The cosy house is on a quiet road next to a lake at the edge of a sleepy village surrounded by many lakes, green meadows and deep forests. It is perfect for couple or family summer breaks, or winter cross-country ski trips, or simply to get away from it all at any time of the year. Children can safely explore the area, which is popular with families from across Europe in Summer. You have your own private garden, large sun terrace and front door. The hall leads to a spacious lounge with fully equipped kitchen adjacent. The sunny master bedroom has a large double bed, and a second bedroom has full-sized bunk beds suitable for adults or children. The bathroom has a bath with shower over. There is a 22' flat-screen TV, DVD player, garden furniture, barbecue, games and books for your use. The apartment is all on one level making it easily accessible. It is the downstairs apartment of a 4 party house. It is a non-smoking house and we do not usually accept pets.

The weather: In summer temperatures are normally in the mid 20s and sunshine is plentiful. From the end of December to the end of February snow is very likely – sometimes a lot of snow! Spring and autumn are less predictable but are usually mild and pleasant.

About Emma or Timo Reinhold

We are a little Anglo German family of four, based in the South East of England. Emma is a GP, born and raised in Birmingham. Timo works in HR in London, and moved to the UK 15 years ago. He was born and spend most of his life in Berlin, which - together with the Harz mountains - is still his spiritual home :-) We have 2 small children - so the need to have an easy, stress free, family friendly place to spend your holidays is very familiar to us!

Timo's family has owned this apartment for many years, and we have by now renovated and updated the whole space many times to keep it beautiful and up to date.

The apartment works in so many ways - not too big, but space enough to play and relax. No stairs, no steps and complete privacy make this ideal for couples and families. The furniture, large sun terrace and cosy bedrooms allow you to make yourself at home straight away. There is a tranquility and peacefulness around the space which allows you to switch off and relax like no other space we know.

What makes this apartment unique

All the best things the Harz has to offer are virtually at your feet - the clear bathing lakes, forest walks, cross country skiing, wild flower meadows start at the front door.

Because there is very little traffic, it is a very safe space for children. Nature is all around you - children can roam and explore the area and find their own perfect outdoor adventure.

For the adults, the area is rich in heritage and history to explore, and because Buntenbock and the wider area have strong links to Spa and Health activities, you will find plenty of opportunities to pamper yourself in the surrounding villages and towns.

We have a high chair, change mat and potty for the use of our younger guests. There are plenty of children's toys, games, jigsaws and books and a few English DVDs for your use. You will find a barbecue as well as some outdoor games in the pantry at the back of the kitchen

Great Stay

Had a wonderful stay in this house. Very easy to reach from Hannover airport. Set in a very quiet location but easy to reach towns with good road structure. The house is warm and well equiped for a comfortable stay. There are plenty of places nearby to ski. A real get away and very nicely kept.

Beautifull and Relaxing.

We loved the place so much this was our second visit to this apartment and is an ideal place to stay to explore the beautiful Harz mountain area and to de-stress. The apartment is located in a beautifull quiet village - spotlessly clean and comfortable with litereally everything you need including TV, DVD, books, children's games, sunbeds, bbq, towells and bedding. It's only five minutes drive from the swimming pool, shops, bakereries and restaurants. Tourist Information in the local town were so helpful and advised us on all the local attractions - thermal baths, historic towns, museums, walks, markets and so much more. The market on a Thursday evening is buzzing with an assortment of local German food etc and enertainment. Great value for money and well worth a visit!!!

Lovely retreat in the Harz

We had a lovely relaxing holiday at this apartment which is situated in beautiful countryside and surrounded by forests with a beautiful lake only 100 metres away. Ideal for walking and visiting some of the historic old towns in the region.

The apartment is comfortable with a garden and patio which is ideal for eating outside if the weather is good.

We will definitely consider returning soon.

Fantastic holiday

The apartment is situated in a small peaceful village, with very little traffic, with little or no noise. The apartment itself is airy and spaceous and will adequately accommodate 5 people. The property is in good decorative order

The furniture is modern, clean and very comfortable. My husband was recovering from a back injury and had no problems with the sofa or the bed.

