We made it home! Long, long flight with the connection to Porto. Thanks for arranging the cab for us, it worked out fine.
Thank you for letting us stay at your apartment, we enjoyed each day! If it wasn't for the hills we would have gained 20 lbs while there. The food was amazing and we were pleasantly surprised to find the costs very reasonable.
I'm certainly going to recommend your apartment to our friends.
Again, thank you for all your help,
Henrique....thank you so much for all your help and care during our stay in Lisbon. The apartment was perfect for us ... very spacious and bright with an unbelievable location. As many have mentioned it was quiet for sleeping with all the benefits of living in the Bairo Alto. Grocery shops, the lovely Antonios downstairs, coffee in the Placa and restaurants everywhere. We highly recommend the tiny Do Bem Ester across the street .... typical delicious fish and family run! And I must say that the kind attention Henrique gave us when my husbands back was giving him problems ... above and beyond! We highly recommend this lovely apartment for your home away from home as you explore this gorgeous, friendly and beautiful city. Wish we could find such an apartment in other world class cities. Your Canadian fans!
We stayed in this fantastic apartment for 3 nights during a recent stopover in Lisbon (Oct 2016). The location was perfect for seeing all the highlights in Lisbon as well as enjoying the nightlife (Jazz and Fado) In Bairro Alto and Chiado. This is a large apartment that has lots of historic charm and was comfortable for our group of 6. We really enjoyed the living space at the front of the apartment, which had floor to ceiling french doors which let in a lot light and fresh air. The owners have paid a lot of attention to the details that we look for when choosing vacation accommodations: very comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, nice bathrooms, linens and towels were plentiful and new, and the entire apartment was very clean.
Henrique was an amazing host for our family of five, to include 3 adult children. He was punctual, very helpful ahead of time and when a member left a credit card, informed us and offered to get it back to us.
The layout was spacious and rooms were apart to provide privacy. The shuttered balcony windows opened onto a small but popular street at night, giving us a neighborhood feeling. Highly recommend and can't say enough good things about our experience!
We were travelling with another couple in Portugal recently and found this to be a lovely place to spend 4 days touring about Lisbon. It is a charming large apartment with plenty of room for two couples (with an extra small bedroom if needed). It was clean and well supplied with linens, and a fully equipped kitchen. The layout was spread out but we enjoyed the privacy this allowed when travelling with others. We had a minor glitch getting access to the apartment as the code on the door had been changed but Henrique was quick to respond and I would suggest making sure you have his number with you before you get there.
I would recommend this apartment highly to others and am sure they will love the elegant spacious feel of this apartment and its close walking proximity to excellent restaurants, groceries and the old historic area of Lisbon. Also loved our Port experience at Antonio's next door!
We (two couples in our early 60's) recently spent 6 nights in this great apartment. The location is wonderful. The Metro and famous 28 tram are close by and it is a short walk to Rossio train station and also down to Placa do Comercio on the river. There are numerous bars and restaurants close by and there is a genuinely local feeling about the whole Bairro Alto area. It is noisy at night but that isn't a problem in the apartment. The beds are really comfortable, it was very clean and the kitchen well-equipped. The apartment is obviously very old, has lots of passage ways and an unusual layout but we found it charming. If you don't like steeps hills and want to stay somewhere modern and streamlined this probably isn't for you. But if you want to experience a little of the old Lisbon and some of its local characters this a great choice! We loved it and would happily stay there again.
I can't really express how much we enjoyed our 12 night stay at Henrique's apartment! As others have said, the location is the best! It's only a short walk downhill to the main part of town. The Metro station, taxi stand, Tram stop, ATM, many places to get a pastry, and an espresso kiosk are < 5 minute walk. Train station to Sintra (1 euro 85 cents round trip!) is ~10 minutes and the Time-out food court (great high end food) is straight down the hill < 10 minutes.
The apartment is huge. I'm a light sleeper and the back bedroom was VERY quiet considering the apartment is at the entry of a huge party neighborhood. Outstanding restaurant and bar selections right around the corner. Three very nice bedrooms. Washer worked great. Kitchen had all the appliances you would need although we really didn't use it (except for the microwave once) because we didn't want to miss a minute of all the restaurant choices! Note that there is no dryer but a portable heater fit nicely under the open closet in the front room for drying hanging clothes.
The back bathroom was large and the shower was great with plenty of hot water(no tub). Nice heated towel bar.
The other bathroom was nicely appointed as well (Has a combo tub-shower), but would be tight for a larger person. Only thing it could use is a towel bar.
Everything was very clean and there were plenty of towels.
Henrique was readily available and got us everything we needed (including arranging for a taxi to the airport for 3AM pickup! 20 euro after tip, not bad for 3AM)
As others have said, Antonio and Marta in the wine store downstairs (which I call my wine cellar) were very nice and would have done anything to help if needed. Great to stop in for a 10 year old port after dinner....
Thanks to all and we can't wait to come back. We won't think of staying anywhere else on our next trip to Lisbon, which we hope will be soon!
