Stunning Trullo with Air Conditioning, Large Pool & WiFi

Bedrooms 5
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

5 beds, all air con,5 baths,beautifully restored & furnished, sleeps 12

A beautiful traditional 'trullo' farmhouse, Casa Castagno is located in the picturesque Puglian countryside but the sea & sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast are within 30 minutes drive and the town of Alberobello is a short 10 minute drive away.

The house has been renovated and lovingly restored to a very high standard, preserving the conical roofed trulli unique to Puglia, but incorporating modern design which creates a stylish, spacious interior.

Casa Castagno has a spacious, stunning, fitted kitchen, lounge, five beds (3 en suite), all with air conditioning & five bathrooms - 4 in the main building and 1 in the pool house. Unlike so many renovated trulli which are cramped and dark Casa Castagno's rooms are light and spacious.

The limestone floors that run throughout the house extend to the shaded terrace which is perfect for outside dining or simply lying back in a recliner chair with a good book.

Set in an acre of grounds is the newly built 12 x 6m salt water pool with a large pool terrace for sunbathing and surrounded by fields. There is a large sail shade on the pool terrace when the sun becomes too much or alternatively take the path leading to the shaded area under the chestnut tree; ideal for relaxing with a book or an after lunch snooze.

Special Celebrations: Casa Castagno is an ideal location for that special celebration. A highly experienced local team can provide you with a night to remember. They will set up and clear up. They provide the tables, linen, glasses, chairs, chef, waiters, wine, in fact everything you can think of is on offer leaving you to simply enjoy your special evening.

The terrace area can accommodate 30 guests and the kitchen size, layout and location make catering for this number of people hassle free.

Local minibus taxis can be arranged to deliver and return guests not staying at Casa Castagno from any of the nearby hotels in Alberobello.

See photo for table lay out and appearance.

Local Activities : Beaches

The nearest beaches to Casa Castagno (30 minute drive) are lidos along the Adriatic coast at Capitolo/Torre Carne - long, beautiful sandy beaches, safe for children.

Horse riding, watersports, cycling, and fishing all within 40 mins. Tennis is available in Alberobello.

Health Spa

A health and beauty spa is situated only 5 minutes from the house at the Vicktor Country Hotel.

Local markets

Explore the delights of local markets and stroll around the stalls to savour the freshest fruit, herbs, vegetables and other local produce. Bargains of every kind can be found. Alberobello - Thursday morning; Martina Franca Wednesday morning; Locorotondo -Friday morning; Ostuni -Saturday morning

Other Sights include the caves at Castellana delle Grotte & the Zoo Safari Park

The nearby town of Alberobello: Alberobello (8km - 10 mins drive)

Alberobello is a UNESCO world heritage site because its collection of some 1,500 trulli in an urban environment is unique. The trullo is an architectural feature of Puglia, a dry stone building with a conical roof.

Alberobello is an enchanting, 'fairytale' town with many excellent restaurants featuring local dishes, bars and a 'passegiata' for summer strolling. There are also 'agriturismi' (delicious home grown produce) restaurants outside Alberobello and you can sample local produce in its wonderful market.

Many festivals take place in the summer: folk, classical and modern music; dance and theatre, as well as religious festivals with music performances and fireworks. Alberobello is the centre of an annual pilgrimage to the Basilica dedicated to the martyr saints Cosma and Damiano.

Lovely villa and pool in a relaxing and peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely 2-week stay in this very clean and well equipped villa with its fabulous pool. The location is very rural and peaceful but it is only just over 10 minutes to drive Alberobello. The owners and local agents were very helpful and answered all our queries promptly. There was an excellent recommendations book in the villa with useful information. We would recommend the Segway tours with Francesco and wine from the local co-operative. Overall, we would thoroughly recommend this villa for a large group of people.

Fabulous home in area with fantastic food and wine

  • 5 of 5

9 of us have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Puglia. The house was very well appointed with everything you could need to have a fabulous relaxing break. Particularly enjoyed the lavender and jasmine scents every morning and evening that surround the house. Plenty to do in the surrounding area particularly if you love good food and wine (which we do!!). Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Absolutely Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this gorgeous, really well laid out Trullo in a stunning location. There were 10 of us so the combination of bedrooms, beds and bathrooms was perfect. We put the young adults in the Trullo and parents in the adjoining main barn. It gave everyone a sense of having their own space and the younger ones could swim, play cards and music until late/early morning. In fact 'space' is what struck me most.... the kitchen was huge with wonderfully large table, the outside terrace also had a large table along with small seating areas, the pool was a good size and set a little bit away from the terrace - so everyone could be together or find their own little bit of privacy. We divided our days into relaxing on the terrace or by the pool, then heading out to explore the local area to Alberobello (just over 10 mins drive) and our most frequent destination, Loccorotondo and Martina Franca. We also headed to the coast - Monopoli and Ostuni, all within easy reach. We ate at fabulous local restaurants which were very good value, local food and wine are delicious! We visited the caves, cycled along the aquadotto and particularly enjoyed our segway tour of Alberobello at night (Francesco, who runs it is very well informed and great fun so you will see a very different side to the town). Beautiful place, lovely holiday, magical location - would definitely recommend!

