Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Wiltshire - Enford House Cottage

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, Sleeps 6 + 1

With 3 ensuite bedrooms, and set within a beautiful thatched walled garden and with a fantastic pub 2 mins walk away Enford House Cottage is the perfect place for a relaxing & peaceful break in the english countryside but is also within easy reach of many tourist attractions including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury and Bath

The cottage is an attached wing of the 18th Century, Grade 2 listed manor house (Enford House) and is a home away from home with comfortable beds, good quality bedlinen and towels and a well equipped kitchen as well as WiFi and a games room with Table Tennis and Table Football and a swing and slide in the garden

The property is surrounded by the wall garden which is situated next to the village church and beyond that fields. The village pub, which serves good food, is 2 minutes walk away. The cottage is child friendly - the garden is enclosed by the wall and there is a thatched games room for visitors to use with table tennis and table football and also a swing and slide in the garden and also a football goal. Wifi is available throughout the property.

The garden is completely enclosed and the entrance gate can be shut for those with young children or dogs.

The village of Enford is in the Avon Valley - the village is surrounded by countryside and there are lots of places to walk or bicycle. Stonehenge is an hours walk or 10 min drive.

The village has 2 great local pubs. The Swan, which is 2 minutes' walk, and The Red Lion, in the next door village of East Chisenbury, which is 2 minutes' drive or a 20 minute walk. Both do good food - the Red Lion has a Michelin pub award for its food and is a well known Wiltshire pub which people come a long way to visit. There is no shop in the village itself but there are local shops in neighbouring villages less than 5 minutes drive away, major supermarkets in the local towns and all the supermarkets do delivery to the door. And for those looking for a winter get away the cottage is very warm with central heating throughout, an electric log burner in the sitting room and double glazing so is very cosy!

The cottage is ideally situated for the following places of interest

•Stonehenge (10 mins drive) and Avebury (25 mins drive) Stone Circles (World Heritage sites),

•Salisbury Cathedral, Old Sarum and the Medieval cities of Salisbury & Wilton (25 min drive)

•Historic Market towns of Devizes, Pewsey, and Marlborough (20 min drive)

•Kennet Canal (20 min drive)

•Longleat House, Adventure Playground and Safari Park (40 min drive)

•National Trust village of Lacock (50 min drive)

•Stourhead (50 min drive)

•Bath & Winchester (both 1 hour drive)

•Plus lots of children's activities including family friendly farms, Paultons Park (for Peppa Pig World) and many more - the information booklet in the cottage lists all of these

About Mary Campbell

Simon and Mary Campbell, who own Enford House Cottage, live in the main house next door with their children. The picture shows the main part of the house in which they live. The cottage and main house have seperate entrances it feels very seperate although we are attached at the back. There is a trampoline and Swing and slide in the garden which all guests are welcome to use.

Mary Campbell purchased this cottage in 1969

Why Mary Campbell chose Wiltshire

My husbands parents bought the property when he was a baby and he grew up here and inherited it in 2005. His grandmother used to live in the cottage

What makes this cottage unique

With the thatched walled garden and special door in the wall to take you through to the churchyard Enford is a very special place. The cottage has a lovely feeling about it and everyone comments on how comfortable the beds are!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very happy holiday in this lovely cottage. Coming from belgium we were very excited by the walled garden and lovely old house the cottage is part of. Really well equipped in the cottage and we felt at home very soon. We visited the beautiful countryside and lots of 'old stones'!

A lovely character cottage set in a lovely village, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen. Friendly owner who left fresh milk and eggs in the fridge for our arrival. Good position to reach many of Wiltshire's sites of interest.

A Perfect Long Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage was the perfect location to celebrate our parents surprise 40th wedding anniversary. Mary, the owner was very helpful and friendly throughout the booking process and during our stay. The cottage is lovely and set in a beautiful village in the Wiltshire countryside. There is a lovely pub (The Swan) which is within 2 mins walking distance and many lovely villages within a short drive. There was a group of 6 of us and 2 dogs and we found the cottage to be very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is equipt with everything you need to cook a meal including a few larder items and there is a large dining table. On arrival we were given a box of eggs fresh from the chickens in the garden, a bottle of milk and there was a tin of biscuits and tea and coffee which was perfect after a long drive! The lounge is very cosy and perfect for relaxing in after a day of exploring. For all you gadget lovers the tv also had a chromecast so we were able to use this to access our Netflix account/All4 etc. The bedrooms were all a good size and had stunning views of the countryside or the beautiful gardens. It was also very handy to have an ensuite bathroom in each of them. Another bonus was the gamesroom, being massive fans of table football and table tennis this was the icing on the cake! Even though our stay was in January there is a heater in there which enabled us to make full use of it! This is a great location if you are looking to take your dog with you as there is a large walled garden which they are allowed to run in and great walks directly from the cottage. To sum up we loved the cottage and the only thing we found dissapointing was having to leave!! Would definitely recommend if planning a trip to this area of the country!

Great cottage for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just as described and suited our family (6 adults) weekend gathering perfectly. It had everything we needed and the games room was a real plus point, even in December. Its well equipped and ideally located for visiting nearby tourist attractions. The Swan pub is also conveniently located just 3 minutes walk away. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and will book again in the future.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We were traveling together family of 5 and grandparents, total 7 people. We got warm welcomings, fresh eggs and milk in the refrigerator. The house was wonderful and the kids absolutely loved the playroom. We took several day tours and it was always lovely to be back home. If we needed information about something, restaurants etc. we could always go to Mary who was very helpful. We would definitely recommend this property to others.

We didn't want to leave:-)

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage, friendly host and all the facilities you need for an overnight stay or a long holiday. Clean and spacious, lovely outdoor spaces, ideal for the peaceful weekend break our family had here. The rooms were more than comfortable, and all 6 of us slept really well. A nice touch to have milk, biscuits and fresh eggs when we arrived, and to be able to have a cuppa after a long journey! We were offered lots of home grown produce on the last day so left with more than we came with, but it was very appreciated! We will definitely be rebooking, but hopefully for a longer break. We would all recommend this property completely!:-) fantastic value for money.
