Stunning Trullo with Air Conditioning, Large Pool & WiFi

Bedrooms 5
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

5 beds, all air con,5 baths,beautifully restored & furnished, sleeps 12

A beautiful traditional 'trullo' farmhouse, Casa Castagno is located in the picturesque Puglian countryside but the sea & sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast are within 30 minutes drive and the town of Alberobello is a short 10 minute drive away.

The house has been renovated and lovingly restored to a very high standard, preserving the conical roofed trulli unique to Puglia, but incorporating modern design which creates a stylish, spacious interior.

Casa Castagno has a spacious, stunning, fitted kitchen, lounge, five beds (3 en suite), all with air conditioning & five bathrooms - 4 in the main building and 1 in the pool house. Unlike so many renovated trulli which are cramped and dark Casa Castagno's rooms are light and spacious.

The limestone floors that run throughout the house extend to the shaded terrace which is perfect for outside dining or simply lying back in a recliner chair with a good book.

Set in an acre of grounds is the newly built 12 x 6m salt water pool with a large pool terrace for sunbathing and surrounded by fields. There is a large sail shade on the pool terrace when the sun becomes too much or alternatively take the path leading to the shaded area under the chestnut tree; ideal for relaxing with a book or an after lunch snooze.

Special Celebrations: Casa Castagno is an ideal location for that special celebration. A highly experienced local team can provide you with a night to remember. They will set up and clear up. They provide the tables, linen, glasses, chairs, chef, waiters, wine, in fact everything you can think of is on offer leaving you to simply enjoy your special evening.

The terrace area can accommodate 30 guests and the kitchen size, layout and location make catering for this number of people hassle free.

Local minibus taxis can be arranged to deliver and return guests not staying at Casa Castagno from any of the nearby hotels in Alberobello.

See photo for table lay out and appearance.

Local Activities : Beaches

The nearest beaches to Casa Castagno (30 minute drive) are lidos along the Adriatic coast at Capitolo/Torre Carne - long, beautiful sandy beaches, safe for children.

Horse riding, watersports, cycling, and fishing all within 40 mins. Tennis is available in Alberobello.

Health Spa

A health and beauty spa is situated only 5 minutes from the house at the Vicktor Country Hotel.

Local markets

Explore the delights of local markets and stroll around the stalls to savour the freshest fruit, herbs, vegetables and other local produce. Bargains of every kind can be found. Alberobello - Thursday morning; Martina Franca Wednesday morning; Locorotondo -Friday morning; Ostuni -Saturday morning

Other Sights include the caves at Castellana delle Grotte & the Zoo Safari Park

The nearby town of Alberobello: Alberobello (8km - 10 mins drive)

Alberobello is a UNESCO world heritage site because its collection of some 1,500 trulli in an urban environment is unique. The trullo is an architectural feature of Puglia, a dry stone building with a conical roof.

Alberobello is an enchanting, 'fairytale' town with many excellent restaurants featuring local dishes, bars and a 'passegiata' for summer strolling. There are also 'agriturismi' (delicious home grown produce) restaurants outside Alberobello and you can sample local produce in its wonderful market.

Many festivals take place in the summer: folk, classical and modern music; dance and theatre, as well as religious festivals with music performances and fireworks. Alberobello is the centre of an annual pilgrimage to the Basilica dedicated to the martyr saints Cosma and Damiano.

Beautiful house in a lovely rural location but close enough to all the sights. Perfect for families

  • 5 of 5

We had a really wonderful time here. The house is big and beautiful with huge grounds and a large gated pool (which we tried out several times, despite it not being the weather for it!). Our group was made up of two families, withsix children aged between 11 and 2, and the space worked incredibly well for us (the barn and the main house are attached but operate as separate buildings). The house is very well equipped, Jeremy (the owner) is very responsive, and the team there is incredibly helpful if you have any issues.

The rural location makes you feel like you’re in a very special spot, away from it all - but then you can get everything you need within 10 minutes’ drive. Plus there’s an incredibly friendly dairy farm just 600m away, where you can buy the most delicious cheeses and they might even give you a tour.

All in all, a beautiful house in a beautiful spot, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Thoroughly suitable property for a leisurely family party.

  • 4 of 5

Our party of eleven enjoyed the spacious facilities of the swimming pool, the kitchen and the terrace. The bedrooms an ensuite facilities were good but that showers were a bit of a disappointment due to a lack of water pressure. The living room is rather small for the size of party, but the weather was very kind to us, so we had virtually no reason to use the living room during our enjoyable stay. During the course of the fortnight we did have problems with wasps around the swimming pool, but I don't suppose anything can be done about that!

Lovely Trulli in the heart of the countryside

  • 4 of 5

We are just back from spending a fantastic two weeks in Puglia at this lovely villa. We were very grateful that the villa benefits from air conditioning as we were there during the recent heatwave, the Italians named it 'Lucifer'.

We were a big family group of 9 which included Grandma and there was plenty of space for everyone to chill out. We ended up having lunch inside as it too hot to sit outside and the kitchen was large enough for us to all be in there without getting on top of each other.

The swimming pool was a big attraction and certainly provided hours of entertainment for the kids, young and old.

The recommendations for the local restaurants were good and found the locals very friendly and helpful. Although not mentioned much we took a couple of trips to Monopoli and found some great restaurants as well as a church with mummified bodies!!!!

