The quiet village is self contained and includes a Post office/grocery shop, a pub with fabulous views over the Bay, a good restaurant called the Blue Plate and a coffee shop in the square. The beach at Downderry is fine grey sand with colourful shingle and stretches from about a mile east of Downderry to Seaton in the West and beyond. The beach has a lot of rocky outcrops which makes many rock pools at low tide. There is a beautiful walk from Seaton along the river to Hessenford where there is a good pub. There are many scenic walks in the area, and the Eden project is within easy reach by car.
