Only a 10 minute walk to the Promenade des Anglais and the beach, Place Massena, the Coulee Verte (a long green park), the train and tram stations and 20 minutes to the historic and trendy Vieux Nice with its narrow winding streets. Wander around and be sure to taste our local specialties such as Socca (a chickpea flour pancake) and Farcis (stuffed vegetables).
The apartment is just steps away from bakeries, restaurants (traditional local cuisine and also Italian, Corsican, North African, Lebanese, Vietnamese, etc.) supermarkets, banks, a gas station, the Rialto movie theater (movies in English and other foreign languages), the Musee Massena and the Alsace-Lorraine park.
There are museums in all directions: Musee des Arts Asiatiques in the Parc Phoenix botanic garden near the airport, Matisse and Chagall in the Cimiez neighborhood, Musee d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain parallel to the old town, just beside the theater.
There are also many farmers markets around town if you want to cook with the freshest possible ingredients. The Cours Saleya in the Vieux Nice has a flea market every Monday morning and flowers, fruit and vegetables every other day and the Liberation neighborhood just beyond the train station and on the route of the tramway, offers even more along with fresh goat cheeses.
The SNCF Nice-Ville train station is just 10 minutes away for easy rides east to the cute port towns of Villefranche, Beaulieu, St. Jean Cap Ferrat, Eze, Monaco, Menton and beyond to Italy or west to the sandy beaches of Antibes, Juan les Pins and Cannes and onward to the Var.
Also to or from the train station you can take the shuttle bus #99 for the airport and there are many regular lines running through the neighborhood, bicycle rental stands and parking garages. The tramway can also take you a long way but it's really more fun to walk.
Nice has a pedestrian shopping area leading to the well known Galeries Lafayette department store and if you really want good exercise, walk up the 1,000 steps to the "Chateau" park perched above the old town and the port.
For a free boat ride, during the summer months, take the Lou Passagin boat on the shortest maritime route in all of France, from one side of the port to the other.
