Our home is only a 1-5 minute walk to restaurants, cafes, bars, boulangerie, butcher, grocery store, pharmacy, hairdresser, clothes store, art gallery, Chateau de Beynac & castle tours, the Dordogne River, canoe hire, river boat trips, hot air balloon hire, summer time weekly Farmers Artisan Market, gift shops, Medieval Village recreation, river side footpath for leisurely strolls, river fishing, countryside walks, bird watching.......... in fact everything that you could possibly need is in this 'Plus Beaux Village de France' even an English speaking doctor!

You really can do it all here & leave your car in the garage for the whole week. Beynac is on one of the loveliest stretches of the Dordogne river near to Sarlat & a 'not to be missed' stop for any traveller. This is a spectacular base for your holiday, whatever time of year you visit. From this spacious & beautiful rental home with panoramic views of the Dordogne river & 4 Chateaux, you can stroll to restaurants, food & antique shops, art galleries, summer market, Chateau Beynac & the Dordogne river; you can go canoeing, hot air ballooning, take bike tours & walking tours all in Beynac. L'ancienne Poste is a lovely holiday home which is perfectly situated near to Sarlat & the nearby attractions of Domme, La Roque Gageac, Lascaux Caves, Les Eyzies, Rocomadour, numerous pre historic cave paintings, troglodyte houses, St.Emilion or Bergerac vineyards !!!



L'ancienne Poste is a very light, airy & spacious honey coloured stone house with 2 Master ensuite bedrooms (both shower rooms with basin and toilet in each) & a Twin ensuite bedroom (bath with shower over bath, toilet and basin) with a 13th Century stone arch. The living, dining & kitchen area & all the bedrooms have panoramic views over this historical part of the Dordogne river to the 4 Chateaux of Castelnaud, Fayrac, Marqueyssac & Lacoste.

The main entrance to the house uses the original Post Office shop doorway and leads directly into the kitchen. There is a lovely sunny south facing terrace next to the kitchen with magnificent Dordogne river & Chateaux views. There is a table & chairs for sunny al fresco breakfasts & shaded evening meals with a glass of wine, the whole while enjoying the stunning views complete with beautiful sunsets.

The Garden Bedroom (one level down from kitchen/living room level) has an ensuite bathroom, two single beds & medieval stone archway with French Doors opening onto the south facing garden. The Balcony Bedroom (one level up from kitchen/living room level) has a kingsize bed & double French doors giving panoramic views of the valley below; it has an ensuite shower room & ceiling fan. The Vaulted bedroom (two levels up from the kitchen/living room level) has a king & a single bed, with a beautiful vaulted beamed ceiling & ceiling fan, an ensuite shower room & panoramic views. There is a private pool with sun decking & a shaded flower covered seating area. There are ample sun loungers & chairs. There is parking next to the house.

The whole house is over 4 levels, on the lowest level you will find the garden bedroom which has twin beds & French doors opening to the garden & pool area, this room also has an ensuite bathroom with a shower over the bath. Also on the garden level, although accessed from outside only, is a store room housing the freezer & washing machine, this is accessed from the garden. One level up from the garden is the kitchen, dining & living room with the main entrance door & outside sunny dining terrace with stunning river & chateaux views. The floor above the living area is the 1st Master King bedroom which has a full width south facing balcony which also overlooks the river & chateaux. The hallway on this level also has access to another balcony which faces west & overlooks the river & pool, there is also access out onto the Rue de l'Ancienne Poste & our double width garage. The floor above has the large vaulted 2nd Master bedroom with a lovely comfortable King bed & also an antique French 4ft width sleigh bed, both Master bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms with glass shower doors, sinks & toilets. All the bedrooms have river & chateaux views & ensuites.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES: Lazily drifting down the Dordogne river in your own canoe, passing Chateaux, Bastides & medieval villages as you go is not to be missed. Take your own picnic & stop off at one of the many beaches along the river, or pull in for a gourmet meal at a restaurant. For those of you feeling a bit more energetic, join a bike tour & see the leafy lanes & valleys. Hot air ballooning & micro-lighting flights can be organised locally for the more adventurous amongst you. There is a 'Tree Adventure Park' near by, which is a great place to go with a group of kids & adults alike. There are also the many local caves including Lascaux & Font de Gaume at les Eyzies with their Prehistoric paintings for you to visit. Sarlat itself offers many free attractions, especially during the summer, including fireework displays, street theatre, acrobats, musicians, art exhibitions & concerts. Not to be missed are the towns & villages of Domme, Rocamadour, Sarlat & Montignac with the famous Lascaux cave paintings.

