Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Montecorto - La Casita

Two-bedroom house with large terrace

La Casita (The Little House) is at the top of the oldest and prettiest street in the village. This unique property is a traditional Andalusian cottage that was extended to provide a second bedroom. Recently it has been further extended to provide a separate dining area and enlarged upper terrace with great views across the valley, whilst still retaining its original features and character.

There is comfortable seating in the lounge which has a traditional wood-burning stove and there is a dining area with furniture for 4 persons. The house is enhanced by original paintings, art posters and ethnic artefacts. Patio doors lead to a large, partly-shaded terrace where you will find everything you need for al fresco living, including a second dining area and a large tub with seating and a shower for cooling off in the summer months.

There are views from the terrace across the valley to the Grazalema National Park and the house is set against a backdrop of the hills around.

Montecorto, situated on the edge of the beautiful Grazalema National Park, is one of the 'pueblos blancos' (white villages) which are amongst the prettiest in Spain. The views are spectacular, and in cooler months the area has some of the best walking in Europe. Just a short drive away are the extraordinary Roman theatre and Pileta cave with some of Europe's best cave paintings. Historic Ronda, one of Spain's most spectacular towns, can be reached in 15 minutes and has palaces, art galleries and its famous gorge. To stay in this friendly village is to witness the real Spain, a world away from the crowds and commercialism of the “Costa.” The village has everything for your needs with bars (some of which serve reasonably priced tapas), two small general stores, two bread shops and a fish shop. For eating out there is a restaurant at the edge of the village. There is also a bank and a garage. For summer visits there is lovely swimming pool, just 3 minutes walk from the property.

About Keith & Maggie Redway

We are Keith and Maggie and live in Hertfordshire near London. We love Spain and visit Montecorto two or three times a year. We have made many improvements to La Casita since we bought it 20 years ago. A second bedroom and terrace was added and then more recently we added a dining area, enlarged the terrace and added a tub and shower on the terrace. Maggie used to be a lecturer in fashion and art. Her skills are reflected in the choice of decorations and fittings in the house whilst still retaining its character as a traditional Andalusian property.

Keith & Maggie Redway purchased this house in 1994

Why Keith & Maggie Redway chose Ronda area

We fell in love with Montecorto and its people.

What makes this house unique

The friendliness of the villagers, the views, the peace and quiet.

Ideal location

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in La Casita which is a lovely traditional Spanish village property and had everything needed for a comfortable stay including a wonderful roof terrace.

All hand over details worked smoothly with Anita being just down the road.

Parking for the property was straight forward.

Montecorto is a lovely unspoilt village with easy access to the main road making it an ideal location for touring and walking in the area.

If visiting the area again we will definitely stay at La Casita.

Owner's Response: We thank our guests for such a nice review and very glad that they had an enjoyable holiday. We are especially pleased that they appreciated Anita, our house manager. For many years, Anita and her daughter, who both live in the village, have been looking after La Casita and Los Dos Pajaros, our other house next door (https://www.homeaway.co.uk/p425889). We are pleased that our guests liked the roof terrace which is one of the more recent of many improvements we have made to this traditional Andalusian house over the years. Our guests would be very welcome to stay again in the future.

A Wonderful Retreat

  • 4 of 5

First of all I have to say the photo of the villa does not do it justice. Its location at the top of Monticorto is fantastic. Its surroundings are spotlessly clean, with beautiful trees and flowers all around. The smell of orange blossom lingers in the air and at last you know you're on holiday.

When you step through the door of the villa you step back into a time of how Spanish life used to be (and if you pass some remote farms still do). Okay some may say it was basic, with no television, but it was lovely and clean, well maintained with everything that one could wish for even if they wanted to cook a Sunday roast for the entire family. Best of all the beds were so comfy that every day I woke feeling refreshed and not aching unlike some 4* hotels I've stayed in.

Again the hygiene of the bathroom was spotless.

On top of the villa is a peaceful patio where you can watch the swallows swoop overhead and relax further by looking over the valley to the surprisingly lush open fields and mountains. Have to say though that perhaps the stairs leading up to the patio could be hazardous for young children, unstable older people or to those who have a little too much to drink.

