Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Lizard Peninsula - Apartment 11 Coverack Headland

A romantic & stylish self-catering rental apartment on Coverack Headland.

Looking for an idyllic holiday break for two? My beautiful holiday home near the lovely, unspoiled village of Coverack, Cornwall, could be the answer. 180 degree views of sea, sky and coastline greet you from the wide south facing bay window in the bright sitting room and from the large balcony. The grounds lead down to a private sandy beach at low tide. The romantic, stylish south-facing apartment, which is on the first floor of a restored and converted Edwardian Hotel, has been completely refurnished. The living room and bedroom have uninterrupted southerly sea views and two doors open onto the balcony - perfect for breakfast. Offering, open-plan living in the comfortable sitting room which has a streamlined kitchen area with hob, oven, microwave, fridge, dish-washer, (ground floor laundry) and TV, DVD, Radio/CD, telephone, and free Wi-Fi Broadband. The shower room contains a strikingly modern hand basin, illuminated mirror, shower, shaver socket and heated towel rail.

The bedroom furniture includes a King Size bed with memory mattress, bedside tables, wall lights, mirrors, chest of drawers and radio/alarm clock etc. A full length wardrobe is situated in the hall next to the bedroom.

Double glazing and four electric storage heating make the cooler months cosy.

RECENT CHANGES: I have installed all new living room furniture including dining table and chairs, sofa and arm chair. New crockery, cutlery, cooking pans, (updated annually), dishwasher and toaster for the kitchen. The plumbing has been updated including a new Saniflo system and hot water pressure pump. Additionally most of the bed linen is replaced each year. A telescope is provided as well as binoculars. A Samsung 32'" TV and Panasonic DVD/Video player are also provided. New living room blinds and balcony chairs. Made to measure curtains in the bedroom and a dressing mirror have also been recently installed.

A utility cupboard in the hall contains all you may possibly need: Iron, Ironing board, hoover, spare light bulbs, small step ladder and even torches in case you take an evening walk.

Luxury in Cornwall!

You will have the free use of the Tennis Court in the grounds but need to bring your own equipment. You can reserve the court using the book by the payphone on the ground floor.

About Bryan Tyrrell

I am retired and live with my partner in North West Essex, England. Interests include Vintage and Classic cars, walking and cooking. I have loved Cornwall since being a child and some of my family live near Falmouth.

Bryan Tyrrell purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Bryan Tyrrell chose Lizard Peninsula

For many years we enjoyed holidays in various locations in Cornwall. In 1988 we rented an apartment on Coverack Headland and fell in love with the location, views, peace, walks and the unspoilt nature of the area. We have continued to enjoy our holidays on the Headland ever since. Just after retirement, the apartment we now own came onto the market for sale. We and other owners consider it has possibly the best views of any of the few properties on the Headland.

Whatever the weather, the scenery is always interesting. Sunrise over the sea is beautiful and really encourages you to get out of bed and have breakfast on the balcony. The little fishing boats come out from Coverack Harbour and empty their lobster pots etc., and ships of all sizes pass from time to time. Hawks can be seen hovering, looking for prey and just occasionally you might see a basking shark or seal in the bay below.

What makes this apartment unique

If you enjoy unspoilt areas offering fresh air and relaxation you will have difficulty finding a better location. In good weather, imagine drifting to sleep with the bedroom door to the balcony open and listening to the waves breaking on the shore!

Wake up to sunrise in the bedroom between March and October!

The coastal walks are regarded by many as the best they have enjoyed!

The claim of 180 deg. sea and coastal views from the apartment is true. Not a single roof top or other obstruction in any direction!

Guestbook comments from the owner

'It's November - the waves are crashing onto the dramatic Headland and I'm sitting cosily behind the hugest bay window, taking it all in! Fantastic apartment with everything you could need...I don't usually like going back to the same place twice - this apartment is the exception! - Gill Davis, Farnborough, Hants

'The apartment is beautiful and the views amazing. We had a lovely time and slept better than for ages, thanks to the comfortable bed.' - Dr A Loyal, Bristol.

