Letmalaga Rural Charm:
This rural house is located in Gaucín, a town located in the mountains of Andalusia in the province of Málaga in southern Spain. It has a maximum capacity of 8 guests, with two double beds, two single beds and a sofa bed in which two people can comfortable sleep. It has 2 baths and 1 toilet, a fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, fridge and freezer, coffee maker, dishes and mixer. There are two living rooms, one of them with heater and TV and another one with a sofa and a small table. Moreover, you can enjoy magnificent views from both of these rooms. The terrace is an ideal place to appreciate the contrast between the vegetation of mount Hacho and the white houses of the small village.
Gaucín is inland from Marbella, Puerto Banús and Estepona and not far from Ronda. It is the first village you can find in the mountain chain of Ronda if you follow the road that links Campo de Gibraltar with Ronda. It is one of the white villages that complete the landscapes of the mountains along the Genil River.
Gaucín presents a really varied landscape with cork oaks, holm oaks, pine forests and a mix of bushes with chestnut trees and olive trees, apart of orchards and rural houses and a wide range of typical trees surrounding the river.
The village has a population of approximately 2,000. It lies about 600 metres above sea level in the Sierra del Hacho, dominated by the Castillo del Aguila (Eagle's Castle), originally a Romanstronghold, expanded by the Arabs. Its streets have an irregular and sinuous sketch dating from medieval times. They adapt to the shape of the hilland its white houses are decorated with iron balconies, traditionally made by ironsmiths. Regarding its attractions San Sebastián Church (erected in the XVI century) needs to be highlighted, along with Las Carmelitas abbey, La Fuente de los Seis Caños (a fountain) and the houses of nobles from the XVII-XVIII centuries with lintels and the scutcheons of their houses carved in rock.
Its gastronomy is similar to the ones inside Ronda's region. The most typical products are pork, handmade sweets like "alfajores" (sweets made out of almonds usually eaten in Christmas), "roscos blancos" (also typical Christmas sweets prepared with sweet wine), "rosquillos de almendras" (almond-based sweet in the shape of a doughnut) and "suspiros" (meringue).
Gaucín is known for its views of Gibraltar, the Strait of Gibraltar and Morocco, as well the surrounding mountain scenery. It can be used as a base for visits to the so-called pueblos blancos of Andalusia. The village is reached by a 24 km climb up a mountain road and presided over by a medieval castle. The population is augmented by a growing group of British expatriates. In the tourist shops, cork items are popular, because cork forests surround the village.
Gaucín has been the inspiration of a number of artists and writers, and has been referred to as the "balcony of the Ronda Mountains, where the Holy Child appeared to St. John of God: the illustrious, always noble, very hospitable village of Gaucín."
Other activities you can enjoy in the village are mountain bike, climbing, hiking, gastronomy-related activities or fishing.
The Genal River is only 10 minutes away by car, while the villages Casares and Manilva are only 15 minutes away. Sabinillas beach is 20 minutes away (also by car).
