About Scott Cuthbertson
My sister and I are the second generation owner of this family property which we built in 1974 and have renovated in the spring of 2017 redoing the kitchen, bathrooms, wiring, all new pine flooring throughout and expanded dock.
Scott Cuthbertson purchased this Cottage in 1974
Why Scott Cuthbertson chose Portland
This property is about 90 minutes from Ottawa, 3.5 hours from Toronto and has great water, very clean, good fishing, good boat access, good road access but is much quieter than other areas such as Muskoka.
What makes this Cottage unique
Screened in porch is great to spend evenings in. Two fridges and chest freezer for all your goodies. New high end dishwasher, sink etc. ensures you spend more time enjoying the property than cleaning up.

Good time on Big Rideau, but....
Great spot to relax and enjoy Big Rideau Lake. Overall the cottage was good, well equipped with all the necessities.
However the listing was not fully accurate, the listing stated that the cottage had air conditioning, washer and dryer and internet available. None of those where provided, the windows definitely where not the best. Moths small flies and mosquitoes could enter the cottage even with the windows closed. No lights where available in the screened in portion of the deck, an no lights on the stairs down to the dock. A label was stuck to the breaker stating that that breaker is to be left off.
The stairs down to the dock where uneven which could pose a safety hazard.
The deck out on the lake was very nice and provided a great spot to relax after a long day of fishing, however the floating dock was a bit sketchy with a lot of large boat traffic in the area the dock moves a lot, small children should not be left on the dock alone.
Don't get me wrong my family had a good time at the cottage and enjoyed staying there, but this cottage does not command the asking price per night when the listing is not accurate.
We had an amazing stay and a great time at the lake!
Glad you had fun, you were great guests. Hope to see you again!
We are located on the Rideau Trail. The Rideau Trail is a 387 km network of hiking trails between the City of Kingston and the City of Ottawa located in the general area of the Rideau Canal and its tributary waters. We are also on the route of the Rideau Lakes Tour, an annual cycling event going from Ottawa to Kingston and back again in early June. There is good cycling (both road and mountain), fishing, boating, sailing and swimming on site. We are about an hour from Ottawa with all its attractions as well.
