Little Bucksteep Oast House is a gem of a self catering holiday cottage in Dallington, East Sussex, rated 4* by Visit England. It is a beautiful old English Country Cottage, dating from the late 17th century, set in the midst of the beautiful private gardens of a gorgeous Queen Anne Manor House. Guests have very generous use of the private swimming pool apart from Sunday afternoons and Bank holiday afternoons. Oast houses are typical of East Sussex and Kent, and were used to dry hops for beer making.

The Oast has many period features including beams, wooden paneling, leaded windows, old stone walls and a wood burning stove and is furnished with lovely old furniture, and luxury Egyptian cotton bed linen. The master bedroom has a beautiful 4 poster bed, and with the windows open you can forget the city and just listen to the birdsong and the peace and quiet. Glyndebourne is 30 minutes away and the sea side and the South Downs about the same. Although the Oast is set in the most beautiful unspoilt & undulating countryside, it is only just over an hour into London on the train and an hours drive from Gatwick airport. About Owner

We have been running the Oast as a self catering holiday cottage for 6 years now. We do everything we can to make your stay as comfortable as we can, we are here to help, but equally we want guests to have their privacy.

Owner purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Owner chose Wealden

Close to airports, ferries and London. Set in beautiful countryside, with lovely old pubs. Very generous use of private pool and tennis court. Bikes for hire on the property. Glyndebourne is close by with world class opera. Beautiful gardens abide in this part of Sussex. If the pool becomes dull, the beach is within an hours drive too.

Short breaks are available outside high season times.

What makes this cottage unique

The Oast is special because it is old and beautiful and we have tried to furnish it in character with lovely old pieces, together with beautiful Egyptian cotton bed linen. The open plan dining room/ kitchen is a lovely large sunny room and flooded with light. Guests have very generous use of a private swimming pool. The huge 4 poster bed in the top roundel bedroom is a gorgeous luxury. There is a large gas fired BBQ for alfresco dining, and a wood burning stove in the sitting room for cooler nights. The Oast is full of character with beautiful old beams, and gorgeous views of the garden, particularly lovely in spring with daffodils and summer with flowers and roses.

We also offer luxury pampering weekends which incorporate fantastic Lotte Berk ballet barre exercise classes, together with massage and beauty treatments.

4 bicycles on the property which guests may rent during their stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just returned from our wonderful stay at the Little Bucksteep Oast House. House and surroundings are fantastic .

Unfortunately we missed Fiona and Robert - we are so sorry about that! But their neighbor Nikki gave us a very warm welcome - thank you Nikki for the nice, little talks and hints!

We want to say thank you, for creating such a perfect Hideaway - for us it was the perfect place to relax.

Wonderful nature and gardens, peace and privacy combined with the amazing Oast House and all its amenities - what more can you expect?

The location is ideal to explore Sussex - there is much more to see and do, than we could manage in one week. Castles, beach and coast, gorgeous medieval towns - all within easy reach.

We even did`t miss our pets at home in Germany - they were represented at best by the two Dalmatians and cats. We enjoyed their daily visits very much - greetings to all of them!!

Back home we showed our photos to my sister - she was really thrilled and we hope to return together one day!

Til then we ´ll preserve our lovely memories...

Owner's Response: We are delighted that our lovely guests had a good stay, and we were sorry to miss them, as we do try and provide a personal service, helping our guests unload on arrival, showing them around, and being on call if they need us. When we are not around our lovely neighbour has been wonderful about greeting and helping the guests, as well as the 2 dalmatians who dash down to the Oast on a regular basis for play and meet and greet. We do hope our guests will return.

Beautiful property in glorious surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully kept, very relaxing, spacious property with a lovely ambience. Great kitchen diner with plenty of room for all the family to be together. Comfortable beds in lovely rooms, 2 of which are round and the 4 poster bed is real luxury. The Vestentofts are generous and welcoming hosts. My son made use of their swimming pool every day and it was lovely to soak up the sun in the loungers by the pool. We all enjoyed making use of the tennis courts and the peaceful setting of the property was a joy. Lovely holiday with great memories. We can recommend this beautiful holiday home without reservation.

A quaint little hideaway

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Little Bucksteep Oast House. Fiona was an incredibly gracious host and greeted us upon arrival with a warm smile.