We opted for the bedding and linen. option, and this was certainly very clean and in good condition.

The garden is well maintained with a small patio area, and being fenced in, is secure for children. The garden is full of local wildlife, including a cheeky red squirrel

The surounding countryside is very picturesque, with an attractive lake less than 5 minutes walk away. There are several cafes / hotel restaurants serving good, resonable priced food, all within easy walking distance.

As for local attractions, these are too numerous to list. Whether you are after a quiet walk through a woodland, a trip up a mountain by steamtrain or an aquapark for the children, all are within easy driving distance.

Our comunicationswith the owners were excellent and they provided helpful advice and information on the property together with directions. This was supplimented by a folder at the apartment, filled with details of local attractions.

We would certainly consider a return visit, and would have NO hesitation in recommending it to a friend.

Property in very quiet village

The house has most things you need, but a washing machine would be greatly appreciated. Great selection of English DVDs for the rainy days we had. Comfy bedrooms, instant hot water and heating, and nearby restaurant (around the lake) which we enjoyed. We also loved the swimming facilities about half an hour away, with great indoor and outdooe pools, diving boards and shute. Sadly the indoor facility shut for a week's 'cleaning' rightin the middle of our holiday in English school holidays! The property had good facilities for toddlers, which we did not need, as our kids are 10 and 13. Not a lot to do to occupy them for a week of mostly rainy days in the vicinity however.

Owner's Response: We were sorry to hear about the unseasonal weather - you can usually expect to spend summertime in Buntenbock messing about in and around the lakes. What a shame about the indoor pools being closed for cleaning - it is lucky there are several outdoor pools too. I've never been to such an amazing swimming and sauna complex, and the massage wasn't bad either. We would love to have space for a washing machine, but there is a launderette in Clausthal.

Quiet location close to lovely scenery

The apartment is in a quiet suburb of a small village. The apartment was generally well equipped, though we would have really liked to have had a washing machine. Due to the lashings of hot water, we were able to 'trample' our washing in the bath, much to the amusement of my eldest daughter (age 13) who reckons she'd like to do the washing like that all the time (!). The beds were comfy, as was the sofa, when we all snuggled to watch the DVDs provided (thank you so much for a selection of English DVDs!) ... as the weather was quite mixed.

We managed to enjoy the garden once or twice between the generally rain-set-in days, and ate our meals outside on these occasions. We'd have liked a BBQ (provided) but this was not to be.

The guest book was helpful to us in locating supermarkets and restaurants etc. and as long as you have a car, all facilities are in very easy reach (under 30 mins). We liked the walk to the restaurant along by the lake (Pixhaier Muehle, visited 3 times!) and we loved the swimming facilities at Aqualand in Osterode (also visited 3 times) - with great outdoor and indoor pools ... sadly this closed 2 days after we arrived for an annual clean (odd time to chose, in summer holidays) - but the outdoor facilities remained open, and we were amongst the few swimming in the pouring rain!

On a couple of days we needed the heating on (I know, a bit miserable in August), but on these occasions, the boiler sprung into life immediately and the place was beautifully cosy in no time.

Buntenbock is an old merchant village in the Harz national park surrounded by extensive forests and a landscape dotted with many clear lakes, streams and gently rolling hills. The people have welcomed visitors for generations and are friendly and easy going. The next town, Clausthal-Zellerfeld is a small university town but has a long history of mining. The old houses - and even churches- are mainly built out of wood and brightly painted.

In Buntenbock, you will find restaurants, and in summer a small village market. Clausthal is only 5 minutes drive away and has a wide choice of shops and restaurants plus a weekly evening market.

The Harz is the highest mountain range in northern Germany. Buntenbock is 550 metres above sea level: the highest mountain, the Brocken – in local folklore associated with witchcraft – is 1142m. Around the Harz there are many old and picturesque market towns including some UNESCO world heritage sites.
