We would love to welcome you here to our home in this beautiful setting. We bought Howscales Holiday Cottages in 2016, and we have enjoyed putting our personal touch to each cottage, creating stylish home-from-home self-catering holiday accommodation.
We live onsite with our two canine buddies, Murphy and Rosie. There are four cottages at Howscales set together in this idyllic Cumbrian countryside, surrounded by gardens and set back from a quiet road between the villages of Kirkoswald and Renwick.
In a slightly elevated position they enjoy uninterrupted views across tranquil pastures and woodlands towards the hills of the Lake District and Pennines.
Offering the personal touch and making sure you have everything you need to make your stay relaxing, enjoyable and memorable is our aim.
We are dog friendly, having our own dogs and enjoying holidays with them too.
Geltsdale was converted from a former barn and benefits from up-side down living allowing you to take advantage of the stunning views of the garden and fells.
On the ground floor is one double and one single bedroom with a shared shower room.
On the first floor the stairs seperate the open plan kitchen/dining area from the lounge area. The lounge area benefits from stunning views of the Renwick and Geltsdale Fells. Open beams give an open, airy feel to the cottage.
Comfortable beds, toiletries, thick towels and lots of hot water await you after a day out.
As with all of the other cottages the bedrooms have light furniture, comfortable beds, quality bed linen, soft towels, modern shower room complete with toiletries.
Located in the Eden Valley, which is often described as Cumbria's best kept secret. Bordered in the West by the lakes and mountains of the Lake District National Park, now a World Heritage Site and to the East by the hills and waterfalls of the North Pennines and Yorkshire Dales. This area of Cumbria through which the River Eden meanders is so often overlooked, but offers a perfect rural retreat for a relaxing holiday in delightful scenery
The Eden Valley has not only wonderful scenery, but also many small, delightful villages and hamlets.
Nearby to Howscales Cottages the sandstone villages of Kirkoswald, Glassonby, Gamblesby and Melmerby are delightful to walk to and in Kirkoswald the village pub is very dog friendly so if you are out walking with your four-legged friend you have somewhere to stop for refreshments.
Lush green countryside surrounds you and flowing through the Eden Valley is the magnificent River Eden where you can enjoy some great riverside walks. Close to Kirkoswald can be found Laceys Caves, carved out of sandstone and found right on the riverbank. Please note that following the floods in 2015 a section of the footpath to Laceys Caves was washed away and is yet to be repaired (it is passable with care).
The Settle-Carlisle railway, the most scenic railway in England, runs through the Eden Valley, with stations at Lazonby, Appleby and Kirkby Stephen. Hop on and take a ride while you are here. The historic Border City of Carlisle has many attractions, eating places and shopping.
We love where we live and were holidaymakers to the Eden Valley and Lake District too, for many years before settling here at Howscales. We can give you tips and advice on all the best places to go and things to not miss out on.
