About marijke torfs
We are committed to natural building, learning and creating with others. The house was build over several years by expert local craftsmen guided by our super creative architect, Sigi Koko. The buildings were built with straw bale insulation and hand covered with clay from our farm's soil, and lime plasters hydrated on the farm. We used large old beams, wood siding, and brick salvaged from a nearby barn, and restored vintage furniture to fill our many rooms. Sigi Koko led or co-led eight natural building workshops over three years on everything from building with straw bales to mixing and applying natural plasters. People from all over the country spent weekends learning to "stitch" and stack straw bale walls; mix clay, straw, and sand for plasters; and build our frog clay oven. Our eight geothermal wells, super insulated walls, high-efficiency HVAC, and plans for solar and wind make the house super energy efficient.

Why marijke torfs chose Sabillasville
If you're looking for a summer vacation spot, come escape the sweltering city heat with mountain breezes and cool nights, and eat the valley's fresh fruits and vegetables. In the fall, Harbaugh Valley explodes with autumn colors, as does nearby Catoctin National Park -- perfect for biking or hiking. Sled or cross-country ski in the winter or take a short trip to nearby Liberty Mountain Ski Resort, then cozy up by our Vermont iron cast wood stoves with a cup of hot cocoa. In the spring, it all starts over again: our ewes lamb, farmers plant their fields, and the valley turns green and lush.

Zigbone Farm retreat is a fabulous property.
My husband and I booked Zigbone for a our son's rehearsal dinner. We stayed for three glorious nights.
Lynn the property manager was so accommodating. She was helpful in every way. The house was large enough to comfortably accommodate all of the groomsmen in the bridal party in addition to a few extra guests. 25 people total and it never felt crowded. Beds were super comfortable. And layout of the house was perfect. Plenty of space for morning coffee on the front porch. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for serving various meals throughout the weekend.
We hosted the rehearsal dinner for 42 guests and there was plenty of extra space for everyone to feel comfortable. My son's only request when we were looking for a location for our party was that he wanted it to feel like home. Zigbone fit the bill in every way possible.
It is the perfect blend of classy yet cozy.
After all of the guests left on Saturday, my husband daughter and I fired up the pizza oven and had a wonderful and relaxing dinner on the back patio.
We even had a chance to feed the goats in the barnyard.
Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay!! Can't wait to return!!
A terrific time at Zigbone!
We had a wonderful time at our family reunion. The weather was perfect, the lodge was everything promised! The combination of rustic and elegant is charming. It was a great weekend where we reconnected with family and made new memories. The next generation of our family continues to grow and I hope we continue this tradition for a long time. The Zigbone Farm Retreat is a place where we could all spread out. Some liked to read in a quiet place, others played softball on the lawn and some of us wanted to gather and gab. The kitchen is well laid out and has everything we needed. We could cook together (which we like to do) and eat together (which we LOVE to do). I am not sure what next year will bring, but I hope we are welcomed back!! Janine
Nice place, would stay again
Both the owner and the manager came by to say hi and ask if we needed anything. Nice house. Nice property/outdoor space. Great for a large group getaway.
Wonderful Christmas Family Reunion!
Our family is growing, so we had to move our annual get together to another location. Wow, we were so thrilled with Zigbone Farm. Such a comfortable, beautiful place. We've already booked for next year. Thanks for your hospitality.
Family Get Away
My family gathered at the Zigbone Farm Retreat for our Family Christmas. It was a great time. We had plenty of room to spread out and each family had their own bedroom. Duke and Lynn were very helpful with answering questions we had. The kids loved going to the fence to see the sheep and goats. They also loved ringing the bell. We hope to return one of these days. The wood fire place was especially appreciated. It was down right cold outside that weekend.

Beautiful home with amazing views
Our group of 16 adults and children had a wonderful weekend at Zigbone Farm. There was plenty of space and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking. The art and decorations in every nook make the space feel warm and welcoming. Upon arrival the wifi was down, which was a problem, as many people in our group were dependent on it for school and work projects, but the care takers Duke and Linda were helpful in getting it restored. One note I would make is that the king size beds are made up of two twin mattresses which was not especially comfortable. The beds themselves are great, but would have been better if there wasn't a gap where the mattresses joined. It would be preferable to sleep on one mattress, even if it had to be downsized to a queen size. We absolutely enjoyed sitting on the decks and chatting, and had fires in the fire pit every night. Personally, my favorite part of our stay was the opportunity to see the animals of the farm. We spent lots of time with the goats and sheep and the kids loved feeding them leaves from a nearby tree. There is a park nearby with a lake for swimming and waterfalls-make sure to see it during your stay. Thanks for a great trip, Zigbone Farm!
Thank you for the constructive feedback. We apologize for the wifi issues. We have talked to the company to ensure this never happens again. We will take your comments into account as we continue to improve our services. You were wonderful guests and we hope to see you again!