BEYNAC HISTORY: L'ancienne Poste is set on the banks of the gently flowing Dordogne river overlooking 4 chateaux & one of the historic sites of the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) between England & France. The stunningly romantic village of Beynac, which rises dramatically from the valley floor & which was once the home of Richard the Lionheart, will enchant & captivate you at every turn, from its narrow medieval streets lined with soft honey coloured stone houses, shops, art galleries & restaurants to its magnificent Chateau, perched high on top the cliff, which has majestically watched over the Dordogne valley since 1150. You may already be familiar with Beynac and the surrounding area from watching such films as 'Chocolat', 'Joan of Arc', 'The Musketeer' and 'Timeline'.

I also have the details on a couple of other similar homes in the area, so if this does not suit I can forward on the details of the other houses, both have large 10x5m pools and can accommodate between 4-10 guests. Both are very reasonably priced for the facilities offered and within 5 minutes of Sarlat, Domme, Beynac, Roque Gageac and the Dordogne river.

We now have 3 wonderful vacation rental houses in prime locations in central Sarlat & Beynac which are available to rent all year round. What makes this house unique

We have three beautiful holiday homes, one in central Sarlat, one in central Beynac (wonderful house which over looks 4 Chateaux and the Dordogne river!) and a brand new to the holiday rental market after a 150,000 Euros refurb is our 16th century Maison Bourgeois with heated salt water pool, which is located just 2 miles from the centre of Sarlat in a tranquil bucolic setting.

Both our Sarlat and Beynac homes have been our own family home since we moved to France 14 years ago and we now offer them for others to enjoy. All three houses are private and you will have sole use of the house, garden and pool, they all have their own off road private parking and ensuite bedrooms. As we now live only 5 minutes drive from both Sarlat and Beynac we are on hand for any queries that you may have during your stay so you can be assured of the best of care & assistance if needed.

The Sarlat & Beynac houses are within a 2-5 minute easy level stroll of restaurants, cafes and wonderful boulangeries selling the best croissants and baguettes. There are Farmers Food Markets each day of the week in the surrounding towns and villages and a twice weekly street market in Sarlat which also has a daily covered market by the main Square. Here you will find the local farmers selling their freshly harvested produce, including organic bread, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and creams. During the summer months there is a daily variety of street entertainment in Sarlat which is free to watch and sometimes participate in ! Our new holiday home is within walking distance of a bar & restaurant with twice weekly live music during July and August and is only a 2 minute car journey into bustling Sarlat.

My husband and I travelled from Armenia to Benyac to reunite with our daughter’s who travelled from different parts of the world to be with us. We had a wonderful week long stay in this house that was very comfortable, welcoming and tastefully furnished. With the bedrooms on three different levels we were able to spread out and each was fitted with its own bathroom and toilet – which was great as young women need to do a lot of personal grooming! We spent a lot of time cooking, eating and talking as we sat around the wood fire which was really delightful. It was the first week in January when we stayed in the house and the weather was not to cold with even a few sunny days after frosty mornings. The Benyac village was very quite with only a few shops and restaurants open. This suited us just fine – but we needed to remember to stock up on groceries in the morning before the supermarket closed. We did some peaceful walks along the river and around the village and castle located on the cliff top. I loved sitting on the bench underneath the window and looking out at the river as the water flowed down stream. The photos on the web page of the house and village do not lie! It all lives up to expectations

The perfect holiday -- in every way!

Just to let you know that we arrived home back in the States safely -- and still happily thinking about our stay in Beynac and L'ancienne Poste. It was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the great views ("to die for" is an understatement) plus all the history and, of course, the charming small village flavor. The property was immaculate, bright and sunny, and everything we could have hoped for. The chateau, the river below, plus the proximity to Sarlat and the charming countryside of Dordogne made for the perfect holiday. We especially loved the local markets, the friendly people, and we thank you so much for sharing all of it with us. We will be back.

Absolutely outstanding property!!

