About Owner

We have been running the Oast as a self catering holiday cottage for 6 years now. We do everything we can to make your stay as comfortable as we can, we are here to help, but equally we want guests to have their privacy.

Owner purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Owner chose Heathfield

Close to airports, ferries and London. Set in beautiful countryside, with lovely old pubs. Very generous use of private pool and tennis court. Bikes for hire on the property. Glyndebourne is close by with world class opera. There are many exceptionally beautiful gardens in this part of Sussex. If the pool becomes dull, the beach is within an hours drive too.

Short breaks are available outside high season times.

What makes this cottage unique

The Oast is special because it is old and beautiful and we have tried to furnish it in character with lovely old pieces, together with beautiful Egyptian cotton bed linen. The open plan dining room/ kitchen is a lovely large sunny room and flooded with light. Guests have very generous use of a private swimming pool. The huge 4 poster bed in the top roundel bedroom is a gorgeous luxury. There is a large gas fired BBQ for alfresco dining, and a wood burning stove in the sitting room for cooler nights. The Oast is full of character with beautiful old beams, and gorgeous views of the garden, particularly lovely in spring with daffodils and summer with flowers and roses.

4 bicycles on the property which guests may rent during their stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a lovely stay, for tasting the fruit from the garden and the artichokes, and the warm welcome and your sweet pets.

Full of character, beautiful, well-equipped oast house in the heart of the countryside...

  • 5 of 5

The Oast house is set in a very rural location with nature right on your doorstep. We were lucky enough to see a fox, pheasant and hear a cuckoo!

The house is large with plenty of room for a family of seven and has all the amenities you would expect, fridge, dishwasher, Sky TV and broadband. Didn’t get the chance to try the pool or the tennis court (it was April), but they are just outside the house.

The owners live near the property and gave us a warm welcome when we arrived (even though it was nine o’clock at night) and there was a basket of goodies in the kitchen including Prosecco, biscuits and home made apple juice.

We were only at the house for a long weekend, but would go back again for an extended stay.

Luxury Oast House in beautiful rural setting.

  • 5 of 5

comfortable and easy to live in accommodation where the owners made us feel so welcome. There were three generations of us but visits to local attractions met all our needs. Rye, Lewes, Seven Sisters and Bodium Castle plus a day at Drusilla's for the children all went down well. We even had one evening which was sunny enough to brave the heated outdoor swimming pool . The four poster in the top of the roundal was referred to as the Princess in the Tower room! Cosy evenings with the log burner rounded off busy days before bed time.

Owner's Response: So pleased our guests had a good time. We provide logs for the woodburner so even though it was fairly chilly they were nice and warm with fire and central heating. So glad they could swim, due to the very long cold winter our pool heater has not been able to heat the outdoor pool effectively until night time temps rise above 5 degrees - still swimming in early April in England is a rare event!

The Oast is a stunning property with its period features but all the mod cons as well.

The property is superb. We hired it for 7 to celebrate a 50th Wedding anniversary. Loads of room, rustic homely decor and an excellent setting. Really enjoyed the tennis court and swimming pool. Fiona, the properties owner was very helpful and accommodating. A great weekend. Highly recommended.

Perfect holiday home in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday at the Oast House. Fiona and Robert were very welcoming and accommodating and we appreciated the little touches such as the home made apple juice and Prosecco when we arrived! The Oast house is extremely comfortable and boasts the most well equipped kitchen we've ever stayed in, we even managed to do some baking on the one and only rainy day! The big hit though for our two teenage boys was the pool - they absolutely loved it and it was a godsend during a freak sunny spell in late August. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and were delighted with the Oast House - highly recommended. Jane, Jon, Louis and Charlie

Owner's Response: We're delighted our guests had a great time and enjoyed the pool. We usually use the pool ourselves on a Sunday afternoon/ bank holiday afternoon, but as we were busy in the garden we suggested our guests stayed at home over the bank holiday to maximise the pool, and luckily the weather was fabulous. Glad they liked the kitchen, we always try and follow up on any suggestions for extra utensils etc as cooking together on holiday is great fun.

Perfect country get away

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely weekend away at this pretty little Oast house. I don't think the photos do it justice!

We stayed as a party of 7 ( 4 adults and 3 children) and had a great time. Loads of space inside and outside and thankful that weather was just about warm enough to sample the pool and the tennis court. Setting is fantastic. Lots to do in local area aswell but its not in walking distance to anything as really in the heart of the country so be prepared to drive. very peaceful... Owners very relaxed and helpful and have 2 gorgeous dogs who are happy to hang out with you if you'd like. Would definitely recommend.

Owner's Response: We're delighted our guests had a lovely time, and we really must do some more photos as a couple of people have said the photos understate the size and loveliness of the Oast. There are the odd few people who walk the 1.5 miles to the nearest pub, but its much easier to drive... The Oast definitely suits people who like dogs, as we have 2 dalmatians, and they really like to do meet and greet, and pop down at BBQ time

An idyllic bolthole in a mystical location

  • 5 of 5

Little Bucksteep Oast House provided us with a tranquil, homely base with a beautiful swimming pool and tennis court as an added bonus. Fiona and Robert were charming and their delightful welcoming pack included biscuits and fresh apple juice! As busy teachers we found ourselves in a blissful haven. My grandson and daughter listened regularly to the owls hooting and looking up at the twinkling stars at night. The lush green surroundings complemented the luxurious furnishings in all rooms; it was obvious that the owners cared for their guests in every aspect. We plan to return again and would recommend our 'secret escape ' to any family wishing to experience a part of our heritage in a glorious location. Shhh!!
