Very homely, comfortable accommodation including 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms

Close to the village centre yet in a quiet courtyard, this comfortable and spacious property is part of a converted barn which has been carefully restored. It is situated at 1250 metres on the high Cerdagne plateau which has a wonderful dry and sunny climate with an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. With views from the kitchen and balcony over the picturesque courtyard to the Sierra de Cadi mountain range in the distance in Spain and nearby to the magnificent vast Osseja forest, the property is at the heart of an area which offers walkers, skiers, cyclists and nature lovers a wide range of possibilities. The apartment, which comfortably sleeps up to 7 people, has a brand new kitchen, a living room with a double sofa-bed, a sunny, south-west facing balcony, one double bedroom, 2 further twin/double bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers and a separate WC. All rooms have excellent storage/fitted wardrobes. Facilities include a washer-drier, dishwasher, LCD TV and stereo Hi-Fi.

Skiing: Excellent skiing facilities within easy driving distance to cater for all levels of ability.

About Philip Groves

I have a French mother, was born in Jersey and from an early age went on holiday to France. While on a career break teaching English in Barcelona, I discovered this beautiful part of the Pyrenees and I have often returned since to hike in the mountains.

While I still work in London, it is a fantastic thing to be able to reach this part of the Pyrenees for a long weekend or week away.

This is away from it all but still part of a village community with a wonderful dry sunlit climate.

Why Philip Groves chose Cerdagne

Osseja is the sunniest village of this area and is sufficiently large to have its own community and amenities as an all year round village. It is not on a main road which makes it a haven close to the mountains. It feels like going back in time.

300 days of sunshine, a wonderful Catalan cuisine, fantastic air quality and a wonderful variety of low, mid and high mountain settings and landscapes, including a large forest, a real break from it all!

With around 300 days of sunshine a year, very low pollution levels and an extraordinary luminous quality to the Mediterranean light, the Cerdagne can be enjoyed at any time of the year for outdoor sporting activities, especially walking and skiing, relaxation or historic and cultural visits on both sides of the border. Osseja is a working year round village full of life with several shops and facilities, including bakeries, restaurants, bars, a cinema and tourist office. It is renowned for its healthy climate and tranquil setting. Osseja has a train station served by the 'little yellow mountain train'. In Winter there is excellent skiing at all varying levels of difficulty, including 8 ski resorts on the French side of the Cerdagne alone, comprising 174 miles of piste accessible on one lift pass all within easy driving distance. In Summer, walks, festivals and many activities for youngsters are available and there is a large heated open air pool in one of the nearby villages.

  • Double sofa bed in the living room. Each bedroom has ample storage space, and bedside tables/cabinets with reading lights. All the rooms have been recently completely and tastefully redecorated including framed pictures of the local area and other framed artistic prints. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are normally at comfortable temperature due to the thick walls which keep out the cold in the Winter and keep out the heat in the Summer.

As the apartment is on the first floor, it is necessary to climb one set of stairs. The apartment is equipped as if for people living there all year round so it really has everything or almost everything that one might need; if in doubt please ask. The owner knows the area extremely well and has been visiting it for the past twenty years. He is very happy to share advice on the many things to do and see.
