Feel free to use the utensils and plates. Please wash them thoroughly for the next guest. There is music in the cottage including vinyl records. If they are new to you, handle them with care, enjoy playing them and return them to their original sleeves. The Blue Star Mansion is close to absolutely everything that makes Saugatuck/Douglas and Western Michigan a great vacation destination. Enjoy your stay! When you leave, lock the cottage and place the key in the key box.

We were very happy with it stay. Clean and cozy little cottage that's close to everything. Don took us in with little notice after our original arrangements fell through. We loved everything about it. Loved the local restaurants and close to the parks and water. All around good experience!
Relaxing cottage in the middle of nature
It was a very good experience. The cottage is very comfortable and our stay was very pleasant. The back yard is nice and green and we could relax on the deck together with our small dog Mambo who enjoyed the place very much. The cottage is clean and well- appointed. The air conditioning works well, the bed is very comfortable. The area outside is green and beautiful and very quiet and safe. The owner is friendly, quick to respond and cares for the quality of his guests’
vacation. Douglas is a charming little village, full of flowers and green spaces. The beach is close and so is Saugatuck, 1.5 miles away.
All in all it was a wonderful vacation and we plan to go back. We visited South Haven, Holland and Saugatuck. All these town are in close to the cottage and very beautiful. We wholeheartedly
recommend Don’s cottage for a wonderful getaway in the middle of nature and close to all amenities!
My husband and I stayed here for a few nights for a little getaway. It’s 2 houses off of the Blue Star Highway, so conveniently located, although about a 20 minute walk to either downtown Douglas or Saugatuck—I would recommend bikes for that trek. Our favorite aspect was probably the record player, with an eclectic array of records to choose from. The linens were clean, although could use a couple extra towels and wash cloths (maybe the house had some; I didn’t ask). Keurig coffee and pods provided, which was nice. My only complaint would be the bathroom could have used a pretty thorough cleaning—but since we were hardly there and it served its purpose, I didn’t complain. Don was friendly and responded to my inquiries timely; no issues arose during our stay. I would recommend the property.
Great place, great area
Cute little well appointed cottage that is walking distance to practically everything (at least it was for us) and if you don’t want to walk you can take the Interurban bus for $1 pp. The Saugatuck/Douglas area is a must visit! There is SO much to do! We will definitely be back. Don had everything all set up. Check in was a breeze and everything was exactly as listed. We had no need to bother him, but I have no doubt if we needed anything he would have been available to assist.
The cottage was perfect for my husband, myself and our Boston Terrier. We couldn’t have asked for any better owner than Don. He made us feel welcome and was quick to answer any questions. We were centrally locates for every direction of the things we were wanting to do!
Bruce and Vicki were the perfect guests at my cottage. I oftentimes do not meet my
guests, but was able to meet them when they arrived in Douglas. We had a nice conversation and introduction. I was able to tell them first hand about some of my favorite restaurants and attractions. One evening Bruce and I chatted a bit and I learned about his sixteen years of service on his local school board, and some sage advice about
knowing ones own health and the 3 P's, and the value of owning a hot tub. I told them they'd be welcome back anytime!!!
This little cottage is a great place to crash and rest-up for another day of adventures. There was room in the driveway to park our canoe trailer and the backyard was a perfect spot for the dogs to stretch their legs. Saugatuck/Douglas is a wonderful vacation spot! We biked the Kal-Haven trail, canoed the Kalamazoo River, went antiquing, rode the Star of Saugatuck, hiked the dunes at Saugatuck State Park, laid on the beach and played in the surf and visited the Felt Estate. We also visited breweries: New Holland, Saugatuck, Bells...So much to see and do! Thanks, Don, for sharing your cute, little place.
These comments warm my heart. They really took advantage of this great area! I'm so glad they liked my cottage, affectionately called the Blue Star Mansion. For me it's not difficult to tell people how amazing Saugatuck/Douglas is. My little cottage was a dream come true for me, I have wanted a place here to call home for over 30 years and the opportunity came in 2016. I get to sneak up during the Fall and Winter and light a fire in the wood burner! The good news for my guests is my cottage is available as a weekly rental. I do block some time for myself on the calendar.
Saugatuck/ Douglas is a tourist/shopping destination. There are Dunes buggy rides, on the Blue Star Highway,
Boat rides on the paddle wheel "Star of Saugatuck" docked downtown, rides on an amphibious "Duck". All within 2 miles of the cottage.
Many visitors enjoy the walk to the beach at Saugatuck Dunes State Park.
