Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Saumur - Le Logis

Located at the heart of the historical district of Saumur ''Le Logis'', charming renovated house with character, inviting you to discover the gentle pleasures of life in Anjou.

A few steps away from the pedestrian streets, you can roam and discover the castle overlooking the city, sitting on a terrace enjoying a famous gastronomy.

You will enjoy the tranquillity of the dwelling as well as its comfort, decoration and of course its patio.

Character house of the 16th century, built with traditional stones (freestone). ''Le Logis'' has a ground floor and

2 floors.

After crossing the patio, where you can relax, you can reach the ground floor through an entry leading through to the the living room. The dining room and the kitchen where the oak beams and the stone chimney has preserved the place authenticity.

Very bright, this large room is furnished with taste and antique furnitures emphasise its architecture.

The turret has a wonderful spiral staircase in freestone, on each floor.

You will also enjoy the very beautiful frame of this typical Val de Loire staircase.

The first and second floors are reserved for the 3 bedrooms, spacious, very bright and furnished

with all comforts and a good taste furniture.

Each bedroom has a bathroom or a tiled shower with zelliges, luxurious and separated.

Giving privacy to the guests. Separate WC on the floors.

Please note especially on the second floor bedroom the very beautiful original oak frame called nave of boat, very characteristic of the buildings of this period.

Unique and charming, like being in your own "mini- chateau" complete with turret

  • 4 of 5

Located in the heart of Saumur, a few minutes walk from the main square, numerous restaurants and (including a good sized Carrefour supermarket), and the river. The parking is about a 10 minutes walk from the house, in a public parking garage with a reserved space in a separately locked area.

The house is tastefully furnished with an eclectic mixture of modern art and antique furniture, stone floors and high, beamed ceilings. The bathrooms are all completely remodeled, with plush towels and a large hairdryer in two of the three bathrooms (note: the countertops are high, so if you're short, you may find yourself stretching a bit to use the sink). The house is south-facing, so it's filled with natural light much of the day.

The courtyard is private and is a pleasant spot if you want to eat outside or sip an aperitif. Having a separate laundry room, with a good-sized freezer, was a treat (we stocked up on frozen food from Picard, and did a few loads of laundry and some ironing).

The kitchen is small but well-equipped, with various pots and pans, and a nice large selection of crockery and linens. Since it's narrow and there is limited counter space, it's not really a space for "serious" cooking but it suited our needs (simple dishes on the stovetop or in the microwave, though microwave-safe dishes would have been useful).

A word about the spiral stone staircase. While it's quaint, it is surprisingly tiring to go up and down even one floor, due to the step height and high ceilings, and the hardness of the stone. We noticed this within the first day, whenever we used the bathroom on the 1st floor (2nd floor, American system). (Note: no ground floor toilet.)

Saumur itself is well-situated for visiting various sites in the Loire Valley. During our week's stay, we drove to L'Abbaye de Fontevrault (just over

an hour), the spectacular gardens at Chateau Villandry (45 minutes), and bustling Angers (45 minutes).

Lastly, a note about the only thing that did disrupt our stay - on a couple of days we heard very loud music from one of the apartments next door, including late at night. The house shares a common wall. Elisabeth, the owner, was very responsive when we notified her, and was in touch with both the tenant, and subsequently the property management company (when it continued a second night). We didn't have any significant recurrence for the rest of our stay.

All in all, a very pleasant stay in a charming home, with a warm and solicitous hostess.

Owner's Response: I wanted to thank you for your appreciation which you writted on the website. You were very couteous and very nice hosts. Your remarqs were sound. I added a series of dishes from the microwave in addition to the cover. The musical neighbourhood concern is now happily resolved thanks to the involvement of everyone. I wanted to thank you for your understanding. I appreciate your feelings. Saumur and the Loire surroundings are rich in discoveries, its mild climate make it an unvoidable place indeed.

Amazing accomodation in the heart of Saumur

  • 5 of 5

Stay here and feel like you are stepping back in time. The winding stone staircase, gorgeous rafters in the top floor bedroom and lovely courtyard give this place a timeless appeal. We were two couples traveling together and found this place to be perfect accomodations. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, the living room area provided comfortable seating to unwind after a day of sightseeing and enjoy some of the wonderful local wines. The kitchen was small but modern and well equipped. We were able to cook and set a beautiful table with all of the serving pieces Elizabeth keeps stocked. The parking area was a short walk away and very secure.

Saumur makes a good base for exploring the Loire valley and has several great restaurants within a very short walk of this property. We especially enjoyed Auberge saint Pierre and Les Menestrels. There is also a nice Saturday market with locally grown mushrooms and cheeses among other delicious items. The property is an easy drive to many of the valley's beautiful chateaus and Fontevraud Abbey.

We want to thank Elizabeth for being very welcoming and making us feel like we were at home. We would certainly love to stay here again, especially in warmer weather to enjoy the lovely courtyard.

Luxury accommodations in the heart of Old Saumur

  • 5 of 5

Our home for a week, this beautiful townhouse exceeded our expectations, which were already high. This is truly luxury accommodation. The charming Madame MAURET’s attention to detail shows in every one of the rooms of this 3-storey townhouse. Tasteful decor, well-equipped kitchen, well-appointed bedrooms with excellent linens, and bathrooms of the highest quality.

The spiral stone staircase in this home was a first for us, although we’ve rented quite a number of houses in France over the years.

It was a splendid experience and we can’t recommend it highly enough. The location is perfect, right in the heart of old Saumur. Several good restaurants within a 5 minute walk, or even less such as Le Grand Bleu, a seafood restaurant at which we ate twice. The moules were outstanding, as was the sole meuniere.

The issue won’t be where to find croissants in the morning, but which of the boulangeries you like the best. All of them are within walking distance of the townhouse.

The courtyard-in-the-heart-of-the-city is an added bonus. Although the late October weather was too cool for eating in the courtyard, it would be a fabulous setting for a dinner under the stars at the table in the centre of the courtyard.

Merci Madame MAURET.

Fantastic accommodation in the centre of Saumur

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent week staying is this accommodation which possessed both all the modern amenities you would want in a property also full of medieval character.

Ideally located to enjoy Saumur on foot and also within easy distance of many of the best sites and attractions that the Loire has to offer. Secure car parking also gave peace of mind.

The owner, Elisabeth, could not have been more helpful.

A top class property we would thoroughly recommend.

Perfect home in Saumur

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for three nights the first week of October. The owner was a delight. She met us on our arrival and made sure we had what we needed. The house is wonderfully appointed -- new bathroom fixtures and nice kitchen. It's also perfectly located just a few blocks from the heart of town and fabulous restaurants. Merci beaucoup, Elisabeth!
