Overview

About the property

1 Bdrm Original Log Cabin-Rocking Chair Front Porch, Western Decor, Herb Garden

Cute, Cute, Cute! A Bona fide Log Cabin, built in the 40's, possibly older, but that's as far back as the property records go. It's sweet, small, quaint, funky & located on 1.25 acres with a meadow, seasonal creek (July, December-March) and tall elms & cottonwoods (the pines are at a higher elevation, 1 mile away but we've planted quite a few!). There are lots of birds, butterflies & lizards to watch (but sorry, no TV, tho WiFi & Sirius radio are avail). Wildlife goes through nearly every night, especially javelina and raccoons! We've also seen a coyote on the critter cam! This one bedroom has gas stove, a deep Serta Sleeper mattress & high-thread count cotton sheets plus an assortment of pillows, including cervical support or memory foam. Pets must be okayed by owner with signed Pet Addendum & Pet Fee.

A layout of the Cabin and view of each room is available at:

my.matterport.com/show/?model=vn327zKa37Z%C2%A0

Please C and P.

We also have a 2 bedroom Cottage if the Log Cabin is booked: VRBO - 889880

You'll love the interior of this 1 bedroom (Queen-size bed), 1 bathroom (large shower) log cabin with log walls, log ceiling beams and hardwood floors throughout.

The Log Cabin has fascinating features, like the original walk-in closet and built-in bookshelves. Even the vintage wood kitchen cabinets with rope pulls are adorable! We outfitted the dining room with an oak table and kitchen chairs made with rodeo cowboy upholstery! In the living room there is another oak table with hand-painted bears and bear claws on it, a loveseat and 2 rocking chairs.

There is not a TV. We provide great high-speed Internet, games, puzzles, cards, and lots of books, magazines and brochures about the area, history, events and cowboy and Native American art and culture.

The Kitchen is Furnished with a Stove, Refrigerator, Microwave, Toaster oven and Coffee maker. Cooking utensils are provided along with pots and pans, glasses, coffee cups, silverware and dish towels. There is a storage closet with brooms, cabinets and shelves for your extra kitchen items and cleaning supplies under the sink. Coffee and filters, sugar, creamer, salt and pepper, coconut oil and a few other items are provided.

The Cabin is decorated with Antique and Mid-century Modern furniture, Southwestern patterns and artwork of Native Americans, Cowboys and Arizona nature and wildlife. We did some renovations including a new refrigerator, toilet and water heater, so there's nice hot water and good water pressure for the shower!

We scrubbed the floors and logs and put a bright, fresh coat of paint in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and living room. We've added new curtains, door locks, a keyless entry, hardware, grill and outdoor seating. The front porch has a Flagstone floor with a bench and rocking chairs where you can sip your coffee in the morning or wine in the evenings while you watch the birds and wildlife. We've had a lot of the yellow finches, roosting mourning doves, ravens, and a ladder-backed woodpecker lately.

In front of the cabin we've added native grasses and a seating area. Past the meadow (newly sown with Poppies, Lupines and Southwestern Wildflowers) Miller Creek runs seasonally after snows or Monsoon Season. In back of the cabin an herb garden grows with oregano, sage, mint, rosemary and thyme. You're welcome to cut a few to take home! When in season, there are also penstemon, salvia flowers, clematis, sweet-smelling jasmine, butterfly bushes and grapevines of Chardonnay and Muscat.

In the Bedroom, a high Queen-sized Pine Bed reigns over the bedroom with Iron Scrolling and a deep Serta Perfect Sleeper Pillow-top Mattress on top of box springs. You'll feel like the Princess and the Pea on this massive bed! Don't worry--there's a step stool to help us shorter folks! High-thread count sheets, a cottony quilt, blanket and three styles of pillows are available to you: non-allergenic bamboo, doctor-recommended, cervical support or anti-allergenic poly-fill. Wall Lamps provide lighting for night-time reading. The rustic walk-in closet holds built-in shelves for clothes, a chest with a key for clothes or valuables, plenty of room for hanging clothes, a full-length mirror and an ironing board and iron.