'What a refreshing break! The apartment had the most stunning views imaginable and was also very peaceful. We walked onto the Headland and stroked the ponies, went down to the beach to swim, walked into the village for lunch at the pub and also tasted the delights of Roskilly's delicious cream teas and Jersey ice cream. The apartment itself was extremely stylish and well-equipped. We would definitely return and recommend.' - W. Isles, Wimbledon, SW London

"This has been one of the best weeks of my life! We loved the view of the village from the balcony in the morning - totally relaxing. At night we sat out under the stars, which was so beautiful. The flat is more than amazing. We are very thankful for the sensational week." - Abdul and Manar, Manchester, March 22. 08.

"We had an excellent break away from it all, so much so that we decided to stay for another day to continue enjoying the apartment and the amazing view." - Debbie and Damian, Bournemouth 28 March, 08

"We have greatly enjoyed our time in Coverack. We could have just sat and looked out of the window the whole time! The walking on the Coastal Path was fantastic and we have really relaxed and recharged our batteries. An experience and a location which we will talk about again and again." - Paul and Chris, Ilfracombe. Feb 24, 08.

"We came here for a rest after a very busy year and have had such a nice, relaxing time. The apartment is fantastic and has everything you could want." - Anne-Marie and Joe, Manchester. 1 December, 07

Fabulous location

This property is wonderful, the view from the bay window is glorious, a perfect place to relax. The location on the edge of the village is so quiet With just a short scenic walk down to the village facillities.. I would definitely return again and again.

Owner's Response: This was Justin and Alison's first holiday at No. 11 and I think in the area surrounding Coverack, Cornwall. Very pleased to hear that they hope to return in the future! Anyone thinking of a peaceful holiday in Cornwall with beautiful scenery should consider the Coverack area. B Tyrrell

Magnificent!!

What can we say that has not already been said. What a wonderful apartment; we have stayed in many apartments and cottages over the years but this must rate as one of the best. It is so well equipped, spacious and comfortable down to the last detail. The views are absolutely stunning and no photograph really portrays the reality of the natural beauty of the coastline - just WOW!!!

Wow!

  • 5 of 5

As other reviews have made abundantly clear this is a fantastically equipped, and very comfortable apartment, in a simply stunning location. You'll find you spend an incredible amount of time just gazing out the window.

We couldn't fault any apect of the apartment as the owners attention to detail and customer service was second to none.

As regular visitors to the Lizard area I'm sure we will return here at some point and have no hesitation in recommending both the apartment and the area in general.

Lots of comments have previously been made about what's available locally. Our personal suggestions are:

Walk from the apartment to Kennack Sands along the coast path.

Travel to, and park in, Lizard village then walk via the lighthouse to Kynance Cove. Gorgeous location and a great cafe just above the beach.

Owner's Response: I thank these guests from the West Midlands for their excellent review. This was the first holiday for them at my apartment but as regular visitors to the Lizard Peninsular in Cornwall, it is good to hear that they have enjoyed their holiday at No. 11. Certainly the Coverack area on the Lizard is largely unspoilt, also offering peace and quiet along with friendly people when you meet the them in the streets and shops etc. Why not enjoy a relaxing holiday on the Lizard, possibly at my apartment? I only have one week left in July for 2016 as a result of a cancellation for health reasons. Please contact me regarding 2017! Bryan T.

Beautiful location, beautiful apartment

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to Bryan’s beautiful apartment. The apartment is absolutely as described - fully equipped, clean, light and airy and supremely comfortable. Bryan has thought of everything, right down to a telescope and binoculars and plenty of local walking maps, which we used extensively. The views from the apartment are very spectacular situated as it is on this gorgeous stretch of coastline. Bryan responded quickly to our enquiries, and instructions for key collection were clearly given. We plan on returning and staying longer. Highly recommended. Thanks Bryan once again.