I can honestly say that what you see is what you get : magnificent views, awesome location, spotlessly clean, very well maintained, and fabulous facilities. My sister and I stayed a week here and were so impressed with everything, there was nothing we didn't like!!! We could cook and eat in, or take a short stroll to one of the many restaurants in the village. We were within a short driving distance of many wonderful places to visit. The service we received from the owners was outstanding, from the pre arrival information, to the instructions on how to get to the property, hints and tips on what to see and support while we stayed in the property. Truly wonderful. I can highly recommend staying here and given the opportunity I would stay here again.

Great stone house that's very well appointed and in fabulous location

This was our second stay at the Ancient Poste and we love everything about staying here. First of all the town is an authentic fortress town that is not commercialized. Up until last year the castle owner's lived in the fortified castle and there have been significant upgrades to this and the surrounding castles since we last visited in 2015. So, touring the castles are well worth while. This home is located close to so many great towns and you will never get bored or wonder what to do.

If you are a foodie be sure and plan time to go to Chateau Treyne as the service, wine and food are superb. It's a 45 minute drive, but the home owner referred us to a Tesla taxi driver that we've used the past two visits. He speaks English and French very well and also has a tour service. Well worth the money when drinking and planning travel on back country roads.

This year we ended up with a Nissan Juke as our rental car and it fit up the narrow road to the homes dedicated parking. Make sure you get a car that will fit up the narrow road to the garage since it makes life very convenient and is fun to navigate. The previous time we had an Audi A3 and that was perfect.

Read my prior review from October 2015 for many details and I'll repeat a few here.

The home has a great view and we enjoyed evenings on the terrace pictured in the ad. The light changes throughout the day and the sunsets are spectacular. And in October the sun sets right over the river and makes for incredible photographs. From the house you can see two other castles and one chateau across the river. The kitchen is modern, well appointed

and handsome. The furniture is very comfortable and it's nice to have a brown leather couch instead of the customary red velvet in so many French homes. There's a wood burning stove in the living room and the television selections are entertaining enough if you want some no brain time. The bedrooms are large and all three have en suite facilities. When you first arrive come in and then go upstairs to the hallway door. Open that and it's a direct feed to bring your luggage into the home. There's a new washer in the basement and a drying rack the kitchen has a dishwasher.

In summary, this home is very comfortable, in a great location, very well maintained and the owner's have taken time to provide the perfect vacation home. You cannot go wrong with this rental and even after 2 visits we were still discovering more things to do.

The pictures do not lie!

Gorgeous house in a gorgeous place. Beynac is a perfect base for exploring the Dordogne, and this house is placed perfectly in Beynac. Three very separate bedrooms with ensuite baths ( we were a couple and two singles and it worked perfectly). Nice (compact) kitchen and comfortable "great room." We ate dinner on the patio every night - a different lovely sunset over the river every night. Loved the bakery down the hill and "La Petit Tonelle" restaurant a few minutes away. Great local wines at the shop at the bottom of the hill. Parking in the town lots was easy (but you have to get your own permit at the Mairie (about 13 Euros for the week) and it's only open during the week.

We are four fit seniors and the climb to the house was fine, but challenging. We did the drive up the hill to drop off bags (in an Audi A4 wagon), but decided it was too nerve-wracking to do it when we left. Getting rolling bags down to the parking lot was relatively easy.

In sum, a lovely week in a lovely house!

Couldn't ask for a better location or more helpful hosts

Loved our stay here with so much to do in the area and a great place to come home to. Canoeing, Cycling, Hot Air Ballooning, Tour de France, Chateau's, wine, cheese and not forgetting the awesome local bakery.

Amazing view!

The home was beautiful and the view was even better! Homeowner's were very easy, helpful and friendly to work with. Very clean home and amenities were perfect. There is a very steep grade of cobblestone hill to walk up to get to the home with luggage, groceries, etc. Other than that, the home is amazing!

Owner's Response: We are so happy your enjoyed our amazing home and are over the moon you found it very clean and with perfect amenities. :-) It is a lovely house in a very special authentic village, but vehicle access to the double width garage, which is next to the house, can be a problem for people with a large vehicle or not used to driving on narrow streets. However, there is a loading/unloading bay only an 80yd level walk from the house, so there is no need to walk up hill with suitcases and produce. :-) and the nearest village car park is a 2 minute walk from the house.
