Hi my name is Alan and I live with my wife Marion and our two teenage children about 25 miles south of Edinburgh in Scotland , UK.

Mr ALAN WATT purchased this villa in 2010

Why Mr ALAN WATT chose Bahamas

We went to Casuarina Point on holiday and fell in love with the place instantly. We decided to buy a plot of land and build our dream holiday home .The plot we purchased is only 200 feet from the beach. The garden is very secluded and we have open views over the cannal at the front.

What makes this villa unique

The villa is only 200 feet from the crystal clear waters and the pure white sandy beach at Casuarina Point. The sailing, snorkeling and the bone fishing is out of this world. The villa has all the comforts of a modern home and the furniture is designed to help you relax on your vacation.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I had the good fortune of finding the listing for Trade Winds when researching a location for our 2013 winter vacation. Being seasoned travelers who have been throughout the Bahamas, we look for vacation opportunities where there is a great beach, reasonable accommodations and as far from the tourist traps as possible. Trade Winds met all of our requirements and more.

Located in beautiful Casuarina Point, Trade Winds is conveniently located about 20 minutes south of Marsh Harbour. Rent a car, buy some groceries, pick up some liquid refreshment and you'll be all set to begin your vacation in paradise.

For those who are not aware Casuarina Point has calm waters and an endless beach perfect for walking, shelling and viewing aquatic life. If that is not enough, Casuarina Point is also a world reknown bone fishing destination.

Trade Winds is a perfect a complement to this beautiful location. Alan Watt, the owner, has ensured that Trade Winds provides its guests with a nicely appointed, new 3 bedroom home on a quiet road with virtually every amenity needed. It also has a private back yard with porches off the master bedroom and utility room, lawn chairs, etc. Mr. Watt is an attentive owner and just plain nice guy who wants to ensure that his guests have a wonderful vacation as does Trade Wind's caretakers.

So if you are looking for a little piece of paradise off the beaten path, it can be yours at Trade Winds.

Neat & Tidy house & property

  • 3 of 5

The house and property were well kept, spacious but very basic. Everything was in working condition. Good internet and access to many TV channels but very small TV screen. Would have appreciated a blind/curtain on the master bedroom ensuite back door. All bathrooms need towel racks and power outlets. The shower head in the ensuite had to be cleaned so it functioned better. The hot water heater needs attention as the water is not hot enough for showers. Mattress in master was hard and required a pillowtop. New pillows and linens are required for the Master. The kitchen cupboards were all smelling musty and should be left open when the house is not rented. We left them all open every night but the smell didn't go away. The property managers - Judy and Rex were very helpful and informative. Beautiful beach was enjoyed by us.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review about the villa. We are sorry about the musty smell and will look in to this right away. The house will have a full makeover this summer with new beds and bedding along with the new TV. The water heater was set to low for that time of year and has been adjusted. We hope overall you enjoyed your stay and the fishing went well. Kind regards Alan

Relaxing vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We spent at this villa only a few days, but we enjoyed it. The location is perfect for independent travellers, you need a car because there is "nothing" around, like entertainment or shops, but that was exactly what we were searching for. It's the perfect house for beach vacation, spacious and well appointed, but not luxurious, 100 mt from a wonderful beach. I don't know if there was tv, you should not go to the Bahamas of you are searching for tv, watching the stars in the evening is better! The neighborhood of Casuarina Point is nice, the second day people recognized us and said hello on the beach-- :-) I was desolate, we did leave in advance because I had an incident on the boat, now I'm good again, someday I will return to better visit this beautiful island.

Wonderful Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

From the very beginning of our correspondence with the owner Alan Watt to the very end of our stay at Trade-winds we had an outstanding experience for myself, my wife, my daughter and her husband and their one and a half year old. Alan was most accommodating with helping us to arrange the date for our arrival and in guiding us through everything from having food in the fridge and a baby's travel bed. It was his quick response to any questions we had and his attention to these details, as well as the ready nearby assistance of the property caretaker and his wife, that made all the difference to us as a family.

The description of the property is accurate. The house and all the bedding and towels and kitchen facilities were spotless and nicely kept. If we had any questions they were quickly dealt with to our fullest satisfaction.

