A spacious apartment ideal for families close to beach and village

Bedrooms 3
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

Minimum Stay
2 nights

About the property

Sleeps upto 8 or 10 at a push. There is no pool but the beach is very close.

Apartment St.Nikolaos View provides flexible accommodation for a family or friends with 3 separate areas of accommodation within the one apartment. Ideal for mutual independence.

Kea has all the advantages of a remote Greek island but is only a short transfer from Athens airport consisting of a 30 min taxi ride to the port of Lavrio, which is situated at the end of the Attica Peninsular not far from the temple at Cape Sounion, followed by a 1 hour ferry ride to the island.

Kea is a hidden delight. There are few hotels but many beautiful beaches and excellent, reasonably priced restaurants.

This is not a pure 'rental' house. It is very much our own house that we live in for part of the year ourselves and just let it out to help pay for the upkeep. Accordingly it is extremely comfortably furnished and well decorated.

Apartment St.Nikolaos view is ideally placed to provide a relaxing holiday for all. Being so close to both the beach and rocks for swimming and the delightful port of Vourkari, all the guests can 'do their own thing' without the need of being driven around or lengthy walks.

Kea is the hidden jewel of the Cyclades. As there are so few hotels, most of the people there are either local families or Athenian Greeks with summer houses.

The delightful safe haven of Vourkari attracts yachts of all shapes and sizes giving it a cosmopolitan but relaxed feel. There are a good number of restaurants and tavernas around the Bay of Vourkari as well as a plentiful supply of local produce to cook at home in the well equipped kitchen. If you need anything just ask us upstairs!

The apartment is ideal for a group of families although equally comfortable for a group of adults. However its lay out and location really make it ideal for 2 family groups of varying sizes with kids generally mucking in together leaving their parents to the best rooms! The area around the house is safe as the road behind is cul-de-sac and ideal for boys (and girls) to expend some energy kicking around a football. The neighbours are all friendly and usually our guest's children overcome the language barrier with the local children - although the Greek children's English tends to be better than that of their parents!

Included in the price is a full clean and sheet/towel change mid 2 week stay and a final clear up after you leave. However if you would like a daily or more regular visit from the cleaner this can also be arranged at a small extra cost. Our extremely trustworthy cleaner will also arrange babysitting . Anything is possible - just ask us if we are there or Stavros (our manager who built the house)!

The house is very much geared up for children of all ages. There is a TV inc a home cinema system. Also we have 2 wifi systems to ensure that those who cannot be torn away from their smartphones have free access to the internet. Stairs from the parking area lead down to this 3/4 bedroom apartment with a fully equipped kitchen (tho no dishwasher) and private veranda + access to utility room with washer/dryer which is shared with us in the main part of the house above... In addition there is a further large guest room with large flat screen tv with a comfortable double sofabed. All bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and fans.

It's locality, within walking distance of the very safe Gialiskari Beach with a small beach bar for light lunches and drinks as well as the fishing port of Vourkari's restaurants and bars which are open til the early hours in season, also make it the ideal safe destination for those with teenagers who may want to spend some time out without their parents also without the parents acting as taxi driver!

The island has plenty of other beaches, most of which are accessible by car. Otzias beach in the north - a 10 minute drive away - is a favourite of our guests. The beach taverna has particularly good reviews. We will leave details of the best beaches in the house book, particularly the sheltered ones in case the warm Meltemi blows from the north. There are some lovely walks in the interior of the island and a trip to the beaches of Koundouros, where there are nice beaches and water sports - ski boat, windsurfers, do'nut, canoes etc., at the other end of the island and is a nice day trip.

It is possible to not have a car as the airport to Lavrio is only a Euro 40-45 ride or, if you have time a much cheaper bus ride is fun and there are plentiful taxis on the island, not to mention the buses that regularly ply the route between Chora and Otzias (in the north of the island - has a nice sandy beach) via the port and Vourkari. However a car per family is advisable and remains the best way to get from the airport to Kea taking the car on the ferry - approx Euro 45 each way and Euro 12 per person. Parking is available behind the property or down on the road below.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from in both the port (Limani) and Vourkari without ever being cajoled by pushy front men prevalent in most other islands. We will leave details of the best restaurants all over the island. Booking is rarely necessary apart from mid summer week-ends.

The interior of the island is ideal for hiking and the 1 hour trek down to the ancient temple site of Karthea on the other side of the island is an interesting excursion.

