These two semi-detached holiday cottages are situated approximately 1 mile off the public road up a private track, next to the owners’ home and small working farm in a very quiet, peaceful location, which is ideal for secluded retreats or as a central touring base to explore Dumfries & Galloway. The cottages are similar in style and design and Rose Cottage (ref 28176) is a restored barn conversion consisting of a traditional granite byre with an architect designed larch clad extension featuring a welcoming woodburner. They are located near the Solway Coast and close to the world-class ‘7 Stanes’ mountain bike facility at nearby Dalbeattie, 10 minutes’ drive. Also in the vicinity is the Galloway Forest Park which is one of just a handful of ‘Dark Sky Parks’ in the western world in recognition of spectacular sightings of the starry skies it affords. The region’s capital, Dumfries, is a 25 minute drive, and is known for its links with Robert Burns; visitors may explore his house, sample a dram in Burns’ favourite hostelry - The Globe Inn, or find out more about him at the Robert Burns Centre. Other nearby areas of interest are Colvend Golf Course and Southerness Golf Course, both 10 minutes away. Fishing is also available nearby. Along the coast, discover unspoilt villages, dramatic coastlines, sandy beaches and rocky coves. There is wildlife in abundance with an RSPB Mersehead Nature Reserve nearby. Whitecroft itself has an abundance of wildlife such as roe deer, red squirrels and plentiful birdlife including the majestic red kite. During times of agricultural activity (lambing, shearing and feeding animals) the owners are more than happy for visitors to view or even have a try. This includes feeding and petting our Highland ’Coo’, tame sheep, and even taking our Blacknose Swiss Valais sheep for a walk! This can be arranged during your stay. In addition to being an ideal venue for a traditional spring/summer break, the cottages make for a perfect cosy autumn/winter break. Constructed and insulated to the highest standards with the benefit of a technologically advanced biomass boiler, you can enjoy the added bonus of central heating 365 days a year, meaning whatever the weather you’ll be warm and cosy for no additional cost. Shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.

Rose cottage is an absolute stunning cottage .
This cottage is absolutely beautiful it's warm and cosy under floor heating throughout . Log burner with a large Bascet Fuji l of logs ( we had to switch heating off to use the log burner because we were to hot but couldn't resist using the burner 😊) . Top quality fixtures fittings soft furnitings bed linnen towels etc . The cottage is absolutely spotless . The welcom pack was the best we have had in any Holliday . . The garden is a great size for the family to play ball games and good size patio area . Owners were also lovely helpful and gave us a very warm welcome . We will definitely we be returning ? Beautiful well equipped cottage, warm, cosy and comfortable in the cold weather of autumn.
Beautiful well equipped cottage, warm, cosy and comfortable in the cold weather of autumn. Very helpful owner supplying a lovely welcome basket with a difference, oat cakes, biscuits, jam, taramasalata and ginger beer ! The views to the front of the cottage are great, hubby took great interest in the cattle that came and went from this field. Although there were no shops locally there is a good selection in Dalbeattie some 4 miles away. As well as very beautiful walks the area has other attractions including NT properties within 20 miles or so. The place was so peaceful, could have stayed forever !
