Space 2,152 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

Self-catering accommodation for 2-8

Our family house, the Tigh, is in Polbain by Achiltibuie. It has over the last few years been re-furbished and comfortably furnished. It consists of three bedrooms - a double, a single and a twin with additional bunks, a bathroom with power shower, a living room with an open fire and sofa-bed, an open-plan hallway and dining room and a fully-equipped kitchen.

The house is reached by steps from above through a gate onto the road opposite Polbain Stores. It has mains electricity, mains water, full oil-fired central heating and water heating plus combined gas and electric cooking. It also has hard-wired internet. All electricity, water, gas, oil and the internet are included in the cost of rental, as are bed-linen, towels and a final cleaning.

Comfortable Self-Catering Cottage In Scotland's North-West Highlands
average rating of 4.3333335 based on 3 reviews

Charming, welcoming, great views

  • 5 of 5

A lovely cottage that was clearly described and came with easy to follow directions (and we arrived in the dark). Very comfortable, a home from home with everything you would need as well as having an Internet connection that worked well throughout our short stay. A great place to use, to explore the Highlands, very clean and tidy. I would come again as its so spacious and welcoming.

Cozy comfort in a land that's far-away

  • 4 of 5

It took us a little while and a consultation from an employee of the Royal Mail to find this cottage, but once there we nestled right in. The cottage has lovely views over water and distant hills and is plunked down in a beautiful corner of the northwest coast. Come here for the quiet, the lull, the peace. Bring lots of food, and condiments, because dining options were limited in the deep of winter. Hiking to nearby Fox Point is a treat, as is a half-day visit to Knockan Crag. I do wish the kitchen had supplied olive oil and a few other basics to help with our self-catering.

Stunning views in a great wee highland getaway

  • 4 of 5

The whole family loved this house. We wanted somewhere tucked well away from it all where we could relax and spend Christmas and New Year in peace. This was a good choice. Communication was good and directions clear. The house was well fitted out and comfortable. The large dining area was perfect for us to have christmas dinner.

The house felt more like a family home than a holiday let and my only criticism was the lack of general info (or at least we couldn't find it) at the house. Many houses we stay at have info on local walk route and other amenities - wasn't a big problem though as the weather kept us in a lot of the time!.

We found a really good little hill track that ran behind the hill and gave us some amazing views over the bay and to the hills beyond.

In the end we were sorry to leave - if this cottage is staying as a holiday let in the future then i wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Bothan na' Tilleadh is in the hamlet of Polbain (The White Pool or Pond) overlooking the Summer Isles on the Coigach Peninsula some twenty-five miles (40 kilometres) to the north-west of Ullapool in Wester Ross in the North-West of Scotland.

The Coigach Peninsula is remote, but then that is its charm. It is beautiful, summer and winter. For the active it has the mountain of the North-West Highlands as its backdrop with extensive hill-walking and climbing. It is ideal for leisurely cycling, as long as you do not mind a hill or two. Cearcall na'Coigach (The Coigach Ring Road) in either direction offers some of the best view in the Highlands. Clockwise you have views of the Summer Isles. Anti-clockwise you have the panorama of Beinn Mor Coigach, Beinn a'Eoin, Stac Pollaidh, Cul Mor, Cul Beag, Suilven and Canisp. The sheltered waters of Summer Isles offer some of the best sea-kayaking in Britain, as well as a number of excellent diving locations.

For those wanting more of a rest, including families, there are gentler walks, wonderful views and a number of beaches including Achnahaird, one of the most stunning in the West. Inverpolly Nature Reserve and the West Highland Geo-Park are close by. There is sea and loch fishing and everywhere there is raw nature with dolphins and killer whales, eagles and deer regularly to be seen.