We will of course consider a discounted rate for smaller groups and for longer periods. If you need a longer stay or intend to do some work or even write a book, or just need somewhere quiet for a period of studying (we have full wifi coverage), the tranquility and the view all year round is inspiring.

About Nick Hubband and Nicky Malliaros

We live partly in UK and partly on the beautiful island of Kea so this is very much a family house and equipped to a very high standard. It is not a typical rental property. Nicky's family have owned the plot for many years and the house was rebuilt by Nicky's structural engineer step father in 2008-9 to his and our very high standards. Picture taken while walking from Chora to Otzias...a great walk if a bit warm!

Why Nick Hubband and Nicky Malliaros chose Greece

The main feature of our house is its covenience for the beach and the village of Vourkari as well as, of course, the view of the bay.

most wonderful house with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Nick and Nicky house is simply perfect, our family of six enjoyed it's comfortable well designed accommodation, especially the dinning and terrace areas with stunning views across the bay.

The location is very convenient with a short walk to a small marina with a few small shops and bars.

The swimming is exceptional with a choice from the rocks just two minutes walk or a beautiful quiet beach within an easy ten minute walk.

We hired a car which isn't essential but made exploring Kea and it's hidden treasures possible.

We would definitely recommend this perfect house to anyone looking to relax and enjoy Kea.

Fabulous island, perfect villa, and great people!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancee and me searched tirelessly for the perfect destination where our family and friends from the US and the UK could join us to celebrate our wedding. One look at Nick and Nicky's beautiful home nestled on hill just above the crystal-clear, blue/green waters of the warm Aegean sea, and we knew we had found the ideal location. Nick and Nicky went out of their way to research and answer our countless questions and even helped us in coordinating our reception. They are a true reflection of what the people on the island of Kea are like. Warm, hospitable, fun-loving and inviting are only a few of their many genuine characteristics. We even invited the house manager, Stavros, and his family to our wedding ceremony and the reception! They were fantastic during our entire stay and politely kept their laughter at a minimum as they tried to teach us a few Greek dances at the reception.

The villa has every amenity you could possibly need and you are literally only a five-minute walk to a lovely beach. There are many other beaches to visit on the island as well as the chora (capital city) and, of course, ancient ruins. The harbor view from virtually every vantage point in the villa is stunning but should you need to pry yourself from the cozy cushions on the terrace sofa you'll find that the inside of the villa is equally as beautiful. Marvelous architecture and impressive craftmanship meld seamlessy with a tasteful decor of classic furniture, unique and interesting fixtures and gorgeous artwork.

Suffice to say, if you are looking for the perfect vacation destination where the tourists are limited but where beauty, hospitality and enjoyment are not, then Nick and Nicky's is the place!

The Greek Islands hidden secret!!!

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful relaxed stay which with 8 teenagers/ students says a lot for the layout of the house. The kitchen was professionally equipped which made life very easy and the dining terrace gave a lovely shaded area to eat while overlooking the sea.

Nick and Nicky gave us a great briefing as to best beaches and restaurants to visit which proved a big plus for all especially the Water skiing beach which also had a great restaurant around the cove. The locals could not have been more helpful and very welcoming to the extent that IT made us feel very special. We normally take a house with a pool but this was not missed with the beach only a short stroll away and we visited a number of other beaches a short car journey away. A great holiday and we all look forward to coming again. Charles Nelson

Simply stunning - Greek perfection

  • 5 of 5

Kea is a perfect holiday location for us - not hard to get to, but not so easy that package tourism has taken over. Virtually no tourists, but plenty of simple tavernas and unspoilt beaches with crystal clear water

The house has a simply stunning panoramic view across the bay, and it is superbly equipped with high quality furnishings and appliances. Beautifully and simply decorated too, and immaculately clean. Bathrooms and kitchen are of a very high quality and plenty of hot water.

Within 400m walk is a lovely beach, and Otzias beach 3.5km away is a gorgeous crescent of sand with a lovely taverna where we ate every day. The Vourkari quayside is also only 400m from the house with a lovely row of tavernas, each as good as their neighbour.

Further afield, the island capital is beautiful, and there are dozens of remote beaches varying from easy to access, to those that need a boat or 4x4.

For us it was perfect week of relaxation, sun, swimming and lovely simple food, with the best view of any holiday ever. Thanks!

