Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Carcassonne

Unobstructed view of the medieval town

This XIX century house is located on a very-sought after boulevard of the town, in a very peaceful neighbourhood. A true haven of peace 5 minutes away from the town centre (covered market, market square, restaurants) and a charming 15 minute walk away from the Medieval Town. The 230 sq.m of this house display larges luminous rooms where the ancient is combined with the modern. Whit high ceilings, typical cement tiles with motives and wood-stained parquets. This harmonious atmosphere is highlighted by ancient posters and splendid carpets. The small TV room and the kitchen open onto a charming inner courtyard where you will enjoy the private pool. On the 3rd floor, terrace with panoramic view on the town and laundry room. On the 2nd floor, the 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 separate WCs. On the 1st floor, the living room/library and dining room (seats 10), the kitchen with dining area, the TV room. On the ground floor, reception hall and access to private garage.

Perfect location for a family of boys and young men

  • 5 of 5

We had the most fantastic break. Bertrand was incredibly helpful from the initial enquiry, right through to our departure.

The cupboards had been filled with enough food to see us though our first breakfast, and beyond, with additions from the boulangerie next door. We arrived around 7 and were given clear directions to restaurants less than 5 minutes away, for our first evening. Saved us that awful, first night, tired, search for a supermarket before you've got your bearings.

Despite being on a main thoroughfare, we were astounded by how quiet the back patio and pool were. At Bertrands suggestion we carefully kept the shutters closed during the day and never had a problem with being overheated indoors despite it being August.

Our sons range from ages 11-21, they were delighted with our choice of location. We found plenty to do (recommend being in the walled city before 10 for a quiet visit to the castle, student cards for European visitors give a free entry!) . Train rouge from Axat and added trip to the Garralus Gorges was a wonderful day out. Activities at the Lac du Cavayere filled many hours.

Very honestly, no complaints. All was as we expected from the description. We visited friends in their holiday home, owned by an English family, in a nearby village. It was lovely, but we felt that we were the ones who'd hit the jackpot, with a lovely, authentic, French holiday home!

Great place

  • 5 of 5

Property as described and the owner Bertrand very easy to deal with both prior to our rental and during it.

The salon and dining room at the front of the house were spectacular although not greatly used. The kitchen had enough equipment to cook for 4 and the back pool garden was a great place to eat meals, laze about and generally chill out.

The location was superb. 5 minutes to the main market square and just about within walking distance of the old Cite

Thoroughly recommended and hope to return next year

Beautiful home, wonderful location.

  • 5 of 5

Our group of three had a wonderful week at Bertran's lovely home in Carcassonne. The house itself is large, elegant, yet very comfortable and homey. The kitchen was modern fully equipped and the washer and dryer were very convenient. We loved sitting out on the patio by the pool and especially enjoyed the roof-top deck with the view of the Cite lit up at night. We were able to walk to shops and restaurants, and the patisserie right next door provided excellent croissants every morning. We visited the Cite several times, walking, taking a bus, and driving our rental car. Carcassonne is a wonderful city in the midst of the beautiful Aude region. Bertran recommended Sun Tours for a tour of the area -- our trip was greatly enriched by the full day and half day we spent with Antoine, visiting castles, villages and wineries. The home was spotlessly clean and Bertran was a wonderful, thoughtful host who was always available by cell or text, and who made sure we had everything we needed. All in all, a fantastic week -- highly recommended!

Magnificent with secluded rear pool and dining area

  • 4 of 5

This is a very large house with spiral wooden staircases and a grande living/dining room which is ideal for families and friends to sit together. The kitchen was adequate and there are all the cooking utensils you would need if dining at home. The house was very clean and the owner is very friendly. He was always contactable should we require assistance with local attractions or if there were any problems regarding the house (which there wasn't). We would definatelly stay again if we are visiting the area.

Charming villa - close to sights, great pool, beautifully furnished

  • 5 of 5

We rented this townhouse with our elementary school-aged children and baby during June, and had a wonderful time. The pool is a huge bonus given the heat of Carcassonne in the summer, and we spent a lot of time on the patio, and on the rooftop deck. The furnishings are beautiful and original, a nice break from the hotel-y feel of many vacation rentals. It felt very French. The location was great, walking distance to lots of restaurants, and we walked to the walled city itself, although it was a bit of a hike carrying a baby. Bertrand could not have been more pleasant and helpful. I would 100% recommend this rental.

A real jewel

  • 5 of 5

This townhouse could not have been more perfect for us. It is ideally situated very close to the old town, and walking distance to the medieval cite and the railroad station. As such, it is ideal for visitors without a car (although there is a private garage if you do have one). The house itself is charming, full of old-world character (and a great choice of books if you speak French), but with a modern kitchen, and a stunning view of the walled cite from the roof deck. The piece de resistance is the lovely backyard pool, a real private oasis. The owner, Bertrand, was the perfect host, always available when needed but never intrusive. He even picked us up and took us back to the airport, plus stocked the kitchen with provisions. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation!

The Medieval Town, Carcassonne’s Castle and its battlements can be visited with or without a guide. The fortified town contains museums, craftsmen and designers’ workshops and many shops, restaurants, and renowned wine bars. Equestrian shows in the ‘lices' and numerous events and street arts on the theme of chivalry will charm adults and children. The city blaze on July 14th is a must-see, just like the Carcassonne Festival from June 22nd to August 5th. Discovery of the low town, the Bastide Saint Louis (markets, covered markets, shops and Place Carnot). The golf course of 'Domaine de l'Auriac' is 10 minutes away. Very good gastronomic restaurants in the town (Franck Putelat’s 'Le Parc'...). The Côtes de Malepère ('La Sapinière'...) Côtes du Minervois and Côtes des Corbières’s vineyards, wine tasting in the cellar. Visit of Limoux famous for its’blanquette’. The Cathar Castles (visits with our partner 'Sun Tour'). Numerous trails for walking, cycling or horse-riding. The Canal du midi is a 10 minute walk from the house, with its charming promenades by boat or by bicycle. The Mediterranean Sea is 45 minutes away by car, Narbonne, Leucate and Gruissan are very sought-after seaside resorts where you will be able to practise your favourite water sport (kite surf, wind surf...). The Lagrasse and Fontfroide Abbeys are 25 minutes away as well as the ‘Montagne Noire' and its lakes (Saint Féréol, Lampy), and forests. Revel, (markets, furniture, Antiquitées) ainsi que Sorèze (verrerie, artisans et l' Abbaye école). Castelnaudary (capital du cassoulet) is 20 minutes away. Albi and its cathedral, Sainte Cécile, its Toulouse Lautrec Museum 1 hour away as well as Castres, the town of Jean Jaurès with its wonderful town houses, the Goya Museum and its formal garden, the surprising discovery of the Sidobre. Toulouse and the Garonne are one hour away by the highway; Montpellier, the Pyreneans, Perpignan ('Visa pour l'image' Festival) and Collioure (Modern Arts Museum) are 90 minutes away. Andorra (duty free) and Spain (Barcelona and Girona).
