Overview

About the property

6 spacious bedrooms, 4 baths, a charming kitchen, with views, close to the beach

Le Manoir de Marigny is a lovely 250 year old family Manor house where much rich history abounds. It originally was a farm surrounded by multiple buildings primarily dedicated to livestock and dairy products. The main house called “la Maison de Maitre” has been built in the mid-18th century and the barns surrounding the court yard are respectively dated from the 16th and 18th century.

The property is positioned on one side by a beautiful rose garden surrounded by manicured bush hedges with a large pond and sweeping lawns facing a 2 hectare (5-acre) parcel among fields and tall shade trees and on the other side a beautiful fully sun exposed court yard encircled with two old barnyards. Most impressive is the spectacular view of the Bayeux Cathedral captured from the outside patio and all the rooms facing the garden. In addition, miles of pristine backgrounds featuring the famous lush Normand grassy meadows with cows peacefully and gleefully munching will transport you to an enchanted journey.

The house recently remodeled comprises 6 spacious bedrooms, 4 baths, a charming kitchen with a Piano Lacanche range, a formal dining room, two lovely living rooms, an extensive patio with a barbecue and a private yard with a beautiful garden. A shared tennis court is available on the property for you to enjoy

About Bertrand de Boutray

I was born and raised in Paris and have been living for the past twenty years in Seattle where my wife is originally from. We have two daughters aged 24 and 27 currently living in Los Angeles and Seattle. This is a house where many generations of my family have lived or spent time as a second home for summers and vacation. Since the day I was born, there hasn’t been a summer where I have not spent time with my parents or my family at Marigny. Lots of memory are attached to this house and each generation have brought their own personal touch to make it more comfortable and a unique place to rest and enjoy the soothing lifestyle of Normandy. Many improvements have been made in the past five years to bring the quality standards that you would expect in such a exceptional house without compromising its history, style and soul.

Why Bertrand de Boutray chose Longues-sur-Mer

The manor house is situated in a village called Longues Sur Mer, one half mile from the sea (La Manche), 5 miles from Bayeux site of the very famous one thousand years old Tapestry of the Queen Mathilda. The village of Longues Sur Mer is famous for having the most well preserved German bunkers (Batteries de Longues), which is just walking distance from the house as well as the bakery and a small butcher/grocery store.

The manor house is right in the middle of the Omaha and Gold Beach, in between Arromanches and Port en Bessin along the coastline connecting all the DDAY historical sites. In addition to the DDAY beaches and charm of Bayeux, you are only two hours away from one of France's most recognizable landmarks: Mont Saint-Michel and its bay that are part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites and one hour from Honfleur, especially known for its old, beautiful picturesque port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages, painted many times by artists, including in particular Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet and Johan Jongkind, forming the école de Honfleur (Honfleur school) which contributed to the appearance of the Impressionist movement. Since you are located between Omaha Beach and Gold, all the major sites, such as Utah beach, Sainte Mere Eglise, Pointe du Hoc and the American cemetery in Colleville just to name a few are easily and quickly accessible from the house.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Home that offers the charm and uniqueness of family traditions and history found in every room. What I like the best are the breathtaking views of Bayeux Cathedral lit up at night from the bedrooms. Enjoying a cocktail on the patio full of sun just before dinner capture memories and instants that will last forever.

It is a great place to spend a week where you will enjoy discovering the wonderful food that Normandy has to offer: its dairy products, butter-cream-cheeses ( Pont l’Eveque, Livarot, Camembert) but also its apples. You will enjoy cooking with hard cider, and sipping a night cap of Calvados (apple brandy).

Then of course, if you are a tennis fan, just walk down the alley and enjoy the privacy of your own court.

If you are adventurous, you will enjoy a bike ride on narrow trails along the cliff between Port en Bessin and Arromanches

Fantastic house, fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks in this beautiful home and loved every minute. The house is beautifully decorated and beautifully equipped with everything that you could need. The garden is gorgeous and we enjoyed having our meals there. The owners are a dream to work with and we would return in an instant. The location could not be better for visiting many things including all the D-Day sites. It is less than 5 miles from Bayeux which is lovely and offers every service one might need including a selection of wonderful restaurants, and less than 5 miles from the coastal town of Port-en-Bessin which is charming.

Owner's Response: Couldn't have been happier with our renters. The home after they left was in perfect condition and clean. They were very good at following the home rules and instructions. Since day one we had established a reliable and prompt line of communication which really help to make the whole experience as smooth and pleasant as possible. I would recommend without any hesitations our renters for future reservations. Five stars all the way.

  • 5 of 5

Great house, gardens and facilities for a family holiday no matter what the weather

We didn't get to use a lot of the equipment as the weather was great so we enjoyed the outside facilities of the property and long sunny evenings in the garden

A great location for both beach and touring

Large , bright rooms , lots of space , great facilities, well maintained, stunning gardens and first impressions

Great support when needed, nothing was too much trouble

I would recommend this property to anyone for a summer or winter break

Amazing Family Home

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in this special home and would highly recommend it. There were four in our group but the house can easily accommodate more. Bertrand welcomed us when we arrived, gave us a tour and pointed out details on how to use the house. We were very comfortable using all the amenities of the property. We cooked quite a bit while in the house and the kitchen is fully stocked with all the pots, pans and utensils we needed. Of course, Bertand is a chef so one would expect this! We loved dining outdoors overlooking the yard and it is truly an amazing view. It is completely private. This house is centrally located and we were minutes from all the D-day beaches, historical sites and points of interest. A very nice grocery store was minutes from the house and it had everything we needed. There are numerous little villages very close by with very good cafes and restaurants. Bertrand gave us recommendations so we knew we couldn't go wrong!

In addition, since we were working for part of the trip, it was important that we have access to wi-fi. The service at the house was very good and made it easy to communicate locally and abroad.

I would high to recommend this house and we would not hesitate to stay there again. Thank you Bertrand and Brooke for being perfect hosts. We are so lucky to have been able to stay in your lovely home.