A magical place

  • 4 of 5

This was my second time in Kea having visited the previous year and it was chance to check the acuracy of my memories Translucent sea - check, quaint and pretty harbour - check, exquisite sunsets from the terrace of our holiday home - check. Yes, it was all in place. The house is in a fabulous setting with unparalleled views across the bay to mainland Greece. As the day passed, the light would change as it bounced off the water so the view was always changing shape and colour but was always whatever time of day utterly magical and capitavating.

Swimming was excellent a small beach just 5 minites walk adn many other more spacious and impressive beaches dotted around the island. Eating out was well provided for with numerous small bars and restaurants but the house was so well- equipped with sizaeble kitchen and built in barbeque area on the expansive terrace there was often little need to eat out.

The house itself is clean and beautifully decorated in a a relaxed beach house meets Elle decoration style. It is spacious and practical and so welcoming that you can happily spend whole days reading on a shady terrace or napping in a cool bedroom.

We - a family of two adults and one 11 year old child - would have no hesitation in recommending both the island and the house to anyone who fanices an unpressurised break in lovely surroundings just one hour by ferry from Greece but another world away.

Greek Island Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this fabulous villa in August 2011. We were 4 families, 9 adults and 8 children by night and by day we we're joined by another family. We found the house to be very spacious & comfortable. It was in excellent decorative order and very stylish. It was fully equipped with all the usual mod cons and despite there being so many of us all our needs were met. There were more than enough fridges & freezers, ample cutlery, crockery, pots, pans & glassware. In fact, it was a pleasure to cook & eat there. We loved having the two main kitchens, inside and out and a choice of three separate dining areas in the main house. The house, in all areas, was spotless and bug free.

The pictures of the house are good but don't quite convey just how spectacular & impressive the views are. Evenings spent watching the sun set behind the lighthouse across the bay will be unforgettable.

My family stayed in the ground floor studio apartment. We had a double bed, a travel cot and a single day chair/ fold out bed. All were very comfortable & of good quality as were the pillows and bedding. We had a private balcony & and a separate terrace with a small table & chairs. Every detail seemed to have been well considered. I was particulary impressed by the completely silent fridge. The kitchenette was perfect for making breakfasts, snacks and light suppers. Main meals would be best made in the main house or taken out.

The location of the villa was perfect. It was very peaceful at night and yet only a five minute walk to the nearest port where there are some lovely boutiques , restaurants, convenience stores and bars. The night life was good, in a very civilised way, and the bars stayed open past 3 am. We didn't really spot many tourists; it was mostly Greeks everywhere we went. A five minute walk in the other direction and you're on the beach. We spent most of our days here. It was a compact family size with plenty of shading available a good open bar/ taverna perfect for cold drinks and a tasty lunch. A further 20 minutes walk and you reach the main port. Here you will find an even bigger selection of restaurants & cafes, as well as a fabulous baker, butcher, and several stores & supermarkets & banks. Both ports had cashpoint machines.

We would happily recommend this villa to friends and family and very much hope to return soon.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay last year and hope that you will return again soon. As we use the property ourselves in the off season we have ensured that all the facilities are up to our exacting standards - particularly for cooking! As a result our guests of course get the advantage of this as opposed to properties that are only let. Thanks again for finding the time to send a review. Nick and Nicky

This spacious apartment is set in a prime position below our house and just an easy downhill 5 minute walk from both the idyllic fishing village of Vourkari, where the main restaurants and bars are to be found, and the sandy beach of Gialiskari with its clear translucent waters (see picture from above the beach). It is ideas for 6 but can handle 8. Or it can be a delightful retreat for just a couple or a small family for a 'get away from it all' week or so. Apartment St.Nikolaos View is a tranquil family friendly haven with easy access to both village life and the sea. In addition to the beach, there is delightful swimming from the rocks immediately below the property. The view from the property is good, although through houses, with the lighthouse of St.Nikolaos, the Patron Saint of Mariners, being the focal point. The main town/port of Korissia is only 2km away where all the local amenities, supermarket, butchers, fishmonger, baker, banks etc. are situated. The picturesque island capital of Ioulis or locally known as Chora is about 8km away at the top of the mountains overlooking the bay. For small numbers we will discount in all but the peak summer season. Note we also have a lovely separate double room on the floor above with two balconies and stunning views that we let separately through airbnb...search on www.airbnb.com , put in Kea and look for "Room overlooking bay sleeps upto 3"