Owner's Response: These guests were from Australia and as they say, this was their third visit. During their stay, they were able to see the 'Super Moon' in late September, reflecting across the sea on a clear night. I am always pleased when guests enjoy their holidays and the facilities at No. 11 and look forward to them returning for a longer stay in the future. Hopefully potential future guests will read this and other reviews, which may provide some peace of mind when thinking of making a booking. Bryan T.

Lovely holiday in Coverack.

  • 5 of 5

No 11 was the best equipped apartment we have stayed in, it was also very clean and comfortable. We are missing the amazing views already that we woke up to each morning. Brian had thought of everything to make our holiday just perfect, from recommending walks and places to eat which were brilliant. He didn't warn us about the aching legs though ha! ha! but it was so worth it.

Many thanks Brian we would love to return sometime.

Owner's Response: Pauline and Rob were new guests this year and appear to have enjoyed their holiday at my apartment, situated on Coverack Headland. There are a number of walking guide books available in the property, which indicate the 'degree' of difficulty. Some long or with steep coastal paths, others relatively flat and/or short. In reasonable weather, there are many different routes to explore/enjoy in the area. Many thanks. Bryan T.

Super Holiday

  • 5 of 5

This is a stunning apartment, the views out to sea take your breath away. The apartment is amply big enough for two people and the fixtures and fittings are of excellent quality. (There was for the first time ever in our holiday bookings enough coat hangers and a teapot that poured without scalding anyone ) We had a small problem with the heated towel rail in the bathroom but a call to Bryan had it rectified the next morning, indeed the husband of the house keeper not only fixed the rail straight away he volunteered the names of several nice eateries local to the area. We had a super holiday here, breakfast on the balcony and nice walks down into Coverack for lunch or dinner. We were so pleased with all this holiday had to offer we rebooked before we left. ( The apartment also has WiFi another plus!! )

Owner's Response: Lynn and Christopher actually holidayed at No. 11, from the 22nd August - 5th September. As they mention, there was a small problem with the towel rail in the shower room, which was resolved within a few hours. My caretakers and other local tradespeople do their best to make sure guests are not inconvenienced for a long time, in the unlikely event of a problem occurring. I am delighted that these guests have already booked the similar two week holiday period in 2016. Bryan T.

Coverack, on the Lizard Peninsula, is one of the last unspoiled, still active fishing villages in Cornwall, yet you are within easy reach of major tourist attractions, such as the Eden Project, St. Ives with its many art studios and galleries, The National Maritime Museum - Falmouth, the National Seal Sanctury, Lands End and the Minnack Theatre. You can enjoy the romance of historic houses and gardens or the national heritage sites of Cornwall's tin mining past. There are several wild life sanctuaries and nature reserves on the Lizard and the fishing villages of Coverack, others on the Lizard Peninsular and those close to Penzance such as Mousehole and Newlyn. Newquay, the surfers' paradise, is situated on the north coast as is St. Ives, Sennon cove and of course Lands End a little further west..The South West Coastal Path lies beneath the apartment windows and is a source of excellent walking with breathtaking views. The market town of Helston is about 9 miles away. Local shops are available in Coverack and the village of St. Keverne, (2.5 miles).

Golf: Mullion Golf Club is about 7 miles from the apartment. Tel. 01326 241176. Helston Golf Club is some 12 miles north. Tel. 01326 572228.

Notes:
The apartment is so sunny and warm that it has not needed central heating, but electric night storage heaters throughout the apartment, an electric blanket for the bed, plus effective double glazing mean you needn't shiver in the cooler months. The fridge has small freezer compartment and there's a cooker hood over the stove. There is a second door to the balcony, (south and east facing), with a wooden table and two chairs for meals and drinks. We have a dedicated car parking space and there's a drying area in grounds, which also have a pond and stream. The gardens lead directly to the South Cornish Footpath and private beach. The ground floor laundry room which also contains a mini-library has a commercial washer and dryer (coin-operated). Free internet access via a WiFi connection is available (for which you need your own laptop/PC) and a land line for local/emergency calls. Plus a payphone on the ground floor of the building. 32' TV with all Freeview channels.
