Plenty of room, quiet and pretty

  • 4 of 5

The estate has lovely landscaping, which is better appreciated with perhaps a bit fewer sculptures and paintings absolutely everywhere. That could just be a matter of taste; others might not agree. The interior is classic 80s and in need of some updating, but that being said, it had everything we needed for our annual Girlfriend Getaway (7 of us, so there really is plenty of room) and we were quite happy and content the whole time we were there. Great to be able to pick tomatoes and pomegranates from the garden, too! The agent was very kind and helpful, and we would stay there again someday.

Enjoyable experience in Santa Barbara

  • 4 of 5

The nature of our trip was a girls trip of 8 of us, flying in and enjoying some good food and wine tasting. The house worked well, as its somewhat on the way out of town towards Santa Ynez and was large enough to accommodate our group. The bedrooms and bathrooms were large, living area was comfortable as well. Few cons - I was a bit disappointed when it wasn't disclosed that another individual lives in an "apartment" below the main house. There was a person walking around below, while we were there. It also wasn't disclosed that a cat is usually living inside this house. A few guests are allergic and had some side effects all weekend, and we had the cat on our back doormat for two days. Other than that, our group enjoyed our small amount of time spent at the house, between meals and activities that were planned.

Owner's Response: Under amenities it does say that there is a caretaker living on the premises. My apologies for not talking to you about that. Also the cat lives in the garage and is fed by the caretaker. The girls were very energetic and out going. Again, those are two topics I regularly bring up to our guests. All in all they were respectful of our neighbors and enjoyed the grounds and pool.

Amazing House

  • 5 of 5

The house and property are just amazing - the views are incredible and the house is clean, well stocked, and huge. The property manager Hollie even set up an air mattress for us and checked to make sure we had everything we needed. We all agreed we would love to stay here again.

Nice House- Service Was Horrible

  • 1 of 5

First of all..as I am driving up with all my guests I get call saying "I have bad news I am not sure if you will want to stay here anymore..." what does that even mean? I have had this planned for over 6 months with 10 girls about to get to the house and everything in SB sold out. It turns out the AC in the house is broken and it is 100 degrees that wkd, and they knew that 2 guests were pregnant. They told me nobody could come check it until Tuesday. I had to push them to get someone to come that day.Once they came, apparently they could only fix part of the house but she assured me that she would bring me an AC unit for my room...turns out what she brought was a fan which did not help at all !

Next..when we were wine tasting we started getting emergency alerts about big fires. I immediately contacted her and she didn't know what I was talking about. Long story short...when we got to the house the sky was black and there was ashes all over the cars. It was scary. The neighbors came and asked us for our numbers and said they would call us if there were issues or the fires got closer. We went to dinner but brought all of our things with us in case something happened. During dinner, a neighbor called us and said that the roads to the house were all closed and we would not be able to get back to the house. So, I had to call around and find hotels, everything in SB was booked..but we got to a Holiday Inn Express 35 minutes away at 1 in the morning..not ideal. Although I realize that this is not my fault or the home owners...this is a NATURAL DISASTER that was not in any of our control. BUT the way they reacted and didn't help me afterwards was horrible.

It was like pulling teeth asking them to reply to me if they had insurance so they can give me some money back for that second night, especially since we didn't get to sleep there and I had to pay for hotel rooms...NOTHING.

For the AC..they said they would discount $100...which is NOT enough for what it caused for us and they also never actually gave us the credit and now they are ignoring us and not responding at all through email or text or calls.

There is apparently someone living in the backyard as a "caretaker" we were not made aware of and were scared when we saw the person walking in our backyard in the AM. Oh and did I mention there was a cat lurking around all weekend that we didn't know about and some girls were allergic. All in all, so many issues and not happy with how they treated us.

Owner's Response: There were a few things which were out of our control. First, the AC unit went out on one of the hottest days of the year. I was on the phone immediately. As you can guess, the workers were very busy with others having the same problem. To that end, three quarters of the house had air conditioning. Unfortunately the second unit required more work, which couldn’t be done until after Jessica’s departure. The second was a wildfire which started shortly after their arrival. When one route was closed as they were out wine tasting I suggested an alternate route back to the house. I asked a neighbor to check on them.. they were rude and said they didn’t need an “old man” checking on them. They left on their own volition. They said they were uncomfortable staying, which is understandable. We compted them what we thought was fair. After all a hotel would not have given them a free night after they had already paid. I felt like we were an easy target. I called the Home Away insurance number. We were in compliance with the rules. The caretaker is disclosed on our site.sorry about the cat. She was there first. That has been and is her property.