A fantastic week in a peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

I travelled here with my fiancé, her parents and our two children (both under the age of five).

The house was beautiful and more than catered for our needs. The owners (Jeremy and Kate) have carefully considered the needs of their guests, so much so that they provided both a travel cot and high chair for our youngest child.

To see the property on this website does not do it justice. It is set in the most peaceful of surroundings. If only I had the vocabulary to tell you how wonderful the setting is! If you are looking for a relaxing break then I would highly recommend this property. The locally town/village of Alberobello is not too far away but a car is required. The town itself is a must see.

I can say without any hesitation that I will be staying here again. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Beautiful, Tranquil Oasis

  • 5 of 5

Wow. Where do I start. This beautiful home is set in a quiet and peaceful rural location - the perfect oasis to relax and recharge. The pool was really beautiful. The house was fully equipped with absolutely everything needed. There were a large group of us and it was such a pleasure to cook in the kitchen and then sit and dine outside under the stars and eat great food and drink great wine. The little village of Alberobello is only a few mins away and is the prettiest little village with all the trulli shops and I believe its on the UNESCO heritage site.

The house is really spacious with a huge kitchen, living room space , a beautiful bathroom and great size rooms. The outdoor space is perfect and the pool area is even more perfect. Came back from this very special home (and thats exactly how it felt - home from home) feeling totally relaxed and just wanted to stay longer.

Pleasant stay in beautiful trullo

  • 4 of 5

We spent a lovely week in Puglia with my family ( 11 persons, age range 4-70 y.o)

and this house really met all our needs and expectations. House itself was in a middle of countryside and we surely got our own peace that we were looking for from our holiday. We made some life lasting memories around the huge kitchen table while dining there together. And even the youngest ones never got bored, thanks for the swimming pool and good spots to play hide and seek (and yes, also free wifi). Overall everything was well organised from owner side wich made our holiday plans hassle free.

Casa Castagno is situated in a beautiful countryside location yet only 7 km from the town of Alberobello, a UNESCO site of 1500 + trulli.

Restaurants and coffee bars are plentiful, good quality and very friendly. There are many good shops to explore - ranging from good quality clothes shops through to traditional bakers, butchers etc.

Within 30 minutes drive are many miles of safe, sandy beaches on the Adriatic coast- the best of which are at Capitolo & Torre Canne where the gently shelving beaches make this a very safe place for little ones.

The Grottoes of Castellana are a must to visit. These awe inspiring caves featuring stalactites and stalagmites with underground limestone cavities & long tunnels that branch out 3km in length and 71 metres deep.

The historical and beautiful towns of Locorotondo & Martina Franca are both 15 minutes drive & Ostuni, the white city, can be reached in 40 minutes. Matera, the location for Mel Gibson's film 'The Passion of the Christ', with its sassi (cave houses) is an hour's drive away and a must to visit. Finally Lecce, the stunning Baroque capital of Puglia is about 90 minutes drive and well worth a day out to visit.

Local markets selling wonderful local produce take place in various towns around the area on a daily basis & both Bari and Brindisi can be reached within an hour.

Golf: Although golf is not particularly popular with the local Italians there are some excellent courses within easy reach of Casa Castagno. Even in high season they are easy to book and not busy. In mid and low season you can pretty well turn up and play but it's always wise to check. You can also hire clubs so there's no need to take your own on the plane with you.The 4 closest are:-

1)The San Domenico. A PGA tour course set on the Adriatic coast near Savalettri, 30 minutes drive. This sea is visible from every tee and when the wind blows this excellent course becomes a real test of golf.

2)Riva dei Tessali. A stunning forest course with a charming clubhouse alongside the 18th green to analyse your round over a cooling drink. 50 minutes drive.

3)The Metaponto Golf Course - an 18 hole championship golf course built as a complement to Riva dei Tessali. Metaponto is a course of some 6284 meters, par 72. Boasting an excellent spacious driving range as well as a beautifull renovated Club House (formerly a farmhouse). 50 minutes drive.

4)Bari Alto. Just a few minutes from the city of Bari is the Barialto golf club. The course, created by the American architect William W. Amick and the Italian Giorgio Ferraris, winds for about 6,000 metres between palm trees and centuries old olives, and has five lakes with reeds and water lilies. 40 minutes drive.

Motor boats can be hired in Savalettri, some 30 minutes from the house, either by the day or half day to allow you to explore the Adriatic coast at your leisure.
