Welcome to East Rosebud Lake, one of the most unique and picturesque settings in the Rocky Mountains. Nestled in a classic glacially carved valley at an elevation of 6206 feet, East Rosebud Lake is rimmed with sixty cabins forming the historic private town of Alpine, Montana. This 108-acre lakeshore community, managed by the East Rosebud Lake Association, is surrounded by forest service land. Awesome peaks of the Beartooth Range, rise from the lake to elevations over 10,000 feet and Granite Peak, the highest point in Montana, is just beyond the horizon. Three separate forest service trails originating near the lake lead to Red Lodge, Cooke City and Mystic Lake. East Rosebud Lake is located approximately 45 miles south of Columbus Montana, and 35 miles west of Red Lodge, Montana. The final 14 miles to the lake from Roscoe, Montana, consists of both paved and well maintained yet rugged unpaved roadway sections. The nearest airport in Billings is approximately 2 hours by car.

This lakefront log cabin at #48 Alpine Road, built in 1997, is a perfect abode for relaxation and staging adventures from mild to wild. The main living areas and covered wrap-around deck offer stunning lake and mountain views. The cabin has oak flooring with two bedrooms, a spacious loft and one bathroom with a large claw foot tub/shower. The downstairs bedrooms each have hand carved log frame queen beds and the loft has one queen bed.

East Rosebud Lake Association is under the direct supervision of a resident manager. A limited stock of groceries is available for purchase at the Association store during the summer months (Memorial Day to Labor Day), however it is recommended that you purchase your groceries in Billings, Absarokee or Red Lodge before arriving at the lake.

Rental of this cabin is contingent on awareness of and adherence to the following East Rosebud Lake Association (ERLA) rules:

1. Make sure to arrive at the lake during daylight hours and stop by managers cabin to announce your arrival. If arrival is at off hours proceed directly to the cabin and visit the manager the next day.

2. No large motor homes or trailers are allowed to be parked on ERLA property. Motor homes can be parked in areas just outside of ERLA property.

3. Use of fireworks and firearms are not permitted.

4. No hunting or trapping is allowed.

5. No horses are allowed.

6. No outside fires allowed.

7. No jet skis allowed on East Rosebud Lake.

8. Boat launching from trailers is allowed only at footbridge near outlet of the lake.

9. No garbage storage allowed outside of cabins. Bagged garbage must be hauled from cabin directly to metal bear proof bins located in front of the manager’s cabin.

10. Close chain gates across roadways each time they are used, maintain a slow driving speed on Association roads and no off road driving allowed on Association property.

We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to be in the middle of absolute "Bliss"!

  • 5 of 5

August 2018

We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to share the Bridenbaugh’s cabin in the middle of absolute alpine “Bliss”.

We have been blessed with being at East Rosebud Lake ~Alpine~ Montana for a little under 2 weeks & continue to marvel at the beauty and life it shares with us, each & every day.

To date, we have had 4 moose sightings: 1 enroute to Elk Lake on day 1; the 2nd sighting took place just sitting on the front porch, looking out at the lake and seeing a moving object in the lake. OMG! It is a Bull Moose swimming in the lake and making land at approximately 11:00 from the front porch! The 3rd sighting took place July 31, as Geoff saw in the distance, across the lake, two moving objects … with clarity & binoculars, we saw a cow Moose and her baby! The 4th sighting was a close encounter by Geoff as he fished East Rosebud Creek the day before our departure. A cow moose had settled down for the evening under a tree just 10 feet away from where he walked!

Great Blue Herons were sighted multiple times. River otters slapped the lake to claim their territory as we fished in their “turf” on East Rosebud Lake.

Caught, released and ate many trout: Rainbow; Cutthroat, Brown; and Brook. A few snakes, chipmunks, multiple species of sparrows maneuvering through the air & sky with amazing skill & grace, hummingbirds that are within inches of your face & several awesome thunder and lightning storms that brought rain & wind to cool off the summer air!

A trip to the Grizzly Bar in Roscoe for dinner the night before last, did not disappoint!

Bill & Deanna have been guests/visitors to East Rosebud Lake for 27 years! This is their 5th visit & they still continue to be “Awed” by the beauty & splendor of this little slice of heaven on earth!

Enjoy every last second you have here, as each moment is sacred. Hike, Bike, Fish, Read, Sleep & Eat to your heart’s desire.

Should you be here on a Friday-Sunday, make the visit to Tippet Rise Art Center outside Fishtail! It is amazing and worth the visit.

It is sad to say “adios” to this familiar & beloved place … but …. Someone else, such as you, need to come by … so, room is made for your arrival.

With smiles on our faces & calm in our hearts, we wish you the best! Deanna, Bill, Bannin and Geoff

Perfect location, setting is beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

You can't beat the location on the East Rosebud Lake! The cabin is ideally situated next to the lake for easy access to fly fishing and scenic hiking trails. We stayed over the 4th of July and had a great time at the cabin and in nearby Red Lodge. The cabin is very comfortable for 2 couples. Very clean and has all of the necessary amenities. This was our second visit and we will be sure to stay again in the future!

Our stay here at East Rosebud Lake us perfect - again! This cabin is in a beautiful location and it situated in a perfect spot on the lake. And the cabin itself is really flawless - great infrastructure (heat, water, plumbing) for a completely no hassle experience. Owners are responsive and great to work with as well.

Great stay, clean, cozy and warm cabin stocked with an eclectic library, complete kitchen stocked with every kind of cooking item one can think of. Views are outstanding and the cabin is in close proximity to the beaten path trail that terminates 26 miles away in Cooke City. Loved staying there.

Well Appointed Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Everything you need for a wonderful mountain vacation. The little store has the extra necessities you may forget, but suggest major shopping in Columbus or Red Lodge before arriving. Lunch or Dinner at the Grizzly Bar in Roscoe on your way in or out is a fun experience too. Also, don't forget your fishing license!
