Charming Summer Cottage

Bedrooms 2
Space 900 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms , sleeps 4.

This is a charming cottage ideal for your family, friends and pets. Only 100 yards from the largest beach along the Indiana shore, the cottage is perfect for your summer get away. You are walking distance to the zoo, Washington Park, marina, museum and one mile from great shopping at Lighthouse Place, a Prime Outlet mall.

The cottage is sunfilled and cozy, perfect for a beach setting. It has all the necessities you'll need with a fully outfitted kitchen, linens and towels, 2 tvs, (one in the living room and one bedroom). The deck extends along the house and is just right for afternoon naps and serving meals. There's a large yard for play, including fire pit for s'mores and conversation as well as a driveway, (major plus in the summer), and close enough to the beach, you can run back and forth for the toys you forgot. Spend the evening watching beautiful sunsets over Lake Michigan then head out to one of the 4 restaurants around the park, the Blue Chip Casino, or take in a movie at the multi-plex in town.

We welcome you to spend some time enjoying the beach and hope to help make your vacation a special one!

About the cottage:

We found that we were remiss in our write-up regarding the cottage and several reviews pointed this out to is. The cottage was built in 1920 with facelifts throughout the years. It's been a family getaway for our kids and their friends since birth (oldest is now 30). It's never been gutted but is updated, hence the rates are priced appropriately relative to the market. It is welcoming and cozy and we try to provide all the amenities you need. The location is good and it's quiet. If you're looking for new this isn't for you. But if you want comfort, a good price, and location, you'll enjoy your stay.

About Eileen McKnight

The cottage was built in 1920. We purchased this cute cottage when my 2 city bred kids were growing up so we'd have a place where they could be carefree. With the beach down the street, the park next door we've enjoyed many many years here during the summer. They are now in their 20s and busy with their lives. The cottage is comfortable but not spanking new. It's a typical beach cottage and clearly not for people who like 'new'.

Eileen McKnight purchased this house in 1986

Why Eileen McKnight chose Michigan City

Unlike most rentals the cottage is set up as if I lived there. I come out as often as possible. It's cozy, has all the amenities, cutely decorated. Has parking for 2 and just a brief walk down the street to the largest beach along the lake. The park is wonderful with, a zoo and harbor side restaurant. The park beach is totally flat so if you'd prefer not to go over the dune, you can drive or walk down and enter the beach from there.

What makes this house unique

Location, location, location, decorated as if it's your own home. Dog friendly. A large yard with fire pit for s'mores in the evening. Everything you need to enjoy the summer.

Clean and had all the comforts of home. Loved walking to beach for the beautiful sunsets every night. Used the grill and fire pit- loved them. Will definitely return. Owner very helpful and responsive.

nice cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this cute cottage, which met all our needs. It was clean and furnished well. We appreciated the linens and towels being provided, and avoiding extra charges as many other rentals surprise you with. It was perfect for our group of three women, but would also be great for a family of 4. The large beach was a close 5 minute walk down the road and over a small dune. Eileen was kind and we appreciated her hospitality! We did have a little trouble with communication and it would have been helpful to have specific directions to the beach and more detailed information such as cleaning expectations and supplies (Ex: Clorox wipes and paper towels would have been easy and helpful). Overall, a success!

Very cute and cottage feel

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable, quiet and close to the beach.

The outdoor deck is great to hang out! The flowers and umbrellas on the deck brighten things up.

Would definately stay here again. Loved that we could bring our Rottie Isabella with, she loved it too.

Adding towel hooks in the bathroom would be a nice addition.

Thanks Eileen for having such a neat place to enjoy Harbor County! Jim and Rene'

Very Cozy quaint place

  • 5 of 5

The property is tucked away from the beach. It was very easy to walk to. The owner was very pleasant to deal with. It is an older home but clean and decorated like a beach cottage. I would definitely go back.

Just as described. Perfect little house with close access to the lake and other local attractions!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay! The house suited our needs with our two young children. The access to the lake is just minutes away. We appreciated the beach chairs and toys available. We walked most places we went. Several parks close by and the Washington Zoo. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place close to the lake. Not a fancy or modern house, but nice and clean.

Quite Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for us. Being tucked in behind other cottages made it private and quite. The house is nicely decorated with light cheery colors. Any complaints would just be nit picking.

We had our Golden Retriever with us and were able to find numerous restaurants were she could be with us when we dined outside. We took her to the beach early in the morning and after 6 in the evening with no problems or complaints. We saw other dogs on the beach also. However, animal control personnel will tell you to leave the neighboring park, it is closely monitored.

The beach is very close. Walking over the soft sand of the dunes to get to the beach may kill you, but once there well worth the trek. The sun sets are everything you may have heard and yes you can see the Chicago sky line.

Have no doubts, this cottage is a good rental.
