Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, Sleeps 6 + 1

With 3 ensuite bedrooms, and set within a beautiful thatched walled garden and with a wonderful award winning pub 2 mins walk away Enford House Cottage is the perfect place for a relaxing & peaceful break in the english countryside but is also within easy reach of many tourist attractions including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury and Bath

The cottage is an attached wing of the 18th Century, Grade 2 listed manor house (Enford House) and is a home away from home with comfortable beds, good quality bedlinen and towels and a well equipped kitchen as well as WiFi and a games room with Table Tennis, Pool Table and Table Football and a swing and slide in the garden

The property is surrounded by the wall garden which is situated next to the village church and beyond that fields. The village pub, which serves good food and has just won Wiltshire's 'pub of the year' 2016, is 2 minutes walk away. The cottage is child friendly - the garden is enclosed by the wall and there is a thatched games room for visitors to use with table tennis and table football and also a swing and slide in the garden and also a football goal. Wifi is available throughout the property.

The garden is completely enclosed and the entrance gate can be shut for those with young children or dogs.

The village of Enford is in the Avon Valley - the village is surrounded by countryside and there are lots of places to walk or bicycle. Stonehenge is an hours walk or 10 min drive.

The village has 2 great local pubs. The Swan, which is 2 minutes' walk, and The Red Lion, in the next door village of East Chisenbury, which is 2 minutes' drive or a 20 minute walk. Both do good food - the Red Lion has a Michelin pub award for its food and is a well known Wiltshire pub which people come a long way to visit. There is no shop in the village itself but there are local shops in neighbouring villages less than 5 minutes drive away, major supermarkets in the local towns and all the supermarkets do delivery to the door. And for those looking for a winter get away the cottage is very warm with central heating throughout, an electric log burner in the sitting room and double glazing so is very cosy!

The cottage is ideally situated for the following places of interest

•Stonehenge (10 mins drive) and Avebury (25 mins drive) Stone Circles (World Heritage sites),

•Salisbury Cathedral, Old Sarum and the Medieval cities of Salisbury & Wilton (25 min drive)

•Historic Market towns of Devizes, Pewsey, and Marlborough (20 min drive)

•Kennet Canal (20 min drive)

•Longleat House, Adventure Playground and Safari Park (40 min drive)

•National Trust village of Lacock (50 min drive)

•Stourhead (50 min drive)

•Bath & Winchester (both 1 hour drive)

•Plus lots of children's activities including family friendly farms, Paultons Park (for Peppa Pig World) and many more - the information booklet in the cottage lists all of these

About Mary Campbell

Simon and Mary Campbell, who own Enford House Cottage, live in the main house next door with their children. The picture shows the main part of the house in which they live. The cottage and main house have seperate entrances it feels very seperate although we are attached at the back. There is a trampoline and Swing and slide in the garden which all guests are welcome to use.

Mary Campbell purchased this cottage in 1969

Why Mary Campbell chose Wiltshire

My husbands parents bought the property when he was a baby and he grew up here and inherited it in 2005. His grandmother used to live in the cottage

What makes this cottage unique

With the thatched walled garden and special door in the wall to take you through to the churchyard Enford is a very special place. The cottage has a lovely feeling about it and everyone comments on how comfortable the beds are!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very happy holiday in this lovely cottage. Coming from belgium we were very excited by the walled garden and lovely old house the cottage is part of. Really well equipped in the cottage and we felt at home very soon. We visited the beautiful countryside and lots of 'old stones'!

Enford Cottage was quaint, lovely, and very comfortable with all the conveniences of home.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a perfect location for our travels to Salisbury, Stonehenge, the Cotswolds, Oxford, Blenheim Palace, and Bath. There is a wonderful pub (the Swan) within walking distance and a corner store in a nearby town. Mary Campbell, the owner, is very friendly and helpful, accommodating all our needs and even had tea, coffee, milk, and biscuits for us when we arrived. The cottage was pristine, the beds were comfortable, and the garden views were lovely. Mary had a very informative notebook and various brochures on local history and attractions at the cottage. We will certainly recommend Enford Cottage to any of our friends who are planning a trip to this area.

Perfect cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed as 3 couples for 4 nights in April when the weather was reasonably kind. We managed golf at the nearby Upavon course, cycling through the lanes, walking over the Plain and the women even managed a spa trip to Norton Park near Winchester. Only managed to scratch the surface of this area though for which the cottage is perfectly situated. The cottage was wholly comfortable with both the kitchen and lounge easily big enough for us to use as communal rooms. The fittings and equipment throughout the cottage was more than enough for us to enjoy and be able to prepare full meals. And if you don't want to cook the Swan a few minutes walk away serves excellent food and beer, and if you have a wallet the size of a small suitcase, you might enjoy the Red Lion in the next village. A thoroughly enjoyable few days, with thanks to Mary for your help in contributing to our break.

Spacious and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is lovely, really spacious rooms and a well stocked kitchen in a very peaceful setting. Mary and Simon are perfect hosts, unobtrusive but there if you need them. We had a good week weather wise, so went out most days, visiting Cheddar Gorge, Longleat, Avebury, Paultons Park and Salisbury. There are also good walks in the local area and the local pub is very friendly with a good choice of drinks. Highly recommended for families or friends getting together, as all the bedrooms have en suites so no arguments in the morning!

A great cottage - well equipped with lots of toys and a games room. Wonderful owners and a pub with great food a short walk away. Plus very close to Stonehenge! All in all a wonderful location for a short family break with young children.

We Loved It Here!

  • 5 of 5

This was such a fantastic place to stay. We have a family of 6 (2 adults, 4 teens), there was plenty of room. The house is gorgeous and well maintained. Mary and her husband were so friendly and helpful. We would love to stay here again if we were ever in the area. Simply excellent.
