My French trip

  • 5 of 5

Every now and again I have the urge to go and sample some of France's fine wines, and the Loire valley has some very fine wines. The wine caves are in easy driving distance and you get to see spectacular views of the Loire river along the way along with plenty of rural countryside.

The accomodation was a barn conversion which has been tastefully restored with new fixtures along with some of the old, I really liked the 'A' frame wooden beam and the thick local slate walls. The property was clean and well maintained and set in the middle of a corn field although I'm told next year it might be wheat, you can smell that fresh countryside air in a peaceful setting. Being of a rural location I was amazed with the (stars) sky at night, you just don't get those night time views in the UK, well atleast not where I live. All the facilities I need were there.

George and Anne-Francoise were both fantaistic, George is English and Anne-Francoise French bilingual so language was never an issue if I needed something or find something out about the surrounding area. I nearly forgot they have 3 wonderful children, I almost missed them out as you wouldn't realise that they were there. Anne-Francoise even cooked a chicken dish for me one night and even supplied me with some French recipes.

Personally I have recommended it to 2 of my relatives who have both since visited and share the same views as myself, and I plan revisiting again sometime soon.

Angers is the nearest town with plenty of shops, cafe bars and restaurants, but found the beer a little too expensive. You can't have everything.

Our French Getaway

Our French getaway

Review Submitted: April 6, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2010

Last year we spent a wonderful relaxing holiday in Maine-et- Loire in Pays de la Loire. The accommodation, a beautifully restored cottage situated in the midst of the tranquil countryside, overlooking fields and woodland. Newly refurbished, the cottage was extremely comfortable and immaculately clean. It was perfect for our family of six. Our children loved the garden and my wife and I loved the fact they could play safely and freely. My best memories are of sitting in the garden at night with a glass of locally brewed wine underneath a blanket of stars (which we rarely see in the city).

Renting the cottage gave us access to the owner’s family farm, where the children filled many hours petting the animals, riding the ponies and watching the daily milking of the cows. The gite is very close to a large number of amenities and we particularly enjoyed the time we spent at the local open air pool and the high ropes centre near Angers.

The owners, George and Anne- Francoise were extremely hospitable and friendly. With our own limited knowledge of the French language, being able to communicate with them both in English made our lives much easier. It was particularly helpful when planning our daily excursions. With their help we were able to experience French life and many of the activities the area had to offer without the hassle of ploughing through guide books and getting lost trying to find various destinations. If was a perfect holiday for me, getting away from the stress of day to day life in the city. I would highly recommend a holiday here, a place where one can experience French life at its best, great for both relaxation and having a wide choice of activities to choose from. Both my wife and I have recommended this property to our close friends and family who intend to travel to France in the future.

Super gîte et excellent accueil

  • 5 of 5
