The villa sits on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with panoramic views of the sea. It has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. The whole side of the villa, facing the sea, was opened up with glass panels and large sliding glass doors to make the most of the stunning ocean views. The spacious open plan living area on the ground floor includes a large kitchen/dining room and a generous and comfortable lounge with limitless views of the sea. The1st floor includes 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The en-suite master bedroom with a large secluded terrace offers panoramic views of the sea. The ground floor bedroom opens to a courtyard filled with bougainvillea and other flowering plants. It's adjoining bathroom offers superb sea views. The 2 bedrooms, bathroom and 2nd lounge and bar on pool level, open to a covered terrace leading to the ocean front 5x10 mtrs pool. There are several terraces, all with dining furniture making the use of the poolside BBQ ideal for alfresco dining.

Pedra do Ouro is a small friendly beach village. It has wide sandy beaches that go on for miles and there are beautiful treks along the coast, on the beach or along pedestrian walkways. There are special cycling and rollerblading routes along the coast and many other sporting facilities. There are several surf schools nearby. This is the location were just recently the worlds no. 1 surfer rode the largest wave in the world on the North Beach in Nazare a traditional fishing village only 10km south. Nazaré is a must to visit and offers many very good restaurants. Nearby there is wonderful Obidos and its walled castle and medieval town. The whole region is steeped in history including the cathedral in Batalha, Monastery in Alcobaca and the Leiria Fatima region. Nearby there is also the thermal waters of Monte Real. There are several wine routes in the area and for the serious shoppers Leiria has everything. Our neighbouring villages, Sao Pedro and Paredes have excellent seafood restaurants, several bars and lovely beaches. Pedra do Ouro itself hosts a beach bar, a local pub and a couple of traditional Portuguese restaurants, it's local hotel has recently reopened and also offers bar and restaurant service. We would like to make a special mention of the fabulous food and wine in Portugal and still att affordable prices.

About Kerstin Ever

We are a large, cosmopolitan family ranging in age from baby to senior citizen. We all meet up at the villa whenever possible, with family members arriving from Australia, the USA as well as more nearby UK and Sweden. My husband and myself have our main home in London and our family is a good mixture of Swedish, Estonian, Brazilian, English, American and Australian!

Kerstin Ever purchased this villa in 2005

Why Kerstin Ever chose Pedra do Ouro

After having visited this area several times a year over a long period of time in business, we decided we definitely wanted to be a more permanent part of life here. We love the outdoors and the sea and it couldn't be better than this! Although a tiny village, the social life is hectic with lunches, dinners, festivals, outings to the most wonderful historic sites, wine yards to visit, you name it! The language is easy for me as I am fluent in Portuguese. Our other family members who are not have had no problem in communicating with the local population. The Portuguese are very helpful and friendly and will always have encouraging words to say to someone struggling with a dictionary. I have to mention the lovely fish and seafood and the gorgeous wines, still at very affordable prices.

What makes this villa unique

It sits in a unique setting, with a splendid view of the Atlantic Ocean, totally uninterrupted. The sea is always changing and it is mesmerising looking at it, in calm and stormy weather.

The large furnished terraces all around the villa, makes outdoor dining easy and comfortable any time, again with spectacular views. The spaciousness and layout of the villa makes it easy to accommodate 10 guests which must be a unique benefit!

The villa has always worked marvellously for us and as the villa is in use most of the year, as there always seems to be someone visiting, we have made sure that it has everything that makes life easier. Such as excellent internet, cable TV, full functioning kitchen with all kinds of appliances, etc. We also hope you will like the interior decoration which is contemporary and classy.

The outdoor unique benefits are of course the wide, long sandy beaches which go on for km after km and all the sporting facilities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in this idyllic villa ! None of us wanted to leave, I can't praise it highly enough. The description doesn't do it justice - it's even better. It is fabulously light, airy, comfortable and modern, with fantastic sea views almost everywhere.

The villa was spotlessly clean and very well equipped, we had everything ( and more) that we needed. We made full use of the equipment including tennis rackets ( tennis court literally across the road) and used the bikes to enjoy the safe cycle routes along the coast......when we could tear the kids away from the pool!

Kerstin provided excellent customer service, both before and during the holiday, a minor TV query was resolved immediately; we could not have asked for more.

When we weren't enjoying the evening sunshine and BBQ'ing on the terrace, we enjoyed some great meals in the local restaurants.

This spacious villa, with it's various sitting / living areas ( outside and inside) really suits families or groups - I can't recommend it highly enough.

Beautiful house, fantastic sea view.

  • 5 of 5

We went in June (eight of us) and the weather was terrible, rain and cold. We couldn't really use the pool, except for a few brave souls. The weather improved later in the week, and we spent a lot of our time sitting in the sun gazing at the sea -- really beautiful.

The main thing about the house is the great view of the sea; a pretty much 180 degree unobstructed view. The house is up on a bluff, and there's no direct route down to the beach; it's maybe a ten-minute walk.