The bathroom is clean and bright with a window, new grout in the shower, a pedestal sink and a toilet to which we've added dual flush...up for one, down for two. A medicine cabinet will hold your sundries and there's lots of fluffy bath towels, hand towels and washcloths! Shampoo, conditioner and soap are provided. We try to be non-wasteful with healthy products in bulk or if you prefer, you can choose sample sizes.

The Western theme continues in the Living Room meeting a Mid-century flair with loveseat, antique chairs, and a vintage rocking chair. An iron coffee table with Southwestern cutouts and a a stone top compliment the design. A TV is NOT provided at this time but there is High-speed Internet for streaming movies.

We'd love to have you come visit. There are so many things to do in Prescott and surrounding areas, whether you're driving through on a short visit or staying longer. As the cowboys say in Potter's Cowboy Slang, You're "as welcome as a pat straight flush"!

We also have a 2 bedroom cottage, if this does not suit your needs or is booked. The VRBO number is 883663, "Sparkling, Renovated Cottage". We'd be happy to accommodate you there too!

About Dave Rueb and Karen Hunt

We purchased the property in 2016 with the help of the previous owners who'd owned it for 30 years! Dave and I are both in Housing: Construction and Sales. With both of us self-employed in the housing industry we lost about everything (except each other!) in the crash. After business losses, bankruptcy, IRS audit, short sale and deaths in the family, we moved to Prescott, nearly on a whim. We rented from another couple we just met who believed in us and loaned us the down payment for this parcel of land. We started thinking about the possibilities of such a cute property and did a little work on the Log Cabin but tried to keep it mostly intact, even with its funky fixes by other owners and tenants. We renovated the Cottage down the lane in a big way (#883663), opening the floor plan and adding a garden.

The Log Cabin appears to have been owned (and possibly built) by a man who was a piano tuner and salesman. His wife worked as a bookkeeper for an attorney. They had one daughter who eventually taught dance in Los Angeles but returned to Prescott to care for her father in his last days and bury him in the local cemetery next to his wife (researched at Sharlot Hall Museum).

Thank you for choosing us. Let us know how we can make the property and your experience even better. We started this as our primary business after suffering many losses. We want a successful business and happy, satisfied guests! Blessings to you!

Why Dave Rueb and Karen Hunt chose Prescott

We really liked the authenticity of the Log Cabin, the location near the Fairgrounds and Downtown (but not too close) and the seasonal creek. With all the large elms, locusts and cottonwoods, we knew we wanted to preserve and improve upon this little park-like setting. The owners were thrilled with our vision and were finally able to part with it, knowing we would be good stewards to the land and the creek which adds to the water supply in Prescott.

What makes this cabin unique

The Log Cabin was definitely unique and incredibly cute! The log beams, the gas stove, the little front porch, the built-in closets and shelves were all really dear to us. We had an incredible time furnishing it and meeting people from auctions, antique stores, yard sales, thrift stores and estate sales. It's so wonderful to see so many works of art, antiques and collectibles and remember the people and stories that go with them. How heart-warming and magical it is to repurpose someone else's beloved or handmade items!

Cute cottage - just perfect

  • 5 of 5

Hands down the best VRBO rental experience I had. The cottage was warm and cozy. We were welcomed with soft music, fresh flowers on the kitchen table and the warm glow of the gas fireplace illuminated the walls. Karen and David went the extra mile to make sure our stay was fabulous. Well stocked kitchen and toiletries. They even left treats for us after our hike. The cabin was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The house is tucked back from the road on a peaceful private drive. Had the pleasure of seeing javelinas with babies walk through the property grounds. So stop your search and book it. You will love it too.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the fabulous review Jennifer! What an honor to get a review like that and have the honor and pleasure of meeting you and your daughters! I could have played with them in the creek bed all day, hunting lizards and finding rabbit dens! "T" and "P" are so knowledgeable about the natural world--they taught me a few things! I'm so glad they got to see the herd of javelina and their babies! How exciting! I'm glad you found the Log Cabin "warm and cozy" and "very clean"! That's exactly what we aim for. Yes, the gas fireplace does cast a warm glow and heats very well, plus there's always extra blankets-- and even a couple outdoor ones by the door to cozy up with outside. You are so very welcome for the fresh flowers, extra kitchen items and bath amenities. I'm thrilled you got to attend some events and activities like the Final Friday Art Walk, the Craft Festival at the Courthouse Square, the Thumb Butte Hike and some of Dave's and my favorite restaurants! I really enjoyed the drawings in the sketch book and the fantastic video you took. Tell the girls the feather is still on the Log Cabin front post too! Your family's interactions and the girls' enthusiasm really invigorated me after months of caring for my dying mother. Thank you. Many blessings! Karen

