|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Daisy is in a small development of 8 properties, located close to the heart of a Cretan village, where the local people have made a decision for the village to retain its original character. There are no cash machines or English newspapers. The tavernas do not take Travellers cheques and few tourists stay in the village.
However it does have a lovely location in 'Orange valley' and it enjoys unspoilt mountain views. Some of our guests like to visit the local resorts like Fodele Beach and Agia Pelagia, before returning to the village for the evening meal.
The village itself has a special character. Very little has changed over many decades. The locals are proud of their association with El Greco and the fact that the village can sustain itself through the local crafts, farming, farm produce and the visitors who come to see this special village. The Churches in the village are beautiful and they remain the focus of village life. Christenings and weddings are attended by the whole village. You can witness the feast in the village square accompanied by the local music and traditional dances.
Daisy has 2 double bedrooms and 2 shower rooms, one with a bath.. The kitchen is fully equipped and you can choose to eat here or take advantage of the local bakery or the 9 tavernas in the village. They even do takeaways., It is furnished to a high standard to give it a Cretan feel with a touch of John Lewis.
The property enjoys full remote control air conditioning. There are fly screens throughout so you can leave windows and patio doors open. The rear courtyard and balconies are private with tables and chairs.
It is a gated development, separated by the river from direct traffic access, so your children can enjoy themselves in safe surroundings.
we wish to have guests who will treasure our property as we do, and to treat it as they would do their own. We appreciate that accidents can occur but we do not want the type of damage that is caused by children who are out of control or by adults who have little respect for a holiday property.
If this note of caution is acceptable to you, there is no doubt that you will have a special holiday and may even want to return !
DAISY is situated at the heart of a uniquely authentic village. It is totally unspoilt, without cash machines or English newspapers. It has one main street where their traditional crafts are practised, including tapestries; jewellry and of course Cretan cuisine !
You will find much to occupy you in the village. There are 7 tavernas within 300 metres, each with their own specialities. You can take gentle exercise on the various nature trails. The local churches are beautiful and are well worth a visit. You may even go to the museum that commemorates El Greco and his birthplace in Fodele. Unlike the resorts, it stays open throughout the year. For many visitors, it is a reminder of the 1950's
It will appeal to those who wish to be close to sea but would prefer to stay in a proper Cretan village. Fodele Beach is only 2 miles away and it is lovely bay with a sandy beach.. Buy a drink at the taverna and your deck chair is provided free.

I am a retired teacher who actually misses the classroom and the busy life in a large Secondary school. Daisy has given my wife and I a wonderful opportunity to become part of Cretan village life and to communicate with a wide mix of guests, most of whom I never actually meet but seem to know so well.
Peter Jones purchased this house in 2005
It is in the centre of northern Crete, in an unspoilt village 3km from the sea. It is surrounded by trees ; the village stream ; the village church. The locals are proper
'Cretans' and there is a unique atmosphere without cash machines or English newspapers .It is open throughout the year. Daisy has been furnished as a home for you to share and enjoy.
Our total aim has been to make you comfortable. The beds are king size and the mattresses are of good quality. The door and patios have nets so there is a welcome breeze without the company of our flying friends. The kitchen is fully equipped with its own seating area. The lounge has settees for your comfort and contains both a small library and a television/DVD for your enjoyment. Internet is available. There is a roof terrace and balconies so that you can appreciate the views and the sky at night.
The village is very special in Crete, not least because it is the birthplace of El Greco, the famous painter .It is a favourite village for many of the Crete people, particularly on Sundays.
The village stream is fed by the mountains and it flows throughout the year. It is also home to a unique fauna and flora. It is a society more reminiscent of the 1950's and the area feels very safe. Our house is separated by 2 bridges and 100 metres from any form of motorised transport. The builders found it very difficult !
You can see many reviews on our own website at to see how our guests have enjoyed their holiday. The guest book in Daisy has reviews spanning over nearly 10 years. They are a testimony to the appeal of Daisy, Mandarin Grove, the village of Fodele and the island of Crete
Our service managers will meet and greet you in person no matter what time you arrive. They will also familiarise you with living in Daisy and the key features of the village. You can pre order extra supplies in case the shops are closed when you arrive.
Many of our guests are repeat customers who have fallen in love with the Cretan life in the village. Some try all the Tavernas, others stay in Domenicos where they are regaled with stories and made a fuss of by Smoothy George.
It has such a central position, 2 miles from The main highway in Crete that you can visit so many places of interest. The historical sites of Knossus and Spinalonga are well documented and the beautiful coastline and mountain splendour is close at hand. You will not be short of advice from the local community.