Once inside the Oast we saw a lovely welcome basket of assorted local items, a very lovely personal touch. would most definitely recommend the property to other families. We all enjoyed the use of the pool and tennis courts throughout the day and enjoyed the surroundings each evening. We all loved the visits from the two dogs and they became welcome guests. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Owner's Response: It was lovely that our guests made such good use of the pool and tennis court, as well as the BBQ and outside eating area. The pool is heated and it was great that they used it and the court in the evenings too, as it was warm enough to swim thanks to the heating as well as the weather.

We all had a great time at Little Bucksteep Oast. The location is very good for visiting the many attractions that East Sussex and Kent have to offer. Brighton, Lewes, Hastings, Battle, Rye, Camber sands and many more are within easy reach from LBO and yet LBO is in a very peaceful location. LBO is surrounded by beautiful gardens which are in themselves set in rural surroundings. The property itself is a converted oast mostly dating back several hundred years however it has a modern feel to it. Two of the three bedrooms are located in the 'oast'. One is a double in a very generously sized room and the other is located upstairs towards the top of the oast and contains the most enormous 4 poster bed I have ever seen! It felt as though I needed to text my wife to check to see if she was in the other side of the bed! I would however like to point out that in my 30 years of marriage holiday beds have tended to be a bit of a let down in terms of comfort on my wife's part. Not this bed at LBO! 'One of the most comfortable ever' according to my dearly beloved! The third bedroom is located off a landing as you go up to the top bedroom. This is a delightful twin (+1) room which floods with light from 3 windows.

Back downstairs there is a large sitting room in the main part of the old oast. This is complete with log burner and I would think would be al lovely cosy room on a cold evening (we were blessed by good weather so didn't have the need to test this out!). Past the lounge there is a really good shower room (upstairs there is a modern bathroom with shower over bath) and a utility area with washing machine. This then leads through into a great kitchen/ dining/living space where we spent most of our evening time (when not outdoors). This is a superb space for gathering to eat, talk, play games etc. The kitchen has everything you could need (including dishwasher!) and the dining table could easily seat 10 or more around it. The sitting area is comfortable and overlooks patio and gardens. Outside the 3 burner gas BBQ was well used (there is also a traditional Weber charcoal type of BBQ if this is your preference) and of course the tennis court and swimming pool. Overall a great time was had by all. Our group was 2 x 53yrs, 2 x 21 yrs and 2 x 18yrs but I would think all age ranges could enjoy a stay at LBO. Our only disappointment was that we could only be there for 1 week - you really need more!

PS Nearly forgot the 2 lovely Dalmations and the cat!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the lovely review, I realise reading this that our description of LBO probably doesn't do it full justice, as our tenants have described it far better - glad they mentioned the super king size 4 poster, loved by old and young alike, the young girls feel like a princess in a fairy tale there. I should add that we make a point of buying really good quality cotton sheets, so I'm delighted our guests noticed that too. Most guests fall in love the with Dalmatians, who love children, will follow you everywhere, and are nearly always on hand to help with the BBQ!

Wonderful relaxing stay!

Two families with 3 kids had a really enjoyable and memorable time here at the Oasthouse. Despite the poor weather, kids loved the pool and tennis court, the house was quality throughout. Spacious and characterful, everything was provided for. Wifi and mobile access a bit patchy but ok. Lovely hosts. Thank you we felt right at home.

A rural escape in a very comfortable oast house with lovely countryside views, pool & tennis courts

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a great week in the oast house. Our adult children stayed over the weekend and enjoyed using the tennis court. Very spacious holiday property with lovely views, very comfortable four poster bed and well equipped kitchen. Very useful having 2 living areas so anyone not wanting to watch TV could escape into a different room. We had exceptionally good weather for early May and therefore managed to make use of the pool as well as the tennis courts, Had a very nice meal at the Horse and Groom, Rushlake Green and afternoon tea at Fir Trees Tea Room in Penshurst, near Tunbridge Wells. Appreciated the home made apple juice & jam in fridge on arrival plus other goodies left by Fiona & Robert for our arrival. I'd recommend it for families and groups of friends.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a nice time, it is very useful having 2 living areas, and as both have TV and DVD you can escape what the children are watching. We've also got Wifi and Wifi boosters in the upstairs bedrooms. This lovely weather has meant the pool is lovely and warm too.