Loved staying at this cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Loved this cabin so much. I will definitely be returning when we go to Prescott. The owners are beyond kind and accommodating. The house is very cute, quiet and clean. I’m very picky about the soaps I use and always bring my own, the house had everything top notch and I didn’t even have to bring out and use my own soap. The bed was really comfortable and they provided tons of blankets, even an outdoor blanket. It’s very close to restaurants, stores and downtown Prescott. I would highly recommend staying here. This house really has everything you need and more!!

Fabulous Cabin Hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I and our cat stayed in this cozy cabin for 2 weeks & just loved it! Karen & Dave are so welcoming and thoughtful in stocking the cabin with almost everything you could think of! They definitely go the extra mile to make your time here memorable. We loved watching the variety of birds that flutter around the numerous bird feeders, as well as the javelinas that roam by occasionally in the night. The cabin is beautifully appointed and stayed nice and cozy despite the cold weather. This is truly a gem and Karen and Dave are the ultimate hosts!

Hospitality and accommodations provided a memorable experience.

  • 5 of 5

Dave and Karen were wonderful hosts - friendly and very accommodating, providing many "extras" to make sure that we were comfortable.

We stayed for ten nights and felt so at home. The cabin is well represented by the pictures, cozy and welcoming, very well cared for and clean. We're hikers and some wonderful trails were easily accessible by car, grocery store within walking distance. We would recommend this place and these people to anyone! Thank you so much Dave and Karen.

Prescott Hideaway is located along a seasonal creek, close to shopping and downtown, amidst a meadow, tall cottonwood trees and Siberian Elms. We are not in the Pines/forest. That is a little higher elevation about 1.5 miles away.

We are just a couple minutes’ drive (1.7 miles) from downtown, Whiskey Row and all the events at the Courthouse.

Since the property sits back on an acre and a quarter you will feel secluded even though there is the convenience of stores and restaurants nearby. The Rodeo Fairgrounds are just a half block away and there are often horse events, calf-roping tournaments, dog herding trials and barrel racing competitions!

The Rustic Pie Co. is .03 miles away, about a block and a half. It is amazing but be forewarned: Their new hours are that they are closed Sunday and Monday so you weekenders must get in there on Saturday to get your goodies! They offer homemade pies from whatever is in season, cinnamon rolls, cookies, homemade soups, chilies and delicious pot pies. I always get a whole berry, rhubarb or pecan (for Dave) pie! They will also divide one up for you if you want half a fruit and half a cream pie. Sooooo goood. Tell Nishon and Kim that Karen and Dave sent you from the Prescott Hideaway!

The Courthouse and Whiskey Row are just a few minutes’ drive away, so you can enjoy the events but be away from the noise and bustle when you want to relax.

Thumb Butte is the other direction (left out the driveway, straight through the intersection and right on Gurley St.) and just a few minutes’ drive away if you want to have a picnic or go for a hike.

We have a Fry's grocery 2 blocks away (0.3 miles) with a pharmacy and Starbucks. There is also (out Gail Gardner to the right and Iron Springs Rd.) shopping, Waffles N' More, Dry Gulch Steakhouse, Iron Springs Cafe, Esoji (Japanese), Whole Foods, True Value and Joann Fabrics.

You'll have privacy in your location and the convenience of shopping, post office, banks and the hospital nearby if you want or need them.

Let us know what you are interested in and we can steer you in the right direction!