I would like to say we were impressed with the contact Jeremy had with us right from the initial enquiry through to making sure everything was ok when we came back. The meet and greet that is provided is a fantastic extra as we arrived on a late flight so it was dark by the time we arrived. Whilst we were there a couple of things required some attention and there was excellent prompt service including fixing a broken air conditioning unit.

Great area, great food and not too touristy. Will definitely be back but probably when it isn't quite so hot.

Only complaint that there are no oven gloves in the kitchen which made it a bit difficult getting things in and out of the oven.

Perfect Base for our Puglia Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our time at Jeremy's house. This was our first time in Puglia and this inviting home served as the perfect home-base for exploring the area. The home is beautifully decorated with light, bright neutrals and it is super cool to be staying in actual trulli given their heritage in the area. the kitchen is enormous! we loved the giant white table where we gathered each morning for coffee and breakfast. The five bedrooms are all very comfortable with powerful AC units -- this was essential as we were there during a record breaking July heat wave. The pool is perfection, really beautiful and inviting. We spent most of our evenings outside at the outdoor table...the outdoor area is beautifully finished and well lit. The house is just a few minutes outside of Alberobello so it was easy to take trash, replenish groceries, get gas, find ATMs, etc. but once we were at the house, we felt as if we were removed in the quiet countryside. Jeremy engages a property manager in town to help with check-in and various services. They were fantastic. we had wine and groceries waiting for us upon arrival which was a big help. And when dinner plans fell through one evening they scrambled last minute to help us find takeout pizza. We had a rental car so each day we would venture someplace new: Alberobello, Polignano a Mare, Martina Franca for the weekly market, the beach, Lecce. We absolutely fell in love with Puglia and returning to this beautiful home each evening made it a true vacation. Some logistical notes: there are two bedrooms in the main house which share a large bathroom. There are three bedrooms in the "barn" each of which have their own bathroom. The 5th bathroom is out by the pool and driveway and we didn't even use/need it. The kitchen has everything you need to cook as well as dishwasher and washing machine, and drying racks for doing laundry. there are beach towels for the pool and to take to the beach. The property manager helped us schedule a mid-week house cleaning and linen change. Jeremy was a fantastic host, all communications were timely and informative. The house is gorgeous, inviting and very functional. Strongly recommend!!

Wonderful property!

  • 5 of 5

The villa was stunning! Exactly as described and pictured on the website. The property was peaceful and relaxing, spacious enough to accommodate our two families of 9. We often walked just few minutes to La Stalla, the local farm, to get fresh eggs and daily made cheeses. Highly recommend the burrata! The location was perfect to explore the many beautiful places in the area. We spent a day at the beach in Monopoly, visited Locorotondo and the the near Alberobello almost daily for our grocery shopping. Go to any of the winery to get amazing local wine for few euros! We went on a boat tour to explore the coast and swam in the Grotte! The owner Jeremy and his agent were so attentive. Even when the fridge in the pool house didn't work , he replaced it the very next day! It was a fantastic holiday! The pool was perfect, even for night swims and with plenty of loungers. The only complaint is that one week is not enough!! There is still so much to do.We must come back!

Casa Castagno is situated in a beautiful countryside location yet only 7 km from the town of Alberobello, a UNESCO site of 1500 + trulli.

Restaurants and coffee bars are plentiful, good quality and very friendly. There are many good shops to explore - ranging from good quality clothes shops through to traditional bakers, butchers etc.

Within 30 minutes drive are many miles of safe, sandy beaches on the Adriatic coast- the best of which are at Capitolo & Torre Canne where the gently shelving beaches make this a very safe place for little ones.

The Grottoes of Castellana are a must to visit. These awe inspiring caves featuring stalactites and stalagmites with underground limestone cavities & long tunnels that branch out 3km in length and 71 metres deep.

The historical and beautiful towns of Locorotondo & Martina Franca are both 15 minutes drive & Ostuni, the white city, can be reached in 40 minutes. Matera, the location for Mel Gibson's film 'The Passion of the Christ', with its sassi (cave houses) is an hour's drive away and a must to visit. Finally Lecce, the stunning Baroque capital of Puglia is about 90 minutes drive and well worth a day out to visit.

Local markets selling wonderful local produce take place in various towns around the area on a daily basis & both Bari and Brindisi can be reached within an hour.

Golf: Although golf is not particularly popular with the local Italians there are some excellent courses within easy reach of Casa Castagno. Even in high season they are easy to book and not busy. In mid and low season you can pretty well turn up and play but it's always wise to check. You can also hire clubs so there's no need to take your own on the plane with you.The 4 closest are:-

1)The San Domenico. A PGA tour course set on the Adriatic coast near Savalettri, 30 minutes drive. This sea is visible from every tee and when the wind blows this excellent course becomes a real test of golf.

2)Riva dei Tessali. A stunning forest course with a charming clubhouse alongside the 18th green to analyse your round over a cooling drink. 50 minutes drive.

3)The Metaponto Golf Course - an 18 hole championship golf course built as a complement to Riva dei Tessali. Metaponto is a course of some 6284 meters, par 72. Boasting an excellent spacious driving range as well as a beautifull renovated Club House (formerly a farmhouse). 50 minutes drive.

4)Bari Alto. Just a few minutes from the city of Bari is the Barialto golf club. The course, created by the American architect William W. Amick and the Italian Giorgio Ferraris, winds for about 6,000 metres between palm trees and centuries old olives, and has five lakes with reeds and water lilies. 40 minutes drive.

Motor boats can be hired in Savalettri, some 30 minutes from the house, either by the day or half day to allow you to explore the Adriatic coast at your leisure.