Daisy is a lovely house ,views and location Mr and Mrs Higson
The accommodation was perfect,,very clean and all furnished to a high standard. Mrs Cooper
So good we came back for a second visit. Mr and Mrs Sheldrake
All was fine with our holiday thank you Mr and Mrs Afriat
After 4 weeks in Daisy, it is perfect for short or long holidays. It is right on the edge of a picture postcard village. Good food in the tavernas and very friendly people. Daisy has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. A holiday we will remember for a long time Alan and Di
Fodele is probably the most relaxing holiday destination We have ever visited. This really is a gem of a place, just touristy enough to have good restaurants and bars but not over commercialised or noisy. Everything is within a lovely 2-5minute stroll of Mandarin Grove (if you can tear yourself away from the poolside which is set amongst the most beautiful scenery). Paul and Angie really look after everything and ensure you have no worries during your stay. We stayed in Daisy, a lovely, clean, well appointed cottage, which has wifi, to video, and all modern kitchen appliances. Some nights we cooked fresh local produce (got to try the cheese and the lamb) but most of the time was spent being entertained by Smoothie George..the guy really knows how to make people feel welcome, and his wife Eva whose cooking is just fantastic. We are a family of 3 with a 12 year old daughter and there was just enough to keep everyone entertained for a fortnight. Plenty to do and see nearby...lovely beach at Fodele Beach with tavernas who let you while away the hours on their sun loungers in exchange for buying refreshments from them (at ridiculously affordable prices). But don't just take my word for it...book it and see for yourself.
A week of bliss, wonderful haven hidden away from the hustle and bustle of life. A chance to recharge the batteries. Apartment was beautifully furnished and maintained. Couldn't fault any of the restaurants, all were so friendly, as was the local people.
This villa and the surrounding pool is maintained to a very high standard - the couple who manage the property are on hand to answer questions and ensure everything is working. The thing that is so lovely is that it is only 100 metres from tavernas - but hidden behind trees and enclosed. I liked never having to feel I had to get my " towel on a sunbed"...always plenty - and being able to wander back to the villa without having to pack everything up. The local tavernas are econimocal to eat out at all the time and staff (smoothy George) are welcoming. The local bakery is really close too and worth a walk every morning for fresh bread. Hire a car and just go to explore!
As always, a wonderful stay. Fodele is the place to be if you want a calm, peaceful holiday, but with adequate tavernas, a nearby beach and a pool at the apartments. The Manager & his wife, Angie always make you welcome and are always on hand. The apartment has been recently refurbished to a high standard and we were so impressed at our last visit, that we have booked three weeks for 2015. Always a home from home.
Daisy is a lovely compact house with plenty of terraces and balconies to sit in either the sun or shade dependant on your preference ours was to sit on the bedroom balcony at night and watch the night sky as we discussed the days events while sharing a night cap and listening to the sounds of the local animals. Or you may choose to lounge by the pool which sits near the entrance of this secluded and secure group of 4 houses and 4 flats
The property is well maintained and kept spotlessly clean by the friendly management team of Paul and Angie who will take great delight in looking after you throughout your stay with useful tips and information.
It’s a pleasant short stroll across the river into the centre of the idyllic village with it’s many Tavernas and friendly locals who will all welcome and greet you with open arms. All serve good simple dishes or if you give them prior notice most will provide a more extravagant dish - try Domenico [Smoothie George] , Father and Son or El Greco’s.
If you are lucky your stay may coincide with a local wedding which if you can last the pace will provide an entertaining evening long into the wee small hours. While there we celebrated our grand daughters birthday with a party at Smoothie’s who provided a sumptuous birthday cake and refreshments for our new found friends as we danced and partied into the early hours.
From Fodele a short drive will take you to the many other beautiful locations - try Malia beach, before the teenagers wake up, Balli [Mpali] with its different beaches, or Georgioupoli and it’s scenic mountain lakeside. If you are there with kids you should take a day pass out at the local water park which is part of Fodele Beach Hotel. A nominal charge of 80 euros, which covers the cost of all drinks snacks and ice creams throughout the day for 2 adults and 2 kids will provide an enjoyable day out.
We look forward to returning one day soon.
We had an absolutely lovely time in Daisy. This is the first holiday where I didn't cook one meal as the Tavernas were so good especially Domenicis..........George's ice cream is the best in the world, even better than Italian.
Your house is lovely and the village was everything that we were hoping for. The Cretan people are so friendly and welcoming.
We enjoyed it so much that we are going back in October. Thank you so much for letting us use Daisy. You are so lucky to be part of such a lovely community
.Daisy has an elevated position close to the heart of the village, so you can enjoy great mountain views from the balcony and roof terrace.
The village itself is a working village and there is a bustle of activity as the locals go about their daily lives. They enjoy showing you the wide range of their local produce including vegetables, fruit, raki, lamb and home made tapestries.
The local walks can include the village or you can quickly reach the mountains to go further afield. The village is very proud of their association with El Greco and the birth place of El Greco.
The vegetation and bird life is enormously diversified and very different from other Mediterranean islands. Many of our guests find that they rarely venture out of the village because it provides such an excellent focus for them. This is helped by the fact that there are 10 tavernas in the village each offering their own tempting culinary delicacies.
Secondly, Crete is the most southerly point in Europe and it has a wonderfully warm climate. Moreover Fodele lies in the centre of the nortn coast and only 3km from the main east-west highway. This means that you can easily reach most of Crete.. The island is steeped in history and you can visit famous archaeological sites at places like Knossus and Plaistos. It has a mountainous interior that provides lovely views and many opportunities to put on those walking shoes. There is also the island of Spinalonga ; the Samaria Gorge as well as the nearby Fodele Beach and larger resorts like Agia Pelagia.
