Le Phénix (1774) is a lovingly restored (in 2013) cottage full of charm and character. Originally a small barn, it has been renovated to a high standard. With a mixture of the old and the new, it has a bright and light feel to it but still retains many of its old features, such as the traditional stone walls, oak beams and a fabulous bread oven. With 2 large double bedrooms groundfloor and mezzanine), a fully equipped open plan kitchen, comfortable sitting area and a spacious bathroom, this holiday home would suit 2 couples or a family with up to 2 children. Outside, Le Phénix has a large backyard with fruit trees and a charming in ground plunge pool (4.00 diameter, 1.20 deep) At the front the cottage has a sunny southfacing terrace where you can sit with a glass of wine on a warm summers evening and enjoy the spectacular views of the valley and the surrounding countryside.

About Tineke Dufour Liefhebber
Dear guest, We haven't met yet and therefor I like to introduce myself. I am Tineke Dufour Liefhebber. Partly I live in France, but most of the year I am in the Netherlands, where I work as company advisor/coach. I am specialised in devellopment of individuals and teams but also in the culture of company and society. When my late husband and I bought this property in 2000, at the start of the new millennium, we really regarded it as buying a breathtaking view which just happened to have some timeless périgourdine stone buildings attached. It took a lot of work to make those buildings habitable, and especially comfortable enough to welcome guests, but we wanted to make a little piece of paradise in south-west France – and so that’s what we set about doing. When my husband passed away four years later, family and friends picked up where he had left off. They helped me to realize our dream. Today, it’s a perfect rural hideaway for peace seekers. For anyone who loves sun, swim, wine, fine cuisine, hiking, birdwatching, communing with nature – or just getting away from it all with a good book! And ofcourse, it is a great place for children as well. Come help me enjoy it. Welcome in paradise!

Why Tineke Dufour Liefhebber chose Thenon
What guests are telling me: "Blown away by the view, Little corner in Paradise, On top of the world, Area was magic, We went again, and again, Peaceful oasis, Breathtaking; Crazy dreams of never leaving, Idyllic setting-hard to beat! Exceeded our expectations, Wonderful place, Stunning views." I only can agree!
What makes this Cottage unique
First of all the view. And yes the view ofcourse. Located on top of a southfacing hill in the very heart of the Dordogne but not in a hectic touristic area. Private but not isolated it offers best of two worlds. Shops 3km, Lascaux 15km. The peace of this stunning location was a balm for everybody who visited. There is only one disadvantage. Holidays are much too short to see everything. Welcome in this little paradise.

Lovely accommodation with exceptional views
We arrived at Maisonneuve for a big family gathering, we took Over all 3 properties for our holiday.
The houses are lovely, the pools are great but were a little chilly to start with, all 3 pools have their own safety alarms which is a great feature to have if you have children.
All 3 houses were lovely and clean on arrival and we also cleaned during our visit the cleaners didn’t speak much English but we managed to communicate well.
Our only observations where that l’phenix and le hermite could do with an oven aswell as the convection microwave and hob that they both currently have - simply because of the number of people staying in those properties at one time could be a bit hard to cook anything other than using convection or hob if you wanted to eat a meal together.
The main house le tournant has an oven which we were able to use as we had use of all 3 houses but this wouldn’t be possible if you were there independently.
There was plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing, and our little ones loved the play area.
The views are absolutely spectacular both during the day and at sunset from all of the houses
The area is gorgeous with lots to go out and see and do
Would recommend to anyone if they were after a peaceful getaway.
I am happy to hear you had a great time at Maisonneuve. But I don't understand your point about the ovens. I admit the size of the oven in L'Hermite is somewhat small but the oven in Le Phenix has the same size as the one in the big house. All I can imagine is you didn't notice the oven and microwave in Le Phenix are combined in one device. That is a pity. But hopefully this missing part was compensated by the BBQ that every house has. Most welcome another time. You were pleasant guests.
Beautiful views in the natural environment of Dordogne
My husband and I stayed in the smallest cottage and enjoyed the darling decor and the lovely views across the valley. The home is completely updated and very comfortable. Every day we took gorgeous drives to the chateaus and nearby towns and caves. The groundskeeper, Martin, was very helpful and offered great advice!
What a wonderful place this is! The perfect spot if you are looking for quietness and marvelous views, and it is close to a charming French village. We really enjoyed the garden, with the nice flowers and a lot of butterflies and last but not least the barbecue made of stone! Inside, the house has a good atmosphere. The old baking oven is still visible inside the livingroom. The place is big enough for two couples or a couple with two or three kids. Thanks for the opportunity to stay here, we will certainly come again another time!
It was my pleasure you were my guests. I am happy you loved the place. Because a place needs the experience of guests before it can claim to be indeed great. Please, know yourself welcome another time.
Peaceful island in rural surroundings
Very cozy, clean cottage within a beautiful, quiet landscape. We booked for a week, but extended our stay because we enjoyed our time there. Surrounded by nature, there are still a lot of possible activities (canoo, biking, etc.) within a 40km radius. Supermarket and restaurants 5min drive away. Both owner and housekeeper are very pleasent and courteous (english, dutch, french spoken). We will be back!
No need to say- I hope- we enjoyed your stay as well. And of course you are most welcome to return. When you need to know more by that time about specific themes/activities in the surrounding ( ancien music, folk music, festivals, culture, mime, theater, fishing etc. etc) don't hesitate to contact us. We can help to find out the most optimal period for your stay.
Charming cottage with beautiful views.
We stayed here for a week in May, the cottage is brand new this year and lovely inside. The views from the terrace and the gardens are also really beautiful, its a very quiet and peaceful location. But still close to all the tourist places at Les Eyzies, Sarlat and Domme, really beautiful part of the world, we will definitely be back !!
It is pleasant to hear you enjoyed your stay in Le Phénix. The cultural high lights you mention underlines the magic or this 'old' area . The pre-historic cave of Lascaux for exemple-only 14 km away- shows impressive drawings of around 15000 years back. So, paradise must have been in the Dordogne. Or at least paradise is in the Dordogne.
The property is just 2 miles from the sleepy village of Thenon, where you will find a bakery, supermarket, post office and a bank, as well as a variety of restaurants serving traditional local dishes. Despite the quiet surroundings, we are ideally situated for all the main tourist sites. A short drive will take you to the famous medieval town of Sarlat, the caves at Les Eyzies and Montignac, walk the cobbled streets of the ancient Roman city of Perigueux or visit one of the many chateaux near Beynac and Domme. For the more adventurous, take a canoe trip down the beautiful River Vezere or enjoy the views from the skies in a hot air balloon.
And at the end of a long day site seeing, relax in what is quite possibly one of the most tranquil places on earth. Known as the land of 1000 chateaux and the birth place of modern man, the Dordogne is a truly magical place. We hope to see you soon.