While there we made great use of the beach that was a pleasant 3-4 minute walk from the house as well as numerous other beaches on Abaco and Elbow Cay. The latter being an enjoyable 20 minute ferry ride out of Marsh Harbour. The grocery store Maxwell’s, in Marsh Harbour is outstanding. We have traveled to the Caymans, Barbados, other parts of the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and found the infrastructure of the island most pleasing. Aside from the pot holes in some of the roads, which are easy to spot so also easy to avoid when driving in the light, we had no problems at all. Casuarina Point is a perfect jump off point for a family. You can stay there or explore the island as you wish. When the tide is out you can walk for the longest time seeing sand dollars, conch, and all kinds of other strange and wonderful creatures. Our little one absolutely loved the beach(es) wherever we went as did we. The locals, whether natives or other visitors were more than friendly. The fishing is outstanding as well. We went bonefishing with Buddy Pinder (a very enjoyable & highly professional guide just down the street) and caught 16 or more fish. On walks we saw parrots and wild peacocks. Try the great restaurants in Marsh Harbour, Elbow Cay (Hopetown), Sandy Point(Nancy's at Sandy Point – affordable, fantastic chicken, lobster tails, fish, etc - by Dolores a wonderful lady) and elsewhere. If you have an open mind to doing something a little different & want to experience the out islands you can't lose with Trade-Winds. I would recommend this facility to friends, family and we have every intention of being back. Thank you Alan for all your help.

Very Nice Villa.

  • 3 of 5

Let me start by saying, the villa was Large, Clean and in great condition. Judy the caretaker was a sweetheart. The beach at Casurina Point was very nice as well, especially if you have young children, at low tide you can walk all the way to the next cay. Very relaxing and hardly anyone on the beach. Allan the owner responded to my questions promptly and professional.

Now, some of the things that do need attention fast: Pots and pans are shot, these need to be replace yesterday, tv is too small, I have a computer bigger than that, and believe me once the light go out you'll need the tv because there is nothing else to do on the island. The cable selection is very poor, just a few chanels, no AMC for those who watch the walking dead, no hbo, show, no cnbc, I believe a better cable subscription is in order for your guests. Directions were not that great, the building where you make the turn is white not blue, the highway name is Ernest Dean not Abacos, maybe Abacos is what is known to locals, but the name on the highway says Ernest Dean, we of course got lost. In any case. I believe if these changes are made your stay will be wonderful.

The town of marsh harbour is beautiful and plenty of restaurants to eat, Treasure Cay beach is gorgeous as well, do not go to Sandy point, our experience was not the best nor was the restaurant the locals say to go which is Nancy's, it was a dump. The people on the island are friendly and we felt pretty safe exploring the island.

Would I come back to abacos, Not likely.

Owner's Response: Dear guest, thank you for your review of our nearly new house. It was good to hear that you found the house very clean and large and that our caretaker looked after you. The beach as you said is very safe and perfect for the young and the old and so quiet. I am pleased that all my responses were prompt and professional. I was surprised to hear that the pots and pans were not in good order during your visit as neither the previous guests or our cleaner had mentioned this, so I have taken the precaution of replacing them. I am also sorry to hear that the Bahamian way of life was not for you. Most of our guests love the peace and tranquillity of Abaco and return every few months for a short break or once a year for their main holiday. Abaco is the perfect place for sailing, fishing and relaxing on its empty beaches, you cannot blame the people of Abaco because you “had nothing to do” you should have researched your vacation properly. Perfect !

  • 5 of 5

Trade Winds villa is the perfect destination for a stress free holiday.

The villa is exactly like the pictures and description on the web page, clean, spacious, modern with everything you require for a great holiday. Marsh Harbour is only 25 mins or so away by car and you can get everything you might need there, Maxwells is a big well stocked supermarket with plenty fresh food to suit all tastes.

Alan is absolutely wonderful to deal with, so helpful and friendly, he answers any question quickly with great local knowledge and amazing enthusiasm for Abaco.

The island itself is very beautiful and deserves to be explored, some of the beaches are incredible and almost deserted, I spent 8 hours one day at Bahama Palm Shores, swimming and walking the beach, and saw one person and 3 dogs!!. The people that you do meet are invariably friendly and very helpful, I spent two weeks on Abaco by myself and all of the local folk I encountered were very open with great suggestions on what to do or where to go, or, just as happy to pass the time with you.

All in all Abaco and Trade Winds villa are the closest thing to paradise you can imagine and I certainly hope to return.

Excellent accomodation, well equipped & appointed

  • 5 of 5

This property was a real home away from home. Careful thought and attention had been given to the accommodation and its equipment.

The property was immaculate and well maintained. The local caretaker was available, but not intrusive, and extremely helpful.

Excellent customer service from Alan when making travel arrangements. He was very helpful regards tourist information and maintained contact during our holiday.

I would certainly recommend this property and location for anyone wishing for a quiet, relaxing holiday. However if lively, noisy over commercialised resorts are your thing this will not suit!

Treasure Cay is an absolute must - beautiful beaches and sea!!!