Luxury it may not be, and I don't think its the type of villa that someone would want if they intend to stay there all day. Instead its a villa where you want to be based, explore the region and return home to a comfortable, peaceful, secure retreat. Anita who manages the property lives just down the road and the local neighbours who live opposite are very friendly just like everyone else we had the pleasure of meeting in the village.

We were 3 cyclists. There is a local guide who is very professional and can cater for your every need from bike hire, route advise and of course guided tours. The roads were some of the best and quietest i've ever ridden on.

I guess the best comment or advise I can give is to say would I go back?

Yes please. Intend going back next year.

Owner's Response: We are very pleased to hear that out guests enjoyed their stay. Their comments regarding the house and the village (peace, quiet, friendliness, the birds, the views) echo our own feelings over many years of holidays in Montecorto. It is the most friendly village and even has that reputation amongst the local Spanish in other villages in the area. We have had several parties of cyclists staying in La Casita and our other house next door, Los Dos Pajaros (www.homeaway.co.uk/p425889). All have reported good cycling in the area. Walkers love it too. We don't consider the stairs leading up to the terrace a problem. They aren't that steep and there is a railing. Families with children and elderly couples have stayed there and no one has commented before. Of course, like any stairs, very young children must not be left unattended at the top. We are especially pleased to hear that our guests intend to return next year - that is the best endorsement. They will be very welcome.

A wonderfully simple way to feel happy and relaxed

  • 5 of 5

The description of this adorable property is completely accurate in the facilities listed but it does not in any way reflect the simple and uncomplicated respite it provides from the 'challenge' of everyday life. This characterful cottage has everything required for a comfortable holiday and it provides an excellent base from which to explore the area. The kitchen equipment fully supported my attempts at cooking regional dishes and the local village shops were awash with the necessary ingredients. We had family and friends to stay and the space worked well. The terrace provides a large space to entertain, relax in the shade or sunbathe. There is a corner 'plunge pool' which is great for cooling down and surveying the scenery. I wholeheartedly recommend this very special and welcoming cottage. The house manager lives locally and is extremely conscientious in ensuring that the cottage is well maintained. Enjoy!!

Owner's Response: We are pleased, but not surprised, that our guests appreciated the simple life. The peace of the village, the beautiful views and the friendly people are the main reasons we also love Montecorto and have been visiting it regularly for 20 years, eventually buying a house there. La Casita in Montecorto

  • 5 of 5

La Casita is a very special and unique place to stay. The house is very beautifully furnished with hand painted floors in a traditional setting but with all the amenities and equipment you need for a very restful and comfortable stay. We had stayed in La Casita back in 2004 and we were desperate to return to this wonderful place. There have been significant improvements made to the accommodation and the outside terrace with its stunning views across the hills and landscape are constantly changing with the light throughout the day. We never tiered of looking out across the landscape, from the doves who appear to dance in the sky for you in the morning to the very special sunsets at dusk. The village of Montecorto is very friendly and the locals are very welcoming and hospitable to visitors. We ate and drank in the village which was a lovely experience and the local shops have everything you might need.

There are lots of easy walks around the village and beyond and trips to the various neighbouring villages and Ronda provides a whole range of contrasting experiences which feed the soul.

We want to return to this unique and special place, we love it and would give La Casita the highest recommendation.

The house was very clean and well maintained by the property manager Anita who's as always available to deal with any queries.

We would like to keep this place a secret but given how wonderful it is we think we need to share it with others.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that our guests had a wonderful time and that they love Montecorto and its people as much as we do over many years of visits. This review complements the entries in La Casita’s visitors’ book - everyone seems to love the house and the village. It's also nice to see that our guests appreciated Anita's work and the many improvements that we have made to La Casita since they last stayed there in 2004. Keith & Maggie Redway.

Summer Holiday

  • 5 of 5

A lovely cottage in a quiet and peaceful location. The photographs and description of the property were accurate. The property was managed well. It was clean and tidy on our arrival and everything worked as it should.

The view from the roof terrace across the valley made an al fresco breakfast and dinner essential!

We found the cottage ideal as a base for road cycling (with some good, hard climbing and fast descents on the quiet local roads), local walking and more distant birdwatching trips.

There was nothing to dislike about the cottage and its location. In fact we liked it so much that we have booked a return visit for 2013.