The house itself is fine; white tile and glass, attractive and solidly made. The bathrooms are large, and everything worked (including the heating when they turned it on). The kitchen was particularly well equipped. They seem to have tried hard to provide everything we might need. And I was impressed with how responsive they were to our requests.

A couple of little things needed fixing: one of the hammocks had so many snapped strings we were scared to use it (but the other hammock was fine); one of the sliding glass doors on to the balcony was coming apart (but they are getting it fixed); at least one of the bicycles needed servicing.

The house is on the edge of a development, which we didn't realize until we arrived; but that wasn't a problem. Yes, we'd happily go back, ideally with better weather.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay despite the weather. The weather has been awful all through southern Europe and northern Africa for quite some time, not at all as it is usually. Wish I had had a magic wand. The hammock has been changed, the sliding door is fixed. I guess there will always be something going a bit wrong in a big house, but we do try to fix it as soon as possible. The bikes are a different story. They are serviced before the villa is let, but we seldom hear if they are faulty, although anything can happen, so thank you for letting us know, it will be fixed. We advertise 4 bikes but there are 5 in case one goes faulty :)

Ein Traum am Atlantik

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a 2 week stay in this beautiful and large villa.

It was so spacious that you could stay together as a group or find an area to just relax, as there were many seating and dining areas.

We went as a family group as 5 adults and 5 children and the kids loved the pool and the downstairs area to keep out of the sun for a while with their I pads etc., but close enough so we could see the younger ones and still be sunbathing.

We had plenty of bathrooms so it was not a queue for the shower at the end of the day.

We loved the view just watching the waves rolling in and the sun setting in the evening.

There is some good restaurants and bars in walking distance. We loved the little shop with a café attached and me and my husband used to have a coffee and pastel de nata for our morning treat.

Very easy to get to Lisbon or Porto for a day or overnight visit and other smaller places are very nearby and well worth a visit.

I have never been in such a well equipped villa, you can tell it is a family home and not just a holiday let.

My daughter loved the piano and kept us entertained too!

A week in a very nice house....

  • 4 of 5

we stayed in this lovely place for a whole week, and we really were surprised, how spacious it was. 6 comfortable bedrooms with warm enough douvets made us all sleep really well.

the necessary "small stuff", that other houses did not supply we found ready to use: candles, toiletpaper, cleenex, coffee capsules to survive the first morning, spices, lots of glasses, dishes and even a plastic version to take poolside.

10 loungers with cushions also were available.

the sunbrellas maybe were not in such a good condition, and I do not know, how 10 people can find shadow poolside, when it is really hot.

But everything else was perfect.

the pool had not only a good size but also a good temperature.

from the frontside, we had a beautiful view on the atlantic, that could be reached after a short walk or drive.

the houses around were all not in use, and although it was the last week of june, no other tourists were around. we did not understand why.

all in all it was a lovely place, that we can surely recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay and the house! We strive to ensure that our guests have the best possible time and as comfortable as possible. We are checking that the umbrellas are functioning properly. There are two large sun umbrellas for the pool and terrace areas and there are also 3 smaller that can be taken to the beach. The covered terraces should also provide shade if necessary be.

Villa holiday at its best

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this lovely house. Situated right besides the ocean with breathtaking views. Plenty of room for a group of 10 and the pool was great, especially for the kids. You can lay back, relax and soak up the sun or drive around. The owner has made a great overview of the surrounding places, restaurants, shops and other activities with really good and helpful suggestions. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience and would definitely come back for a holiday. A big thank you for everything.

The beach in Pedra do Ouro is right in front of our house with fishermans trails running down to the sandy beach. The main route to the beach is approximately 400 meters, 7 minutes walk, or a minute car ride. There is a genuine family run bar and restaurant, serving light meals, on the beach as well as beach volley, changing and other facilities. There is a local pub and a couple of good restaurants just around the corner from the villa as well as a convenience store. Pedra do Ouro is linked by cycling/roller-blading, by car or by walking along specially built pedestrain walkways with neighbouring Sao Pedro de Moel 4km north and Paredes 3km south. Alternatively, the wide sandy beach connects the villages and also makes a lovely walk! Here are a number of excellent seafood restaurants, bars, minimarkets, pharmacy ATM and very popular surf schools. A lilltle further away you have, Nazare, Marinha Grande and Leiria the regions capital, with fresh food markets, large supermarkets, restaurants, bars and vast varied shopping on offer. The Silver Coast is rich in archeologi from pre-historic caves to Moorish castles and Roman villages, offering a spectacular choice of sight-seeing. Portugal has 13 locations classified by UNESCO as World Heritage sites, several in this area. Among others - Tomar, Convent of Christ founded in 1163, the Monastery of Alcobaca, the beautiful cathedral in Batalha and the walled medieval town of Obidos. Natur plays a big roll in this area, with its protected pine forrests, and of course it's spectacular wide sandy beaches that just go on for miles and miles.
