warmth when it comes to décor and she’s looking to bring this panache to Arthur Owl with a traditional and casual elegance of times gone by, but in a more contemporary fresh style that embraces all the modern necessities. When boating, we like to be close by to one another, even if one is driving the boat and the other is preparing food or drinks. The reverse layout of Arthur Owl allows for this and also means that we can fit in a very comfortable master bedroom as well as a full, cushion-clad, external sitting area at the stern of the boat. This way, whoever is at the helm, they have company as they cruise along the beautiful waterways of Worcestershire and Warwickshire. Time for contemplation or conversation, our aim is for Arthur Owl to be unobtrusive and tranquil, so it’ll be fitted with Hospital Silencers which helps reduce engine noise. It will be powered by a Vetus 45 Engine, one of the best on the market, and manoeuvring the boat will be assisted by the installation of Bow Thrusters making moving away from the bank or tight corners simplicity itself.
In advance of our boat being built and therefore pictures, we hope you can imagine the following:
A shiny two-toned deep ruby red and mid grey exterior, accessed from the capacious stern into a warm and inviting interior, decked out with engineered oak wood flooring and painted in the muted colours of Farrow & Ball’s Elephant’s Breath and Purbeck Grey. Designer features abound with oak topped hand painted kitchen cabinets, a Belfast sink, slate grey radiators, tailor made soft furnishing, and ambient mood lighting twinkling from the gunwale and entry steps. To get a better idea of the colour scheme, see the picture of our own kitchen last Christmas, in the photo section, which we have drawn our inspiration from. The boat will have the same colours, the same oak topped painted kitchen cabinets and the same ambience.
Saunter from the saloon into a sumptuous walk through bathroom with slate tiled flooring and an oak granite topped sink cabinet housing our environmentally friendly, but still luxuriant, complimentary toiletries. Use the pump-out facilities (which we service) and refresh under the hot rainfall shower, drying off with fluffy fresh towels kept warm on the heated towel rail. Relax in your soft courtesy dressing gown and spa slippers, dry and style your hair with the provided hairdryer and hair straighteners and if you must dress again, you could iron out any creases using the travel iron and small board.
Cosy from the shower you can snuggle up on the large 4-seater settee (which doubles as a restful guest double bed) and check in with friends and family at home courtesy of the free Wi-Fi, listen to music on the DAB radio, or your own music streamed into the boat from the bluetooth Bose speaker. Recharge your electronics with multi-charging Points whilst watching a romantic film on the flat-screen TV/DVD with freeview, all courtesy of the omni-directional aerial.
Relax with a cup of complimentary tea or freshly brewed coffee from the coffee maker. Make hot buttered toast, but don’t worry about washing up directly and just leave the matching crockery in the dishwasher until you have a full load. Enjoy a refreshing G&T with mixers kept cool in the integrated fridge with icebox or the under floor cool storage areas. If you do prefer to wash up by hand you’ll be provided with eco-friendly washing up liquid. Cook a sumptuous meal feeling free to use our well stocked spice rack, salt & pepper.
Whilst cruising down the beautiful canal, relish sitting in comfort opposite the helmsman in cushion clad seating. When you come to mooring up, eat alfresco courtesy of the picnic table and parasol, but if it’s raining, wear the provided ‘Military 1st’ high quality Wet Weather Ponchos to help keep you dry and snug. On hot sunny days, feel free to lie on the boat’s roof, or sit in the lightweight portable stadium folding seats for better comfort.
Hopefully, you are not missing the pictures of Arthur Owl too much and you now have a taste of what to expect from a Cafwin Cruise on our beautifully planned boutique boat. We can’t wait to show you the pictures and if you book your holiday on trust before they are online and then decide you don’t like the look of the boat when the pictures come out, then we’ll refund your money and cancel your holiday with no recrimination.
Unless you’re travelling on the River Avon, there are no extra costs! Many narrowboat companies charge for extras, but the price you see here is inclusive of everything, be that fuel, bedding, dogs, WiFi, damage waiver, river licences, etc. You’ll be paying an exceptionally competitive price for the very highest of standards.
We are blessed in the UK to have the services of the Canals and Riverboat Trust (CRT) who look after over 2000 miles of canals & rivers and 35,000 boats. They, like us at Cafwin Cruises, believe that life is better on the water and they have a top team of committed experts and volunteers who help to protect the waterway environment and improve it for both people and nature. They spend close to £1 million every year trying to remove as much litter from the waterways as possible, so that we can all enjoy the beautiful scenery. We are sure that our guests will want to assist the CRT by using the canals and rivers responsibly when they holiday on Arthur Owl.
To help our guests take responsible care, Arthur Owl will come equipped with the following:
- An under counter 30 ltr waste bin and a list of places of where it can be emptied, though we are sure you’ll find lots of suitable disposal areas along the way yourself
- Biodegradable and compostable bin liners – enough for your holiday
- Reusable coffee filters
- A loose tea infuser
- 100% organic Chicopee Biodegradable J Cloths and dish towels
- LED light bulbs
- Natural cleaning products
- Natural toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body cream – enough for your holiday
- Bamboo soft toilet rolls (still looking into this as some do block the toilet system and we can’t be having that!)
Where our boat lives:
The historic town of Droitwich Spa is a beautiful spa town set in the picturesque Worcestershire countryside. A small town of great charm, it owes its existence to the natural brine springs which emanate from subterranean beds of pure rock salt 200ft below the ground. Dissolved by underground springs, artesian pressure forces the salt to the surface as brine. The celebrated town offers a great range of leisure activities including guided walks, an open air lido and two pretty Green Flag parks. The Droitwich canal network (the Worcester and Birmingham Canal) is a haven for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers and it’s at the gorgeous and modern Droitwich Spa Marina where Cafwin Cruises is privileged to operate from. Cafwin Cruises Ltd is an entirely separate company from Droitwich Spa Marina, but it is the only Hire Boat business based at the beautifully maintained facility and both the Marina and Cafwin Cruises are committed to providing the very best service to our customers. For further details on the Marina please visit their website at Droitwich Spa Marina.
